Is the PMI-CP recognised in Canada?

Yes. As a PMI credential, the PMI-CP carries global recognition through PMI's network in over 200 countries. It is valued by Canadian contractors, developers and public agencies that deliver large, complex projects and want globally recognised construction project management expertise.

How is the PMI-CP different from the PMP?

The PMP is a broad project management credential covering all industries and delivery approaches. The PMI-CP is a construction specialist credential, with its largest domain being Contracts Management at 50%, reflecting the centrality of contracts, claims and disputes in construction. The two are complementary, and the PMP is not required first.

How long is the PMI-CP valid and how do I renew it?

The PMI-CP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle (a minimum of 8 in each area) within the three-year cycle via PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements. The 56 PDUs from the four prerequisite modules can count toward renewal.

PMI-CP training fees vary by format, whether live online, classroom or corporate group training. Instructor-led pricing is available on request in Canadian dollars. What is the format of the PMI-CP exam?

The PMI-CP exam is closed book with multiple-choice questions, including single-answer and multiple-answer formats. It is delivered via Pearson VUE OnVUE online proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre, and is based on the current PMI-CP Examination Content Outline.

How many questions are on the exam and how long is it?

The PMI-CP exam has 120 questions and an allotted time of 230 minutes (3 hours 50 minutes). Results are reported with domain-level feedback rather than a fixed percentage, so aim for broad mastery across all four domains.

What are the PMI-CP exam domains and their weights?

There are four domains per the official ECO: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%). Contracts management is the largest, reflecting how central contracts and claims are to construction delivery.

What are the eligibility requirements for the PMI-CP?

Eligibility has two parts. First, complete all four self-paced prerequisite modules. Second, meet one of three sets: a secondary diploma with 60 months of construction PM experience, a bachelor's degree with 36 months, or a GAC-accredited degree with 24 months. All sets need 35 contact hours of PM education.

What is the passing score for the PMI-CP exam?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score that is not published as a fixed number. Results are reported as pass or fail with domain-level performance feedback, so focus on strong, even coverage across all four domains.

How many attempts do I get and can I retake the exam?

You are allowed up to three attempts within the one-year eligibility window from the date your application is approved. Re-examination fees apply to later attempts; confirm the current amounts at pmi.org before rebooking.

It is mapped to the PMI-CP ECO and the PMBOK Guide, Eighth Edition.

What are the four mandatory prerequisite modules?

Before applying, you must complete four self-paced modules in any order: Project Communications, Interface Management, Scope and Change Order Management, and Contract and Risk Management. Each is a 6 to 10 hour commitment and awards 14 PDUs, for 56 PDUs in total that can count toward renewal.

Is the courseware aligned with the latest standard?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current PMI-CP Examination Content Outline and the 8th edition PMBOK Guide, alongside construction industry-specific standards and practices, so what you study reflects what the exam tests.

Are practice questions and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions and mock exams aligned to the 120-question, 230-minute closed-book format, plus topic-wise quizzes to help you find weak areas and build exam readiness.

Does this training meet the 35-hour education requirement?
