What Is the CAPM Credential?UntitledYour Entry Route into Project Management

The Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) is the Project Management Institute's entry-level credential for professionals who want to prove they understand how projects are planned, run and delivered. It is the quickest recognised way into the profession, because it asks for no project management work experience at all. A secondary school qualification and 23 hours of project management education are enough to sit the exam. Our 24-hour instructor-led programme in Hong Kong covers the four domains of the CAPM Examination Content Outline effective 2023: Project Management Fundamentals and Core Concepts, Predictive Plan-Based Methodologies, Agile Frameworks and Methodologies, and Business Analysis Frameworks. Teaching is grounded in the PMBOK Guide Eighth Edition and the PMI Agile Practice Guide, so you learn waterfall, agile and hybrid delivery the way PMI itself describes it. Those 24 contact hours also clear the 23-hour education prerequisite, so your preparation and your eligibility are handled together. With Hong Kong employers in banking, construction, technology and logistics competing hard for delivery talent, this is a sensible moment to begin your journey with Invensis Learning.

How the CAPM Accelerates an Early Project CareerValue for Learners and Employers

    For Individuals

    For Individuals

Certified CAPM training turns a first interest in project work into a credential a hiring manager can trust. You leave able to plan scope, schedule and cost, run a Scrum board, and question requirements before they cause rework. Whether you are a final-year student, a graduate applying for your first delivery role, a career changer coming from finance, engineering or operations, or a team member who supports projects without leading them, the training meets you where you are.

If you want a recognised way to prove project knowledge without waiting years to accumulate experience, this credential is the honest shortcut. You gain the fundamentals, the four exam domains, and a clear path to your first project role in Hong Kong.

    • Enter project management with a PMI credential even if you have never led a project
    • Earn recognition from employers across Hong Kong and PMI's network in more than 200 countries
    • Clear the 23 hours of project management education PMI requires in a single 24-hour programme
    • Get shortlisted for project coordinator, PMO analyst and delivery support roles
    • Speak the language of predictive, agile and hybrid delivery with equal confidence
    • Build a credible first step toward PMP once you have the experience PMI expects
    • Learn the business analysis frameworks that carry 27 percent of the exam
    • Practise against the real 150-question, 3-hour format before exam day
    For Organizations

    For Organizations

Group training gives an organisation a common project language at the level where most delivery problems begin. Coordinators, analysts and graduate hires learn the same terminology, the same planning logic, and the same way of reporting performance. For Hong Kong employers running transformation programmes, infrastructure works or product delivery, this is a practical way to raise the floor across a whole intake rather than one person at a time.

If your delivery teams are strong on effort but inconsistent on method, group training creates the shared baseline. Teams gain a standardised approach to scope, schedule, stakeholders and reporting that senior leaders can actually rely on.

    • Give junior staff a shared delivery vocabulary before they join live projects
    • Reduce rework caused by weak requirements and unclear scope baselines
    • Standardise how teams report status, variance and progress to sponsors
    • Build a certified feeder pool for future project manager and PMO roles
    • Prepare graduate hires for predictive, agile and hybrid ways of working
    • Improve handover quality between business, delivery and analysis functions
    • Train teams in Hong Kong through live virtual or onsite group sessions
    • Strengthen retention by giving early-career staff a visible growth path

CAPM Career Paths in Hong KongWhere Early-Career Delivery Talent Is Hired

Hong Kong is short of project delivery talent, and the shortage now reaches down to the entry level. Banks, fintech firms, contractors, technology teams, logistics operators and public bodies are all hiring project coordinators, PMO analysts, assistant project managers and business analysts to support multi-year change and the Northern Metropolis build-out. Industry projections put local demand for project professionals at 109,000 to 116,000 by 2035, with a gap of up to 42,000 people. A PMI credential is how a newcomer gets shortlisted.

What Is Driving Project Talent Demand in Hong Kong

    An Infrastructure Pipeline Outpacing Talent

The Northern Metropolis and Lantau programmes are running together, and the Construction Industry Council counted a shortfall of 8,400 skilled construction professionals. Delivery support is scarce at every level.

