What Is Primavera P6 and Why Learn It?UntitledThe Enterprise Standard for Project Scheduling

Oracle Primavera P6 Training in Hong Kong is a practical, hands-on course that teaches you to plan, schedule, resource-load and control projects using Oracle Primavera P6, the enterprise project portfolio management software developed by Oracle Corporation. It is a skills course, not an exam: you build real proficiency through live exercises on realistic project scenarios. Primavera P6 has been the global standard for complex scheduling in construction, engineering, rail and infrastructure since the 1990s, and it is the tool most often named in Hong Kong contract specifications. The training runs at two levels: Fundamentals (2 days) covers the enterprise project structure, activity scheduling, relationships, the critical path, resource assignment, baselines and progress tracking; Advanced (3 days) adds resource and cost loading, earned value management, Claim Digger, multi-project management and custom reporting. If you plan or control projects for a Hong Kong contractor, consultancy or the MTR supply chain, these are the software skills employers ask for. Start building them with Invensis Learning.

Why P6 Skills Pay off at WorkWhat You Gain from the Training

    For Individuals

    For Individuals

This training helps planners, schedulers and project engineers build genuine Primavera P6 capability that they can use the next working day. You follow the instructor in P6 while working through construction and engineering scenarios, so the learning sticks. Whether you are new to P6 and moving off spreadsheets, or an experienced user wanting to master cost loading, earned value and multi-project control, the two-level structure meets you where you are.

In a Hong Kong market where P6 schedules are a standard contract deliverable, hands-on software proficiency is a practical advantage. You leave able to build, baseline, update and analyse a schedule that stands up to client and contract review.

    • Plan and control complex projects confidently in Oracle Primavera P6
    • Move from Excel and manual methods to contract-grade P6 schedules
    • Read and build the critical path, float and logic that clients scrutinise
    • Resource-load, cost-load and produce earned value reports from P6
    • Stand out for planner and project controls roles across Hong Kong
    • Apply skills immediately on rail, civil and building programmes
    • Progress from Fundamentals to Advanced practitioner-level capability
    • Learn on realistic scenarios you can reuse on your own projects
    For Organizations

    For Organizations

Group training equips a whole planning function or project controls team with consistent Primavera P6 skills. Delivered for PMOs, planning departments or project teams, it closes the gap between how individuals use P6 and how your contracts expect it to be used. For organisations bidding and delivering Hong Kong's large capital projects, a shared P6 standard improves schedule reliability and reporting.

If schedule quality varies across your projects, team training creates one common P6 language for logic, baselines, progress and earned value. Senior teams gain a repeatable approach to planning, control and client reporting.

    • Standardise planning and project controls practice across your teams
    • Raise schedule quality to meet client and contract requirements
    • Build in-house earned value and cost-loading capability
    • Reduce reliance on scarce, expensive external planning contractors
    • Train planning departments and PMOs together on shared scenarios
    • Deliver onsite, live virtual or blended to fit project schedules
    • Use your own project data or representative cases in the exercises
    • Strengthen delivery assurance on rail, civil and building programmes

Build critical path and coordination skills

    P6 Written into Contracts

Major Hong Kong contracts name Primavera P6 as the required scheduling tool and format, so teams that cannot produce and update P6 schedules struggle to meet their obligations.

    Build contract-ready scheduling skills

    Planning and Controls Talent Scarcity

The local pool is deep in general engineers but thin in trained planning and project controls staff, making people who are fluent in P6 scarce and sought-after.

Stand out as a skilled P6 planner

    Cost and Schedule Under Pressure

Clients want cost-loaded schedules and earned value evidence, not just bar charts. Advanced P6 skills let teams integrate cost and time and report performance credibly.

By the end, you can build, baseline, update and analyse a P6 schedule that stands up to contract review.

    Structure a Project in P6

Set up the enterprise project structure (EPS, OBS and WBS), create and configure a project, and build a full activity list using the right activity types and calendars. This is the foundation every P6 schedule is built on.

