What is lean manufacturing training?

Who should attend this lean course in Norway?

Anyone working in or responsible for a Norwegian production operation who wants to apply lean tools will benefit.

Is learning lean manufacturing worth it in 2026?

Do I need prior experience or prerequisites?

No. There are no formal prerequisites and no prior lean knowledge is required. The course introduces lean manufacturing from first principles. Some production or operations experience is helpful but not essential, so the training is open to all.

How does the Toyota Production System relate to this course?

The Toyota Production System (TPS) is the origin of lean manufacturing, developed by Taiichi Ohno and Shigeo Shingo at Toyota. This course teaches the TPS toolkit, including just-in-time, jidoka, the eight wastes, 5S, kanban and kaizen, and shows how to apply it in a modern plant.

Assessment

Is there an exam for this course?

No. This is a non-certification skills course with no examination. Learning is reinforced through hands-on lean tool exercises, waste identification activities and manufacturing case examples during the one-day programme rather than a formal test.

Do I receive a certificate after the training?

Yes. You receive a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning once you complete the programme. It records your participation in lean manufacturing training; it is not a formal certification, as this course does not lead to a credential from an awarding body.

How is my learning assessed during the course?

There is no formal assessment. Instead, you apply lean tools through practical exercises such as waste walks, 5S assessment, OEE calculation, kanban sizing and value stream mapping, so you practise each technique on realistic production scenarios throughout the day.

Is this a lean certification?

No. This is practical lean manufacturing skills training, not a certification. It builds capability in the Toyota Production System toolkit that you can apply immediately, and it pairs well with further lean study such as value stream mapping, kaizen or Lean Six Sigma programmes.

Will I be able to apply lean at work after one day?

Yes. The training is designed for immediate application. By the end you can run a waste walk, read a value stream map, launch 5S, design a kanban pull system, calculate OEE and lead kaizen improvements in your own plant.

What topics does the lean manufacturing course cover?

The course covers lean foundations and the Toyota Production System, the eight wastes (DOWNTIME), value stream mapping, 5S and visual management, pull systems, kanban and just-in-time, TPM and OEE, standard work, SMED changeover, Heijunka, poka yoke and building a lean culture.

What lean tools will I learn to use?

You will learn to use value stream mapping, 5S, kanban, OEE, TPM, standard work, SMED quick changeover and kaizen, along with waste-identification techniques. Each tool is practised through exercises so you can apply it directly to your own production lines.

What are the eight wastes of DOWNTIME?

DOWNTIME stands for Defects, Overproduction, Waiting, Non-utilised talent, Transportation, Inventory, Motion and Extra processing. The course teaches you to recognise each on the shop floor and to prioritise which to eliminate first for the biggest gain.

Are there hands-on exercises in the course?

Yes. Hands-on exercises run throughout the day, including Gemba-based waste walks, a 5S workplace assessment, an OEE calculation, kanban quantity sizing, value stream data collection and standard work observation, so you practise rather than just listen.

Is the content relevant to Norwegian manufacturing?

Yes. Lean applies across metals, defence, automotive components, subsea engineering, food and process industries that make up Norway's manufacturing base. Onsite delivery can use your own plant and value streams, making every exercise directly relevant to your operation.
