What is the PMI-CP certification and who is it for?

Is the PMI-CP worth it for construction professionals in Calgary?

Do I need a PMP before the PMI-CP?

No. PMP is not a prerequisite. You can pursue PMI-CP directly on your construction experience and education. The two are complementary: PMP proves general project management, while PMI-CP proves construction-specific expertise. Many construction professionals hold both.

Which standard is the PMI-CP based on?

The PMI-CP is based on the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline (ECO) and references the current PMBOK Guide alongside construction industry standards. Its four domains reflect real construction priorities, led by Contracts Management at 50 percent.

How long is the PMI-CP valid and how do I renew it?

PMI-CP is valid for three years. You renew by earning 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle within each three-year cycle, with at least 8 PDUs in each area. The 56 PDUs from the four prerequisite modules can count toward renewal.

What is included in the PMI-CP training fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware, practice questions, mock exams, guidance on the four prerequisite modules, application support and a completion certificate with contact hours. The PMI exam fee is billed separately. Request a quote for current Calgary pricing.

How much does the PMI-CP exam cost?

For reference, the PMI exam fee is around USD 520 for members and USD 670 for non-members, billed by PMI in USD and subject to change. Verify current fees at pmi.org before applying. PMI membership can reduce the exam cost and give access to resources.

Is the exam fee included in the course price?

No. PMI bills the PMI-CP exam fee separately in USD. The training fee covers your preparation, courseware and support, not the exam. Budget for the exam fee and optional PMI membership on top of training.

How many questions are on the PMI-CP exam and how long is it?

The PMI-CP exam has 120 questions and runs for 230 minutes (3 hours 50 minutes). It is closed book with multiple-choice questions in single-answer and multiple-answer formats.

What are the PMI-CP exam domains and their weights?

There are four domains: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%), per the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline.

Where can I take the PMI-CP exam in Calgary?

You can sit the exam online through Pearson VUE's OnVUE proctoring from home or office, or at a Pearson VUE test centre. Scheduling is done through PMI's portal or Pearson VUE.

What is the passing score for the PMI-CP?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score rather than a fixed percentage. Results are reported as pass or fail with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement.

What if I do not pass the first time?

You get up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period from application approval. Reexamination fees apply. Our mock exams and trainer support are built to help you pass on your first attempt.

What are the prerequisites to sit the PMI-CP exam?

You must complete four mandatory self-paced modules and meet one experience set: a secondary diploma with 60 months of construction PM experience, a bachelor's with 36 months, or a GAC-accredited degree with 24 months, plus 35 contact hours of PM education.

What topics does the PMI-CP training cover?

The training covers all four PMI-CP domains: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%), plus guidance on the prerequisite modules, the application and exam strategy.

Can a construction professional without a PM title take this?

Yes. Construction project management experience counts even without a formal PM title, as long as you have overseen scope, schedule, budget, quality and stakeholders on site. The training builds the structured knowledge the exam expects.

What learning resources are provided?

You receive PMI-aligned courseware, references to the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline and Handbook, practice questions, mock exams, templates and quizzes mapped to the four domains.

How many contact hours does the training provide?

The instructor-led programme provides 32 contact hours. PMI requires 35 contact hours of project management education to apply, so check with us on supplementary study to meet the full requirement.

Is the courseware aligned to the current PMI-CP outline?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current PMI-CP Examination Content Outline and references the current PMBOK Guide and construction industry standards and practices.
