PMI-CP is a clear marker of construction project leadership in Edmonton, where a C$43.3 billion pipeline of industrial, institutional and infrastructure work is straining the supply of experienced project talent. Market Forces Fuelling PMI-CP Demand in Edmonton

    Contract and Claims Complexity

Large ICI and infrastructure projects run on complex contracts and delivery methods, and disputes and change orders leak value fast. The PMI-CP's largest domain, Contracts Management, targets exactly this gap.

PMI-CP builds contract and claims expertise

    Labour and Skills Shortfall

Alberta's construction sector faces a 30,000-worker shortfall and a retiring workforce, so employers compete hard for project leaders who can deliver with lean teams and formal, proven skills.

PMI-CP makes certified leaders stand out

    Mega-Project Coordination

With 167 active projects worth C$43.3 billion in the region, firms need leaders who can coordinate scope, schedule and many stakeholders across concurrent, high-value construction programmes.

PMI-CP builds scope and stakeholder skills

    Capital Discipline and Cost Control

Public capital plans and private capex face tight scrutiny, pushing firms to strengthen budgets, governance and reporting so projects deliver value without overruns or rework.

PMI-CP builds governance and controls skills

    Regulatory and Stakeholder Pressure

Permits, community impacts and regulatory sign-offs can stall Edmonton projects. Structured stakeholder engagement keeps owners, authorities and communities aligned and schedules on track.

    PMI-CP builds stakeholder engagement skills

    Digital Delivery Shift

As firms adopt BIM, modular and robotic layout to offset labour gaps, project leaders must integrate new methods into scope, planning and governance without losing delivery control.

The Construction Skills You Will BuildAligned to the Four PMI-CP Exam Domains

This training maps directly to the four PMI-CP exam domains, so you build the contract, stakeholder, scope and governance skills that construction employers expect. By the end, you can manage delivery on complex projects and sit the exam with confidence.

Master Contract Types and Delivery Methods

Learn what you will do on the job: assess lump sum, cost-plus, GMP and unit-price contracts and delivery methods such as design-build, CM at risk and EPC, and advise on risk allocation. This is the heart of Contracts Management, the exam's largest domain at 50%.

    Administer Contracts and Variation Orders

Administer contract terms, payment applications and subcontracts, and process change and variation orders through a controlled process. You will manage cost and schedule impacts and keep contract baselines and change logs accurate.

Manage Claims, Disputes and Contract Risk

Identify, notify and document delay, disruption and differing-site-condition claims, allocate contractual risk and insurance, and work through dispute resolution from negotiation to arbitration. You will also close out contracts and release bonds cleanly.

    Engage Owners, Regulators and Communities

Build and run a stakeholder engagement plan across owners, designers, regulators and the public. You will manage owner approvals, community impacts and regulatory sign-offs, the focus of the Stakeholder Engagement domain at 30%.

Set Project Strategy, Scope and Schedule

Develop the project execution plan, baseline scope with a work breakdown structure, and control the schedule, budget, risk and quality. This covers the Strategy and Scope Management domain and connects delivery to owner objectives.

    Establish Project Governance and Controls

Set up governance frameworks, reporting, document control and audits, and keep the project compliant with codes, standards and ethics. This is the Project Governance domain that ties oversight and accountability together across the build.

Who should take PMI-CP training in Edmonton?

It is ideal for Edmonton professionals working on industrial, institutional and infrastructure projects who want a construction-specific credential.

Is the PMI-CP worth it for construction professionals in Edmonton?

Is PMP required before taking the PMI-CP?

    Pricing

What is included in the PMI-CP training fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware, coverage of all four exam domains, practice questions and mock exams, guidance on the prerequisite modules, exam application support and learner support. Request a quote for the full inclusions in your chosen format.

How much does PMI-CP training cost in Edmonton?

Training fees vary by format and schedule, so pricing is available on request. The PMI exam fee is billed separately by PMI in USD and is not part of the training fee. Contact us for a tailored quote and current batch pricing.

Is the exam fee included in the training price?

No. PMI bills the PMI-CP exam fee separately in USD (for reference, around USD 520 for members and USD 670 for non-members; verify current fees on pmi.org). PMI membership can reduce the exam cost and gives access to PMI resources.

    Exam

What is the format of the PMI-CP exam?

The PMI-CP exam is closed book with multiple-choice questions in single-answer and multiple-answer formats. It is based on the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline and delivered via Pearson VUE OnVUE online proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

How many questions are on the PMI-CP exam and how long is it?

The PMI-CP exam has 120 questions and an allotted time of 230 minutes (3 hours 50 minutes). It is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination aligned to the current ECO.

What are the PMI-CP exam domains and their weights?

There are four domains: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%). Contracts Management is the largest, reflecting how central contracts are to construction delivery.

What is the passing score for the PMI-CP exam?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score, so no fixed percentage is published. Results are reported as pass or fail with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement. Focus on broad mastery across all four domains.

What happens if I do not pass the exam the first time?

PMI allows up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period from application approval. Re-examination fees apply to the second and third attempts. Our training and practice resources are designed to help you prepare for a strong first attempt.

    Course Content

What topics does the PMI-CP training cover?

The training covers all four exam domains: Contracts Management (contract types, administration, variations, claims and closeout), Stakeholder Engagement, Strategy and Scope Management (scope, schedule, budget, risk and quality) and Project Governance, plus exam strategy.

What are the four mandatory prerequisite modules for the PMI-CP?

Before applying, you complete four self-paced PMI modules in any order: Project Communications, Interface Management, Scope and Change Order Management, and Contract and Risk Management. Each is a 6 to 10 hour commitment and awards 14 PDUs, 56 PDUs in total.

Does this training meet the 35 contact hours requirement?

The instructor-led programme provides 32 contact hours, which is close to but below the 35 contact hours of project management education PMI requires. Check with our team on whether supplementary self-study or pre-reading can be credited toward the 35-hour requirement.

What learning resources and materials are provided?

You receive PMI-aligned courseware, references to the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline and Handbook, practice questions mapped to the 120-question format, mock exams and guidance on documenting your experience for the application.

Do I need construction experience to take the PMI-CP?

Anyone can enrol in the training, but to sit the exam PMI requires construction project management experience within the past 10 years, plus completion of the four prerequisite modules and 35 contact hours of project management education. Our team can review your eligibility.

    Enrollment

Who is eligible to sit the PMI-CP exam?

You must complete all four prerequisite modules and meet one experience set: for example, a bachelor's degree plus 36 months of construction project management experience within the past 10 years and 35 contact hours of PM education. A high school diploma path requires 60 months.