Build predictive planning and control skills

    A Widening Project Talent Gap

Local demand for project professionals is projected to reach 109,000 to 116,000 by 2035, leaving a gap of up to 42,000. Employers are recruiting earlier in the career ladder to close it.

A recognised credential from day one

    Transformation Pressure in Banking

Banks, insurers and fintech firms are running multi-year change programmes that need disciplined delivery. Teams want joiners who already understand scope control, variance and status reporting.

    Learn governance, baselines and reporting

Agile and Waterfall Running Side by Side

Hong Kong teams rarely run one method alone. New joiners are expected to move between Scrum boards and Gantt charts, which is exactly the split the exam is built to test.

Cover predictive, agile and hybrid delivery

    Unclear Requirements Causing Rework

Weakly elicited requirements remain a leading cause of wasted delivery effort. Business analysis frameworks carry 27 percent of the exam, so certified associates arrive able to question scope properly.

    Master business analysis frameworks

    Heavy Screening on Entry-Level Hiring

With graduate applications high, Hong Kong recruiters lean on recognised credentials to shortlist. A PMI certification separates a prepared candidate from an untested CV.

Hong Kong needs project people faster than it can grow them. A PMI credential is the clearest way for a new practitioner to show a hiring manager that the fundamentals are already there. Start your preparation today.

    Your Hong Kong Career Transformation

From Project Team Member to Certified Practitioner

    The Difference the Credential Makes

Hong Kong is hiring project talent faster than it can grow it, and employers use recognised credentials to tell prepared candidates apart from hopeful ones. Here is what changes once the credential is yours.

    Today

Support-level pay with little leverage to negotiate a first delivery role

    After CAPM

    Today

Passed over for openings that list a PMI credential as preferred

    After CAPM

Eligible for entry-level delivery roles across banking, construction, technology and logistics

    Today

Willing and capable, but without the shared method employers expect

    After CAPM

Able to plan scope and schedule, run a sprint board, and report performance with EVM

    Before

Project knowledge picked up on the job, with nothing formal to show for it

    Now you have

A PMI credential that hiring managers in Hong Kong and abroad already recognise

    Before

Applications screened out because you have never held a project title

    Now you have

A clear route into project coordinator, PMO analyst and delivery roles

    Before

Comfortable with one way of working, unsure the moment the method changes

    Now you have

Fluency in predictive, agile and hybrid delivery, plus business analysis basics

    Before

No credential path, and PMP still years out of reach

    Now you have

A first PMI credential and a visible step toward PMP as your experience builds

"The gap between wanting a project career and starting one is usually a credential, and Hong Kong employers already know which one to look for."

The Project Skills You Will Build in 24 HoursMapped to the Four Exam Domains

The programme takes you from project vocabulary to working capability across the four domains PMI tests, taught against the PMBOK Guide 8th Edition and the Agile Practice Guide. By the end you can plan a predictive project, contribute on an agile team, and analyse requirements before they become problems.

    Project Fundamentals and Core Concepts

Skills covered in the CAPM begin here. You will tell projects apart from programmes and portfolios, choose between predictive, iterative and adaptive life cycles, read a project charter, and apply the PMI project management principles that anchor the largest domain of the exam.

    Predictive Plan-Based Delivery

Work through the five process groups and build the plan-based artefacts employers expect: a work breakdown structure, a network diagram and critical path, cost estimates and a budget, a risk register, and a change control route that keeps scope honest.

    Agile Frameworks and Hybrid Working

Apply the Agile Manifesto in practice through Scrum roles, events and artefacts, Kanban flow and WIP limits, Lean thinking and XP practices. You will also learn when a hybrid of agile and predictive delivery is the right call, as most Hong Kong teams run.

    Business Analysis Frameworks

Elicit, document and trace requirements, run needs assessments with gap and root cause analysis, model processes and use cases, and validate solutions against acceptance criteria. This domain carries 27 percent of the exam and prevents costly rework.

    Performance Reporting with EVM

Read project health the way sponsors do. You will apply planned value, earned value and actual cost, calculate schedule and cost variance, interpret SPI and CPI, and turn the numbers into a status report a steering group can act on.

    Exam Readiness and PMI Application

Prepare for the real thing: 150 multiple-choice questions in 3 hours, sat at a Pearson VUE centre or online through OnVUE. You will practise against the 2023 exam content outline and get guidance on documenting your 23 hours of education for PMI.

