Industry Forces Driving Programme Management Demand in Hong Kong

    Fintech and Regulatory Change Load

Hong Kong hosts over 1,100 fintech firms, and HKMA-driven change keeps banks running concurrent transformation programmes that need programme-level governance and benefits control.

PgMP builds programme governance and benefits skills

    Strategy-To-Execution Gap

Boards fund digital and transformation programmes, but weak links between strategy and the funded project mix cause value leakage that certified programme leaders are hired to close.

PgMP builds prioritisation and value-realisation skills

    Northern Metropolis Complexity

Mega-projects across 30,000 hectares demand programme-grade prioritisation, risk aggregation and cross-project coordination well beyond single-project management.

PgMP builds risk aggregation and coordination skills

    Programme Talent Scarcity

Hong Kong's pool is deep in project managers but thin in credentialed programme leaders. PgMP's advanced eligibility and panel review make holders rare and sought-after.

PgMP makes certified programme leaders stand out

    Governance and Compliance Pressure

Regulatory scrutiny in banking and insurance pushes firms to strengthen programme governance, escalation and oversight, the exact competencies the PgMP validates.

PgMP builds governance and oversight capability

    Greater Bay Area Expansion

Cross-border integration widens programme scope across jurisdictions, requiring coordinated delivery and stakeholder engagement that programme leaders are trained to manage.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

PgMP (Program Management Professional) is PMI's senior credential for professionals who manage multiple related projects as one programme to achieve strategic benefits. It is designed for senior programme managers, PMO heads, delivery directors and transformation leaders with substantial programme experience.

    General

What is the PgMP certification and who is it for?

PgMP (Program Management Professional) is PMI's senior credential for professionals who manage multiple related projects as one programme to achieve strategic benefits. It is designed for senior programme managers, PMO heads, delivery directors and transformation leaders with substantial programme experience.

Is PgMP worth it for programme managers in Hong Kong?

Yes. PgMP validates senior programme leadership and opens roles such as Programme Manager, Head of PMO and Programme Director, which command strong salary bands in Hong Kong. With fewer than 3,000 holders worldwide, it is a rare differentiator as banks, insurers and infrastructure bodies scale transformation.

Is PMP required before taking PgMP?

No. An active PMP is not mandatory. However, an active PMP satisfies the project management experience requirement across all three eligibility sets, so PMP holders only need to document their programme management experience to apply.

How long is the PgMP certification valid?

PgMP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle, with at least 8 PDUs in each area, within every three-year continuing certification requirements (CCR) cycle.

How is PgMP different from PMP?

PMP validates managing individual projects, while PgMP validates managing multiple related projects as a programme to deliver strategic benefits. PgMP is more senior, with far more rigorous prerequisites and an additional panel review step.

    Pricing

What is included in the PgMP course fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware, practice questions, mock exams, an exam simulator, downloadable templates, application and panel-review support, learner support, and a completion certificate with contact hours. Request a quote for the current inclusions.

How much does the PgMP exam cost?

PMI bills the PgMP exam separately in USD under regional pricing, around USD 800 for PMI members and USD 1,000 for non-members. Membership can lower the exam and renewal costs. Confirm current fees on the PMI store before applying.

Do you offer corporate or group pricing in Hong Kong?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for PMOs, business units and leadership teams in Hong Kong. Contact us for a tailored group quote.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, and offer instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

Is the exam fee included in the training price?

No. The PMI exam fee is billed separately by PMI in USD and is not part of the training fee. PMI members generally pay a lower exam fee than non-members.

    Exam

What if I do not pass the PgMP exam first time?

PMI allows up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period. Our training includes practice questions, mock exams and revision support to help you prepare thoroughly. Re-examination fees apply to the second and third attempts; confirm current amounts on the PMI store.

How many questions are on the PgMP exam and how long is it?

The PgMP exam has 170 questions and a four-hour (240-minute) allotted time. It is closed book and uses multiple-choice question formats delivered via Pearson VUE.

What are the PgMP exam domains and weights?

The exam covers five performance domains: Strategic Program Management (11%), Program Life Cycle Management (44%), Benefits Management (11%), Stakeholder Engagement (16%) and Governance (18%), based on the PgMP Examination Content Outline.

What is the PgMP panel review?

The panel review is a multi-rater assessment unique to PgMP. A panel of programme management practitioners evaluates your documented experience and competency. It is a mandatory step alongside the written exam, and both must be passed to earn the credential.

What is the passing score for the PgMP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed pass mark. Results are determined through psychometric analysis and reported with domain-level feedback, so aim for broad mastery across all five domains rather than a target percentage.

Where can I take the PgMP exam in Hong Kong?

You can sit the exam at a Pearson VUE test centre in Hong Kong or via Pearson VUE OnVUE online proctoring. Schedule it within your one-year eligibility period once your application is approved and the panel review is complete.

    Course Content

Do I need prior experience to take this training?

Anyone can attend the training, but PgMP is a senior credential. To sit the exam, PMI requires substantial programme management experience under one of three eligibility sets. We help you assess your eligibility and document your experience.

What topics does the PgMP training cover?

The training covers the five performance domains: Strategic Program Management, Program Life Cycle Management, Benefits Management, Stakeholder Engagement and Governance, plus application guidance, panel-review preparation and exam strategy.

Which standard and edition is the training based on?

The course is aligned to PMI's Standard for Program Management, Fourth Edition, and the current PgMP Examination Content Outline, so your preparation matches what the exam and panel review assess.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions, full-length mock exams, an exam simulator and topic-wise quizzes to help you identify weak areas and build readiness for the 170-question format.

Will I receive a certificate of completion and contact hours?

Yes. After meeting the course requirements you receive a completion certificate along with 24 contact hours of instructor-led training that support your PgMP application and preparation.

How soon can I start and how do I enrol?

What are the eligibility requirements to earn PgMP?

PMI offers three sets: with a secondary diploma, 48 months of project experience or an active PMP plus 84 months of programme experience; with a four-year degree, 48 months each; the exact months are confirmed in the PgMP Handbook. All experience must fall within the past 15 years.
