    PMI-CP builds programme-scale delivery skills

    Contract and Claims Complexity

Delay, variation and dispute claims are endemic on large Hong Kong builds. With Contracts Management at 50% of the exam, PMI-CP is built to close this exact capability gap.

PMI-CP makes certified construction PMs stand out

    Record Capital Works Pipeline

Annual capital works above HK$100 billion, with output heading toward HK$300 billion, demand disciplined governance, reporting and controls that PMI-CP develops directly.

    Airport and Reclamation Mega-Projects

The Three-Runway System and artificial-island reclamation involve intense regulatory, environmental and community stakeholders, exactly the engagement PMI-CP puts at 30% of the exam.

The Construction Skills You Will BuildMapped to the Four PMI-CP Exam Domains

PMI-CP training builds the contract, stakeholder, scope and governance capability that the PMI Construction Professional exam expects. By the end, you can lead construction delivery against the official ECO domains and connect site work to project outcomes.

    Master Construction Contract Management

Skills covered in PMI-CP start with contracts: evaluate delivery methods and contract types, administer terms and payments, and manage subcontracts across the supply chain. This is the largest exam domain at 50%, and the core of construction delivery.

    Handle Variations, Claims and Disputes

Identify, document and process change orders and variations, and manage delay, disruption and differing-site-condition claims through negotiation, mediation, adjudication and arbitration, in line with contract notice requirements.

    Engage Stakeholders Across the Project

Identify, analyse and engage every stakeholder, from owner and designer to subcontractors and end users. Plan and execute communications so alignment holds across the construction lifecycle, the focus of a 30% exam domain.

Manage Owner, Community and Regulatory Relationships

Manage client expectations and approvals, handle community impacts such as noise, dust and access, and secure timely regulatory sign-offs from building, planning and environmental authorities to protect the programme.

Define Strategy, Scope and Change Control

Develop the project execution plan, baseline scope and the work breakdown structure, and run disciplined change management alongside schedule, budget, risk and quality control across the build.

Set up Project Governance and Reporting

Establish governance structures, decision rights and escalation paths, run performance reviews and reporting, control project documentation, and maintain regulatory and ethical compliance throughout delivery.

    Exam

What is the format of the PMI-CP exam?

The PMI-CP exam is closed book with 120 multiple-choice questions in 230 minutes (3 hours 50 minutes). It is delivered via Pearson VUE OnVUE online proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre, and is aligned to the PMI-CP ECO and the PMBOK Guide, Eighth Edition.

What are the PMI-CP exam domains and weights?

There are four domains: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%). Contracts Management is the largest, reflecting how central contract administration and disputes are to construction delivery.

What are the prerequisites for the PMI-CP exam?

You must complete all four self-paced modules (Project Communications, Interface Management, Scope and Change Order Management, and Contract and Risk Management), then meet one experience set: 60 months construction PM experience with a secondary diploma, 36 months with a bachelor's degree, or 24 months with a GAC-accredited degree, plus 35 contact hours of PM education.

What is the passing score for the PMI-CP exam?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score that is not published as a fixed number. Results are reported as pass or fail with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement, so aim for broad mastery across all four domains.

What if I do not pass the exam on the first attempt?

PMI permits up to three attempts within the one-year eligibility window from application approval. Our practice questions, mock exams and trainer guidance are designed to build your readiness across the four domains before you sit the exam. Re-examination fees apply per attempt.

    Course Content

What will I learn in the PMI-CP training?

You learn to manage construction contracts and delivery methods, handle variations, claims and disputes, engage owners, communities and regulators, control scope, schedule, budget and risk, and set up project governance and reporting, all mapped to the four official PMI-CP exam domains.

Which standard and edition is the training based on?

The training is aligned to the official PMI-CP Examination Content Outline and the PMBOK Guide, Eighth Edition, along with construction industry standards and practices referenced by PMI. This keeps your preparation current with what the exam actually tests.

Do I need construction experience for the course?

Anyone can attend the training, and it suits professionals from site engineers to experienced project managers. To sit the exam, PMI requires construction project management experience under one of its three eligibility sets, which we help you document during the course.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions and full-length mock exams modelled on the 120-question, 230-minute format, plus topic-wise quizzes to help you identify weak areas and build exam readiness across all four domains.

How long is the PMI-CP certification valid?

How soon can I start and how do I enrol?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website, choose your preferred format and complete payment to receive access to schedules, courseware and resources. New batches run regularly. Talk to a learning advisor to find the next available Hong Kong cohort.
