Why PMI-CP Is Worth It for Construction ProfessionalsThe Career Value of a Construction Credential

    For Individuals

    For Individuals

PMI-CP training helps construction professionals build sector-specific delivery capability and prepare for the PMI-CP exam. The credential suits project managers, site managers, project engineers moving into PM, and owner's representatives who want their construction expertise formally recognised. Whether you are running building, civil or infrastructure works, or representing an owner on a concession project, this training develops the contracts, stakeholder and governance skills that senior construction roles demand.

If you want to lead construction delivery with an internationally respected credential, PMI-CP is a clear next step. You gain contract administration depth, exam-focused practice and application guidance, and a structured path that Costa Rican contractors, developers and consultancies value.

    • Validates construction-specific project management expertise beyond a general PM credential
    • Positions you for senior roles on Costa Rica's highway, rail and free-zone projects
    • Builds deep contract administration skill, the largest exam domain at 50%
    • Strengthens stakeholder engagement across owners, regulators and communities
    • Sharpens claims, variation and construction risk management capability
    • Provides a globally recognised, transferable PMI credential
    • Complements a PMP by proving sector-specific construction competence
    • Connects your site delivery experience to governance and strategic outcomes
    For Organizations

    For Organizations

PMI-CP group training helps construction organisations raise delivery capability by equipping project teams with structured contract, stakeholder and governance skills. Training can be delivered for site teams, project controls functions or leadership groups. For contractors, developers and owner's engineers managing concession, free-zone and building projects, this training provides a scalable, flexible way to standardise construction project management.

If your teams deliver complex projects but contract disputes and value leakage keep recurring, PMI-CP training creates a shared construction delivery language. Teams gain a consistent approach to contracts, claims, stakeholders and governance that protects programme, budget and quality.

    • Builds consistent construction delivery standards across project teams
    • Reduces contract, claims and variation exposure on complex projects
    • Improves stakeholder and regulator engagement on public and concession works

PMI-CP Career Paths in Costa RicaRoles, Demand and Pay Outlook

PMI-CP is emerging as a clear marker of construction project leadership in Costa Rica, where a US$4.8 billion construction market, concession megaprojects and a booming free-zone sector are reshaping how capital projects are delivered. As highways, an electric passenger train and medtech plants move through the pipeline, employers increasingly want project leaders who can govern contracts, stakeholders and risk to international standards. Demand runs from project engineer to construction and programme manager, and here is what the market is telling us now.

Market Forces Driving Construction Demand in Costa Rica

    Concession Megaprojects Demand Contract Rigour

The San Ramon highway, Cartago corridor and electric train move through BOT concessions worth billions, and contract-heavy delivery is exactly what PMI-CP's 50% contracts domain is built to govern.

PMI-CP builds contract and claims management skill

    Free-Zone and Medtech Build-Out

Coyol and Evolution free zones keep expanding, and roughly 5,000 new medtech jobs a year drive fast-track industrial construction that needs tight scope, schedule and stakeholder control.

PMI-CP builds scope and stakeholder skills

    Public Works Value Leakage

The PROERI reconstruction programme and slow public execution create real demand for governance-literate leaders who can connect approved budgets to delivery and cut value leakage.

PMI-CP builds governance and reporting skills

    Scarcity of Credentialed Project Managers

Costa Rica has deep engineering talent but few globally credentialed construction project managers, so a PMI-CP holder stands out to contractors, developers and owner's engineers.

PMI-CP makes certified construction PMs stand out

    Claims and Dispute Exposure

Concession and public contracts carry delay, variation and differing-site-condition disputes, so certified professionals who can manage notices, claims and resolution protect programme and margin.

PMI-CP builds risk and dispute management skill

    Tourism and Real-Estate Construction Surge

Record tourism and rising commercial and residential demand fuel hospitality and mixed-use builds, where structured construction project management keeps quality, cost and schedule on track.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

The PMI Construction Professional (PMI-CP) is PMI's specialist credential for construction project management, tested across four domains: contracts management (50%), stakeholder engagement (30%), strategy and scope management (15%) and project governance (5%). It suits construction project managers, site managers, owner's representatives and consultants in Costa Rica.

    General

What is the PMI-CP certification and who is it for?

The PMI Construction Professional (PMI-CP) is PMI's specialist credential for construction project management, tested across four domains: contracts management (50%), stakeholder engagement (30%), strategy and scope management (15%) and project governance (5%). It suits construction project managers, site managers, owner's representatives and consultants in Costa Rica.

Is the PMI-CP recognised in Costa Rica?

Yes. PMI-CP is a globally recognised PMI credential valued by contractors, developers, free-zone and medtech builders, and owner's engineers across Costa Rica and internationally, where clients increasingly expect construction leaders to hold a recognised project management credential.

Do I need a PMP before taking PMI-CP?

