What standard is the PgMP based on?

The PgMP is based on the PgMP Examination Content Outline and The Standard for Program Management, Fourth Edition, published by PMI. Both define the five program management performance domains the exam assesses.

Do I need a PMP before taking the PgMP?

No. PMP is not a mandatory prerequisite. However, an active PMP satisfies the project management experience requirement across all three PgMP eligibility sets, so PMP holders only need to document their program management experience.

How long is the PgMP valid and how do I renew it?

PgMP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle within each three-year continuing certification requirements (CCR) cycle, with at least eight PDUs in each area.

The PgMP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the PgMP Examination Content Outline and The Standard for Program Management, 4th Edition. It is delivered via Pearson VUE OnVUE online proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

How many questions are on the PgMP exam and how long is it?

The exam has 170 questions and an allotted time of four hours (240 minutes). Results are reported as pass or fail with domain-level performance feedback across the five performance domains.

What are the PgMP exam domains and their weights?

Five performance domains: Strategic Program Management (11%), Program Life Cycle Management (44%), Benefits Management (11%), Stakeholder Engagement (16%) and Governance (18%).

What is the PgMP panel review?

The panel review is a multi-rater assessment unique to PgMP. A panel of program management practitioners evaluates your documented program experience. You must pass both the panel review and the written exam to earn the credential.

What is the passing score for the PgMP exam?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score that is not published as a fixed number. Results are reported as pass or fail with per-domain feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement.
