Is the PgMP worth it for professionals in Ottawa?

Yes. PgMP validates senior program leadership and positions you for roles such as Program Manager, Portfolio Manager and PMO Director, where Ottawa bands range from around C$124,000 to C$183,000 a year. With record defence spending and federal digital transformation, credentialed program leaders are in strong demand.

Is PMP required before PgMP?

No. A PMP is not a mandatory prerequisite. However, an active PMP satisfies the project management experience requirement across all three eligibility sets, so PMP holders only need to document their program management experience hours.

Which standard is the PgMP based on?

The PgMP is awarded by the Project Management Institute (PMI) and aligned to The Standard for Program Management, Fourth Edition, and the PgMP Examination Content Outline (ECO). The exam covers five performance domains of program management.

How long is the PgMP valid and how is it renewed?

Is the PMI exam fee included in the training price?

No. PMI bills the PgMP exam fee separately in USD under regional pricing (for reference, around USD 800 for members and USD 1,000 for non-members). PMI membership can lower the exam fee. Confirm current fees on the PMI store before applying.

How many questions are on the PgMP exam and how long is it?

The PgMP exam has 170 multiple-choice questions and a total allotted time of four hours (240 minutes). It is closed book and delivered via Pearson VUE, either online proctored or at a test centre.

What are the PgMP exam domains and their weights?

The exam covers five domains: Strategic Program Management (11%), Program Life Cycle Management (44%), Benefits Management (11%), Stakeholder Engagement (16%) and Governance (18%), as set out in the PgMP ECO.

What is the PgMP panel review?

The panel review is a multi-rater assessment unique to PgMP. A panel of program management practitioners evaluates your documented experience. It is a mandatory step alongside the written exam, and both must be passed to earn the credential.

What is the passing score for the PgMP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed pass mark. The result is set through psychometric analysis, with domain-level feedback such as Above Target or Target, so focus on broad mastery across all five domains rather than a single percentage.

What happens if I do not pass the exam the first time?

You can take the exam up to three times within your one-year eligibility period. Reexamination fees apply to the second and third attempts. Our training and practice resources are built to help you pass on your first sitting.

How many contact hours does the training provide?

The instructor-led program provides 24 contact hours of training. PgMP has no mandatory contact-hour prerequisite, so these hours serve as focused exam preparation and knowledge consolidation for experienced candidates.

What are the eligibility requirements to sit the PgMP exam?

PMI offers three sets. With a secondary diploma you need 48 months of project management experience or an active PMP, plus 84 months of program experience. With a four-year degree you need 48 months of project experience or a PMP, plus 48 months of program experience. All experience must fall within the last 15 years.