Schedule and Read the Critical Path

Link activities with Finish-to-Start, Start-to-Start, Finish-to-Finish and Start-to-Finish relationships, apply lag, run the scheduler (F9), and interpret total float, free float and the critical path that clients scrutinise.

Resource and Cost Load a Schedule

Create resources and roles, assign them to activities, and cost-load the programme using budgeted units, rates and cost accounts. Produce the S-curve that underpins project finance and progress monitoring.

    Baseline and Track Progress

Set and manage baselines, advance the data date, and update progress using Physical percent complete, actual dates and remaining duration. Analyse start and finish variance against the approved plan.

    Measure Performance with Earned Value

Generate BCWS, BCWP and ACWP from P6 and calculate SPI, CPI, SV, CV, EAC and TCPI. Produce earned value S-curves and export data for project performance and contract reporting.

    Analyse, Report and Manage Programmes

Compare schedules with Claim Digger, build custom layouts, filters and reports, manage multiple projects with cross-project links, and integrate P6 data with Excel for management dashboards.

    General

What is Oracle Primavera P6 Training and who is it for?

It is a practical, hands-on course that teaches you to plan, schedule, resource-load and control projects in Oracle Primavera P6, the enterprise scheduling software from Oracle Corporation. It suits planners, schedulers, project engineers and project controls staff in construction, rail, engineering and infrastructure.

Is Primavera P6 worth learning in Hong Kong?

Yes. P6 is named as the required scheduling tool on many Hong Kong contracts, and a record capital works pipeline keeps demand high for people who can run it. Senior planning engineers earn around HK$50,000 to HK$70,000 a month, so the skills carry a clear career payoff.

Should I take the Fundamentals or Advanced level?

Take Fundamentals (2 days) if you are new to P6 or use it occasionally and want a solid foundation in scheduling, resources and baselines. Take Advanced (3 days) if you already use P6 and want to master cost loading, earned value, Claim Digger, multi-project management and custom reporting. You can attend either independently or in sequence.

Do I need Primavera P6 experience before enrolling?

No experience is needed for Fundamentals; basic familiarity with Windows and general project concepts helps but is not required. For Advanced, you should have completed Fundamentals or have equivalent hands-on P6 experience.

Is this training recognised by Hong Kong employers?

Primavera P6 is the global standard for complex project scheduling and is widely used by Hong Kong contractors, consultancies and the MTR supply chain. Practical P6 skills are a recognised, transferable asset across construction, rail and infrastructure roles.

You receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning after completing your chosen level. It recognises the practical Primavera P6 skills you have built rather than a formal external credential.

How long is each level of the training?

Fundamentals runs for 2 days (16 hours) and Advanced for 3 days (24 hours). Both are available as full-day sessions or extended half-day formats. Confirm the current scheduling options when you enquire.

    Course Content

What will I learn in the Fundamentals level?

You learn to navigate P6 and the enterprise project structure (EPS, OBS, WBS), create a project and calendars, build an activity list, link activities with relationships and lag, run the scheduler, read the critical path and float, assign resources, set a baseline, and update and report progress.

What does the Advanced level cover?

Advanced covers advanced scheduling options, resource and cost loading with cost accounts, earned value management (SPI, CPI, EAC, TCPI), baseline management and Claim Digger, multi-project and enterprise management, and custom layouts, reports and Excel integration.

Is the training hands-on or theory-based?

It is hands-on throughout. You follow the trainer in Primavera P6 and work through realistic construction, engineering and capital project scenarios, building proficiency through practice rather than lectures.

Does the course cover earned value and project controls?

Yes, at Advanced level. You generate planned value, earned value and actual cost from P6, calculate performance indices, and produce earned value S-curves and reports used for contract and management reporting.

Which version of Primavera P6 is used?

Training is delivered on a current release of Oracle Primavera P6, covering both the P6 Professional client and P6 EPPM concepts. Confirm the specific version used for your session when you enrol.
