What is the PfMP certification and who is it for?

Is the PfMP certification worth it for professionals in Canada?

Yes. PfMP signals senior portfolio leadership to Canadian employers in banking, technology, consulting, infrastructure and the public sector. As organisations mature their PMOs into strategy-execution functions, certified portfolio leaders command strong salary bands and stand out for Head of PMO and Portfolio Director roles.

Which standard is the PfMP based on?

The PfMP is based on the PfMP Examination Content Outline (ECO) and PMI's Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition. Training covers the five performance domains defined in the current outline.

Do I need PMP or PgMP before PfMP?

No. Neither PMP nor PgMP is a prerequisite for PfMP. Eligibility is based on general business experience and portfolio management experience, not on prior PMI certifications, though many senior portfolio managers hold one or both.

How long is the PfMP certification valid?

PfMP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle within each three-year continuing certification requirements (CCR) cycle.

How much does PfMP training cost in Canada?

PfMP training fees vary by format and provider and are quoted in Canadian dollars. Instructor-led and corporate options are priced separately, and the PMI exam fee is billed by PMI in USD under regional pricing. Request a quote for current Canadian pricing.

What is included in the PfMP course fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware, practice questions, mock exams, exam simulator access, downloadable templates, application and panel-review support, learner support and a course completion certificate with contact hours.

Is the exam fee included in the training price?

No. PMI bills the PfMP exam fee separately in USD under regional pricing, around USD 800 for members and USD 1,000 for non-members, subject to change. PMI membership can lower both the exam and renewal costs.

Do you offer group or corporate discounts for PfMP training?

What is the format of the PfMP exam?

The PfMP exam is a computer-based, multiple-choice examination based on the PfMP Examination Content Outline and the Standard for Portfolio Management 4th Edition. It uses scenario and situational questions across five performance domains.

How many questions are on the PfMP exam and how long is it?

The exam has 170 questions and a four-hour (240-minute) allotted time. It is closed book and delivered through Pearson VUE, either online proctored or at a test centre.

What are the PfMP exam domains and their weights?

Five domains: Strategic Alignment (25%), Governance (20%), Portfolio Performance (25%), Portfolio Risk Management (14%) and Communications Management (16%).

What is the passing score for the PfMP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed pass mark. The result is set through psychometric analysis, with domain feedback reported as Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement, so aim for broad mastery across all five domains.

What if I do not pass the exam the first time?

PMI allows up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period. Reexamination fees apply to the second and third attempts. Our prep, mock exams and trainer support are designed to build first-attempt readiness.