    What Our Learners Say

    Untitled

Passed First Time and Changed Roles

"I came from a banking operations role with no project title on my CV. The four domains were taught clearly, and the business analysis sessions were the ones that finally made requirements click. I passed on my first attempt and moved into a PMO analyst role three months later."

The Credential That Got Me Interviews

"As a fresh graduate I had no way to prove I understood delivery. The trainer walked us through the WBS, critical path and earned value with real examples, then the same week showed us how a Scrum board works. Interviews got much easier after that."

    Well Paced and Genuinely Practical

"Twenty-four hours of live teaching was exactly the right depth. The practice questions were close to the real exam in style, and the guidance on documenting my education hours saved me a lot of guesswork on the PMI application."

Raised the Floor Across Our Intake

"We put our whole graduate intake through the programme. Within a quarter, status reports across the team were consistent and our senior project managers were spending far less time correcting scope and schedule basics. The onsite delivery fitted around our release calendar."

A Common Language for Our Teams

"Our delivery teams work in a hybrid of agile and plan-based methods, and new joiners used to struggle with that. Training them against the PMI content outline gave everyone the same vocabulary. Coordination between the analysis and delivery functions improved noticeably."

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

Yes, if you are early in your career. Hong Kong employers in banking, construction and logistics hire project coordinators and PMO analysts, averaging about HK$295,000 and HK$407,000 a year, and the city faces a shortfall of up to 42,000 project professionals by 2035. A PMI credential is what gets an inexperienced candidate shortlisted.

    General

Is the CAPM worth it for a project career in Hong Kong?

Yes, if you are early in your career. Hong Kong employers in banking, construction and logistics hire project coordinators and PMO analysts, averaging about HK$295,000 and HK$407,000 a year, and the city faces a shortfall of up to 42,000 project professionals by 2035. A PMI credential is what gets an inexperienced candidate shortlisted.

What is the CAPM certification and who is it for?

The Certified Associate in Project Management is PMI's entry-level credential, proving you understand the fundamental knowledge, terminology and processes of project management. It is built for students, recent graduates, career changers and project team members who support delivery but do not yet lead it.

Do I need project management experience to get certified?

No. The CAPM is the only PMI practitioner credential that requires no project management work experience. You need a secondary degree, such as a school diploma or global equivalent, plus 23 hours of project management education, which this 24-hour programme provides in full.

How is the CAPM different from the PMP?

The CAPM is the entry credential and needs only 23 contact hours of education with no work experience. The PMP is the advanced credential and requires 36 to 60 months of leading projects plus 35 contact hours. Most people earn the CAPM first, then move to PMP as their experience builds.

How long is the certification valid and how do I renew it?

It is valid for 3 years. Renewal means retaking and passing the exam within that cycle. Unlike PMP and other PMI credentials, the CAPM is not renewed by earning PDUs, so there is no continuing certification requirements cycle to track.

Is the credential recognised by Hong Kong employers?

Yes. As a PMI credential it carries recognition through PMI's network in more than 200 countries, and Hong Kong recruiters across banking, infrastructure, technology and the public sector treat it as a credible signal of project knowledge for early-career hires.

    Pricing

What is included in the CAPM course fee?

The fee covers 24 hours of live instructor-led training that satisfies PMI's 23-hour education prerequisite, courseware aligned to the 2023 exam content outline, industry case studies, practice questions matched to the exam format, and learner support before and after the sessions. Request a quote for the current inclusions.

How much does CAPM training cost in Hong Kong?

Pricing depends on the format you choose, whether live virtual, onsite classroom or one-to-one, and is available on request in HKD. Talk to a learning advisor for a quote covering your preferred schedule and any group requirements.

Is the PMI exam fee included in the training price?

No. PMI bills the exam fee separately in USD and it varies by region, with member pricing lower than non-member pricing. PMI membership also reduces the exam cost and gives free access to the PMBOK Guide 8th Edition and the Agile Practice Guide. Confirm current fees at pmi.org before you apply.

Do you offer group or corporate rates for teams?

