What if I do not pass the PfMP exam the first time?

What is the format of the PfMP exam?

The PfMP exam is a closed-book, computer-based, multiple-choice examination based on the PfMP Examination Content Outline and the Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition. It uses scenario and situational questions across five performance domains.

How many questions are on the PfMP exam and how long is it?

The exam has 170 questions and a four-hour (240-minute) allotted time. PMI does not publish a fixed pass mark; results are set through psychometric analysis and reported with domain-level performance feedback.

What are the PfMP exam domains and their weights?

There are five domains: Strategic Alignment (25%), Governance (20%), Portfolio Performance (25%), Portfolio Risk Management (14%) and Communications Management (16%). Together they define what the exam and the panel review assess.

What is the PfMP panel review?

The panel review is a multi-rater assessment unique to PfMP. A panel of portfolio management practitioners evaluates your documented portfolio experience and competency. It is mandatory in addition to the written exam, and both must be passed to earn the credential.

Do I need prior experience to take PfMP training?

Anyone can attend the training, and it is built for senior professionals. To sit the PfMP exam, PMI requires substantial experience: 120 months of business experience plus 36 to 84 months of portfolio management experience depending on your education, all within the past 15 years.

What topics are covered in the PfMP training?

The training covers the five performance domains: Strategic Alignment (25%), Governance (20%), Portfolio Performance (25%), Portfolio Risk Management (14%) and Communications Management (16%), plus the application, panel review and exam strategy.

Is the courseware aligned with the current PfMP standard?
