The Program Management Professional (PgMP) is PMI's senior credential for professionals who manage multiple related projects as one programme to deliver strategic benefits. It suits senior program managers, PMO heads and delivery directors with substantial programme experience.

What is the PgMP certification and who is it for?

Is the PgMP worth it for program leaders in Vietnam?

Yes. With foreign investment rising and mega-infrastructure and transformation programmes expanding, Vietnam needs credentialed programme leaders. Head of PMO roles average around 712 million VND a year, and PgMP holders are rare, which helps you stand out for senior roles.

Is PMP required before I can pursue PgMP?

No. An active PMP is not mandatory. However, it does satisfy the project management experience requirement across all three eligibility sets, so PMP holders only need to document their programme management experience.

Is the PgMP recognised internationally?

Yes. As a PMI credential it carries global recognition across more than 200 countries. Fewer than 3,000 practitioners worldwide hold the PgMP, making it a distinctive differentiator for senior programme roles in Vietnam and abroad.

How long is the PgMP valid and how do I renew it?

The PgMP is valid for three years. You maintain it by earning 60 PDUs across PMI's Talent Triangle within each three-year cycle, with a minimum of 8 PDUs in each area, reported through PMI's CCR system.

How much does PgMP training cost in Vietnam?

Training fees vary by format and are available on request. Instructor-led and corporate options are quoted separately from the PMI exam fee. Speak with a learning advisor for a tailored quote for individuals or teams.

What is included in the PgMP course fee?

The fee typically covers PMI-aligned courseware, practice questions, mock exams, application and panel-review support, learner support and a course completion certificate with contact hours. The PMI exam fee is billed separately.

How much is the PgMP exam fee?

For reference, the PMI exam fee is around USD 800 for members and USD 1,000 for non-members; figures vary and should be confirmed on pmi.org. PMI membership, about USD 139 a year, lowers the exam cost and gives access to the Standard for Program Management.

Do you offer group or corporate discounts?

What payment options are available?

What is the format of the PgMP exam?

The PgMP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the PgMP Examination Content Outline and the Standard for Program Management, Fourth Edition. It is delivered via Pearson VUE OnVUE online proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

How many questions are on the PgMP exam and how long is it?

The exam has 170 questions and a four-hour allotted time. Results are reported as pass or fail with domain-level feedback, using a psychometrically determined passing score rather than a fixed percentage.

What are the PgMP exam domains and their weights?

Five performance domains: Strategic Program Management (11%), Program Life Cycle Management (44%), Benefits Management (11%), Stakeholder Engagement (16%) and Governance (18%). The largest focus is the programme life cycle.

What is the PgMP panel review?

The panel review is a multi-rater assessment unique to the PgMP. A panel of program management practitioners evaluates your documented experience. Both the panel review and the written exam must be passed to earn the credential.

How many attempts do I get and can I retake the exam?

You may take up to three attempts within the one-year eligibility period from application approval. Re-examination fees apply to the second and third attempts; confirm current amounts on pmi.org.

Course Content

What topics does the PgMP training cover?

The training covers the five performance domains: Strategic Program Management, Program Life Cycle Management, Benefits Management, Stakeholder Engagement and Governance, plus guidance on the application, panel review and exam strategy.

Which standard and edition is the course based on?

The course is aligned to PMI's Standard for Program Management, Fourth Edition, and the current PgMP Examination Content Outline, so your preparation matches what the exam actually tests.

Do I need prior experience to benefit from the training?

PgMP is a senior credential, so candidates already have substantial programme experience. The training consolidates that experience against the ECO and the panel-review requirements rather than teaching programme management from scratch.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions and full-length mock exams aligned to the 170-question, four-hour format, plus quizzes to help you identify weak areas and build readiness.

How many contact hours does the training provide?

The instructor-led programme provides 24 contact hours of training. PgMP has no mandatory contact-hour prerequisite, so these hours serve as focused exam preparation and knowledge consolidation.

Enrollment

What are the eligibility requirements for the PgMP?

PMI offers three sets. Set A: secondary diploma plus 48 months of project management experience or an active PMP, and 84 months of programme experience. Sets B and C reduce the programme experience to 48 or 36 months with a degree, all within the past 15 years.

How do I enrol in the PgMP course?

What training formats are available in Vietnam?
