What Is Value Stream Mapping and Why It MattersUntitledA Practical Lean Skill for Norwegian Operations

Value Stream Mapping Training in Norway is a practical, one-day Lean programme that teaches you to visualise the full flow of materials and information behind a product or service, expose waste, and design a leaner future state. Value Stream Mapping (VSM) is a Lean management technique rooted in the Toyota Production System (TPS) and popularised by Mike Rother and John Shook in their guide Learning to See, first published in 1998. The training suits operations managers, process and industrial engineers, Lean practitioners, supply chain professionals and healthcare improvement leads across Norway's manufacturing, energy, logistics and service sectors. You learn to draw an accurate current-state map, read the flow to find the eight Lean wastes and the bottleneck, design a future state, and turn it into a costed improvement plan. There is no exam and no formal credential. The value is the skill itself: something you can apply the very next day. Build practical, in-demand Lean capability with Invensis Learning and start seeing your operations differently.

Why Lean Flow Skills Are in Demand Across Norway

A Tight Power Market Squeezing Industry

Norway's electricity demand is growing far faster than new supply, forcing energy-intensive plants to strip waste and run leaner to protect margins and stay competitive.

VSM helps plants run leaner on scarce power

High Labour Costs and Thin Margins

With some of Europe's highest wage levels, Norwegian operations cannot compete on cost alone. Removing non-value-adding work is how sites stay profitable.

    VSM targets non-value-adding work

    The Green Transition Reshaping Operations

Offshore wind, hydrogen and carbon capture projects are scaling fast, and these new value streams need mapping to run efficiently rather than carry waste as they grow.

VSM maps new value streams from day one

An Ageing Workforce and Skills Loss

As experienced operators retire, standardised and well-mapped processes protect throughput and make improvement repeatable across shifts and teams.

    VSM standardises repeatable improvement

Complex Energy and Maritime Supply Chains

Long, multi-tier supply chains in oil, gas and shipping hide inventory and delay that only end-to-end value stream visibility can bring into the open.

VSM exposes hidden inventory and delay

    Healthcare Under Throughput Pressure

Hospitals and clinics face rising demand and long waits. VSM is widely used to map patient pathways, cut delay and improve the flow of care.

    VSM shortens patient pathways

    Pricing

How much does Value Stream Mapping training cost in Norway?

Pricing is available on request and depends on the delivery format, group size and whether you choose live virtual, classroom or corporate on-site training. Fees are quoted in Norwegian kroner. Request a quote or talk to a learning advisor for current pricing.

What is included in the course fee?

    Is this a certification course?

No. This is a practical skills training course focused on building workplace capability. There is no governing body, exam or formal certification; the value is the VSM skill itself, which you can apply immediately.

Does the training or certificate expire?

No. There is no renewal to manage and nothing expires. The VSM skills you build are immediately applicable and stay useful across roles, sectors and organisations.

    Course Content

What will I learn in this course?

What topics does the syllabus cover?

The syllabus covers Lean foundations, the standard VSM symbol set, creating and analysing the current-state map, designing the future state with the eight future-state questions, and implementation planning to sustain improvement.

    How long is the training?

The course is delivered in one day of about eight hours, and can also be split into two half-day sessions. It covers all VSM modules with concept explanations, symbol training and hands-on mapping exercises throughout.

    Are there hands-on exercises?

Yes. Hands-on practice is central to the course. You create both a current-state and a future-state map for a realistic scenario, so you leave able to facilitate a mapping workshop in your own operation.

What VSM symbols and tools are covered?

The course covers the full standard VSM symbol set: process boxes, material and information flow arrows, inventory triangles, kanban symbols, data boxes, the timeline and Kaizen bursts, plus how to read them to expose waste.
