The PMI-CP exam is closed book with multiple-choice questions in single-answer and multiple-answer formats, based on the current PMI-CP Examination Content Outline and the current edition of the PMBOK Guide. It is delivered online proctored via Pearson VUE OnVUE or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

How many questions are on the PMI-CP exam and how long is it?

The PMI-CP exam has 120 questions and an allotted time of 230 minutes, which is 3 hours and 50 minutes. Questions are distributed across the four domains: Contracts Management, Stakeholder Engagement, Strategy and Scope Management, and Project Governance.

What are the PMI-CP exam domains and their weights?

There are four domains per the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%). Contracts Management is by far the largest, reflecting the centrality of contracts in construction.

What is the passing score and how many attempts do I get?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score rather than a fixed percentage, with results reported by domain as Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement. You may take up to three attempts within the one-year eligibility period after your application is approved.

What are the prerequisites to sit the PMI-CP exam?

You must complete all four mandatory self-paced modules and meet one experience and education set: a secondary diploma with 60 months of construction PM experience, a bachelor's degree with 36 months, or a GAC-accredited degree with 24 months, each with 35 contact hours of PM education.