Yes. Corporate group training comes with customised schedules, volume-based pricing and onsite or live virtual delivery for teams in Hong Kong. Ask about corporate pricing and we will put together a quote for your intake.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, with instalment options on selected plans. A learning advisor can walk you through the option that suits your budget.

    Exam

What happens if I do not pass the exam first time?

You get up to 3 attempts within the 1-year eligibility window that starts when PMI approves your application, so a first attempt is not your only chance. Re-examination fees apply to the second and third attempts. Our practice questions and mock sessions are designed to make the first sitting count.

What is the format of the CAPM exam?

The exam has 150 multiple-choice questions and you get 3 hours to complete it. It is closed book, and questions come in single-answer and multiple-answer formats, based on the CAPM Examination Content Outline effective 2023.

What does the CAPM exam cover?

Four domains: Project Management Fundamentals and Core Concepts (36 percent), Predictive Plan-Based Methodologies (17 percent), Agile Frameworks and Methodologies (20 percent), and Business Analysis Frameworks (27 percent). The content is anchored in the PMBOK Guide 8th Edition and the Agile Practice Guide.

Is there a fixed passing score for the exam?

No fixed percentage is published. PMI sets the pass mark through psychometric analysis and reports your result with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement, so aim for solid coverage across all four domains rather than a target number.

Where can I sit the exam in Hong Kong?

Either at a Pearson VUE test centre or from home or the office through Pearson VUE's OnVUE online proctoring. You schedule the exam through PMI's portal or the Pearson VUE website once your application is approved.

What is the exam application process?

Create a PMI account, apply online documenting your secondary degree and your 23 hours of project management education, and wait for approval, typically within five business days for applications that are not audited. Then pay the exam fee and schedule your sitting within the 1-year eligibility window.

    Course Content

Can a complete beginner take this course?

Yes, that is exactly who it is designed for. No project management experience is required, and the programme starts from first principles: what a project is, how a life cycle works, and who does what. Live trainer support and practice exercises carry you through the harder material.

What topics does the training cover?

All four exam domains: project fundamentals and core concepts, predictive plan-based delivery including WBS, critical path and earned value, agile frameworks such as Scrum, Kanban, Lean and XP with hybrid working, and business analysis frameworks covering requirements and solution evaluation.

Which standard is the courseware based on?

The courseware follows the CAPM Examination Content Outline effective 2023, and the underlying reference standards are PMI's PMBOK Guide Eighth Edition and the Agile Practice Guide. That is the same basis PMI uses to build the exam.

Are practice questions and mock exams included?

Yes. You get practice questions written to the 150-question, 3-hour closed-book format, plus knowledge checks along the way so you can see which of the four domains needs more revision before you book your sitting.

How is the 24-hour training scheduled?

The 24 contact hours can be delivered as 8 hours a day over 3 days, 6 hours a day over 4 days, or 4 hours a day over 6 days. Choose the pattern that fits around your work, and the total training hours stay the same either way.

Will I receive a certificate of completion and contact hours?

Yes. After completing the programme you receive a course completion certificate confirming 24 contact hours of project management education, which exceeds the 23 hours PMI requires and can be submitted with your application.

    Enrollment

How soon can I start and how do I enrol?

Enrol through the Invensis Learning website, pick an upcoming batch, and you get immediate access to schedules, courseware and learning resources. See upcoming batches or speak with a learning advisor to find the start date that works for you.

What training formats are available in Hong Kong?

You can take the course online through live virtual instructor-led sessions, onsite in a classroom with your team, or as focused one-to-one training on a schedule you set. Sessions are scheduled to suit the Hong Kong time zone.

Does this training meet the 23-hour education requirement?

Yes. The programme delivers 24 contact hours of project management education, which exceeds PMI's 23-hour prerequisite and fully satisfies it. It qualifies as an instructor-led course under PMI's Authorized Training Partner programme.

Can I reschedule or move to another batch?

Yes. You can reschedule or transfer to a later batch, and selected plans include the option to attend the training a second time. Contact learner support and we will arrange it.

What is the refund or cancellation policy?

Refunds and cancellations follow our published policy, and selected plans carry a money-back option. Reach out to our team and we will confirm exactly what applies to your enrolment.