No. PMP is not a prerequisite for PMI-CP. You can apply based on your construction experience and education. The two credentials are complementary, with PMP validating broad project management and PMI-CP proving construction-specific expertise.

How is PMI-CP different from the PMP?

PMP is a broad project management credential covering all industries and delivery approaches. PMI-CP focuses exclusively on construction, with its largest domain being contracts management at 50%, reflecting the central role of contract administration, claims and disputes in construction delivery.

How long is the PMI-CP certification valid?

PMI-CP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle, with at least 8 PDUs in each area, reported through PMI's continuing certification requirements system.

    Pricing

What is included in the PMI-CP course fee and how do I pay?

The training fee typically covers PMI-aligned courseware, scenario practice, mock exams, guidance on the four mandatory modules, application support and learner support. The PMI exam fee is billed separately by PMI. Speak with a learning advisor for a tailored quote.

How much does the PMI-CP exam cost?

For reference only, the PMI-CP exam is around USD 520 for PMI members and USD 670 for non-members, and prices vary by region. PMI membership can reduce the exam fee. Confirm the current figures on pmi.org before applying.

Is the exam fee part of the training price?

No. PMI bills the PMI-CP exam fee separately in USD under regional pricing, so it is not included in the training fee. This keeps training and exam costs transparent and lets you choose when to apply.

Do you offer group or corporate pricing?

Yes. We offer corporate training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for construction project teams, site groups and leadership. Ask about corporate or group pricing for a tailored quote.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, and offer instalment options on selected plans. Talk to a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Exam

What if I do not pass the PMI-CP exam first time?

PMI allows up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period from application approval. Re-examination fees apply to later attempts. Our mock exams and scenario practice are designed to help you prepare thoroughly for the first sitting.

How many questions are on the PMI-CP exam and how long is it?

The PMI-CP exam has 120 questions and a total time of 230 minutes, which is 3 hours and 50 minutes. It is closed book with multiple-choice questions in single-answer and multiple-answer formats.

What are the PMI-CP exam domains and weights?

The exam covers four domains from the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline: contracts management (50%), stakeholder engagement (30%), strategy and scope management (15%) and project governance (5%).

What is the passing score for the PMI-CP exam?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score rather than a fixed percentage. Results are reported as pass or fail with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement, so aim for broad mastery across all four domains.

Where can I sit the PMI-CP exam?

You can take the exam online through Pearson VUE's OnVUE proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre. Scheduling is done through PMI's portal or the Pearson VUE website within your eligibility period.

What are the prerequisites to apply for PMI-CP?

You must complete all four mandatory self-paced PMI course modules, then meet one of three experience sets: a secondary diploma with 60 months, a bachelor's degree with 36 months, or a GAC-accredited degree with 24 months of construction project management experience, plus 35 contact hours of PM education.

    Course Content

Can I take this training without a formal project manager title?

Yes. PMI defines construction project management experience broadly, covering scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety and stakeholder work, not just a PM title. The training covers all four ECO domains, so professionals moving into project management can follow it and build readiness.

What topics does the PMI-CP training cover?

The programme covers the four ECO domains: contracts management, stakeholder engagement, strategy and scope management, and project governance, plus guidance on the four mandatory PMI modules, the application and exam strategy for the 120-question exam.

Which standard is the course aligned to?

The course is aligned to the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline and the current PMBOK Guide, together with construction industry standards and practices referenced by PMI, so your preparation matches what the exam tests.

Are practice questions and mock exams included?

Yes. The training includes scenario-based practice questions and full-length mock exams mapped to the four domains and the closed-book, 120-question format, helping you find weak areas and build exam readiness.

Does this training meet the 35 contact hours requirement?

The instructor-led programme provides 32 contact hours, which is close to but below the 35 contact hours of project management education PMI requires. Check with our team whether supplementary self-study or pre-reading is credited toward the 35-hour requirement.

    Enrollment

How soon can I start and how do I enrol?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website, choose your format, complete payment, and receive access to schedules, courseware and resources. See upcoming batches or talk to a learning advisor to pick a start date that fits your project schedule.

    What training formats are available?

We offer live virtual (online) instructor-led training, classroom sessions, self-paced e-learning, and customised corporate group training, so you can choose the format that best fits your schedule and learning preference.

Do I have to finish the four PMI modules before applying?

Yes. PMI requires all four self-paced course modules, covering project communications, interface management, scope and change order management, and contract and risk management, before you apply. Each awards 14 PDUs, for 56 PDUs in total, and can be completed in any order.

Can I reschedule or transfer my batch?

Yes. Flexi options let you reschedule or transfer to another batch, and selected plans allow you to attend the training twice. Contact support to arrange the change that suits you.

What is the refund or cancellation policy?

Refunds and cancellations are handled per our published policy, and selected plans include a money-back option. Reach out to our team for the details that apply to your enrolment.
