    Analyse Why Errors Happen

Apply Shingo's error categories and the cognitive, physical and process factors behind human mistakes, and separate the error from the defect it causes so you prevent problems rather than react to them.

Choose the Right Poka Yoke Type

Decide between prevention-type solutions that make errors impossible and detection-type solutions that flag them instantly, and select control or warning functions based on risk and severity.

    Apply the Three Detection Methods

Put the contact, fixed-value and motion-step methods to work with practical examples, from physical fixtures and counts to sequence checks, in both manufacturing and service processes.

    Run the Six-Step Design Process

Move from problem to working solution using the six-step Poka Yoke method, including 5 Whys and fishbone root-cause analysis, solution design, validation and measured defect reduction.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

Poka Yoke training is a one-day, practical skills course that teaches you to prevent human errors and process defects at source. It is designed for quality engineers, manufacturing and production engineers, supervisors, Lean and Six Sigma practitioners, and anyone in Norway responsible for defect prevention and quality.

    General

What is Poka Yoke training and who is it for?

Poka Yoke training is a one-day, practical skills course that teaches you to prevent human errors and process defects at source. It is designed for quality engineers, manufacturing and production engineers, supervisors, Lean and Six Sigma practitioners, and anyone in Norway responsible for defect prevention and quality.

Is Poka Yoke training worth it for professionals in Norway?

Yes. Mistake-proofing is one of the most practical Lean skills for cutting rework, scrap and warranty costs, and it is valued across Norway's manufacturing, seafood, energy and process industries. It helps you stand out for quality, production and continuous improvement roles.

    Is this a certification course?

No. Poka Yoke training is a non-certification skills course with no formal credential from an external body. You receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning, and the mistake-proofing skills you gain are immediately usable in your workplace.

Do I need prior quality management experience?

No prior experience is required. The course introduces every Poka Yoke principle from first principles, so some familiarity with defects, rework and inspection helps but is not needed. It is open to professionals from any sector.

What standards and frameworks does Poka Yoke relate to?

Poka Yoke was developed by Shigeo Shingo within the Toyota Production System and is a core technique in Lean, Six Sigma, Total Quality Management and ISO 9001:2015 quality practice. It supports risk-based thinking and defect prevention across all of these frameworks.

    Pricing

How much does Poka Yoke training cost in Norway?

Pricing depends on the delivery mode, group size and whether you book as an individual or a corporate team, so it is available on request. Contact a learning advisor for current fees and a tailored quote for your team.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee covers instructor-led delivery of all six Poka Yoke modules, hands-on error identification and design exercises, real-world case studies, learning resources, and a course completion record. There is no separate exam fee, as the course has no exam.

Do you offer group or corporate pricing?

Yes. We offer corporate and group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for teams and departments. It is a cost-effective way to upskill a whole quality or production function. Ask us about corporate pricing for your team.

Are there payment or instalment options?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, and can discuss options for corporate bookings. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the arrangement that suits you.

Is it cheaper to train a whole team together?

Usually yes. Booking a group for onsite or live online delivery is more cost-effective per person than individual seats, and it lets your team design mistake-proofing solutions for your own processes during the session. Request a group quote to compare.

    Assessment

Is there an exam for Poka Yoke training?

No. This is a non-certification course with no examination. Learning is reinforced through hands-on error identification and mistake-proofing design exercises, case studies and group discussion across the one-day programme.

Do I receive a certificate after the training?

You receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning after completing the one-day programme. No formal certification is awarded, as Poka Yoke is a technique with no external awarding body, but the practical skills apply straight away.

    How is my learning assessed?

There is no formal assessment or pass mark. Instead, you apply the techniques throughout the day in practical exercises, identifying error-prone steps and designing Poka Yoke solutions, so you leave able to use the skills on real processes.

Does the course completion record expire?

No. The completion record does not expire and there is nothing to renew. The mistake-proofing skills you learn stay relevant, as Poka Yoke is an established and stable Lean quality technique.

Will I be able to apply Poka Yoke at work afterwards?

Yes. By the end of the training you can identify error-prone steps, select the right prevention-type or detection-type solution, apply the six-step design process, and run team-based mistake-proofing workshops in your own organisation.

    Course Content

What topics does the Poka Yoke training cover?

The one-day programme covers six modules: the cost of defects and Poka Yoke foundations, understanding human error, Poka Yoke classification and types, the six-step design process, real-world case studies, and implementing mistake-proofing in your organisation.

What will I learn to do?

You will learn to spot error-prone process steps, classify errors using Shingo's categories, choose prevention or detection solutions, apply the contact, fixed-value and motion-step methods, and design, validate and sustain mistake-proofing on real processes.

    Are there hands-on exercises?

Yes. Hands-on error identification and Poka Yoke design exercises run throughout the day, so you practise the techniques on realistic process scenarios rather than only learning the theory. Corporate sessions can use your own processes.

How long is the Poka Yoke training?

The course is delivered in one day, totalling around eight hours, and can also be run as two half-days. It covers all six modules with concept explanations, case studies and practical exercises.

Does the course include real-world case studies?

Yes. You work through case studies from manufacturing, healthcare, service and IT settings, showing how mistake-proofing prevents errors in practice. These help you see how to apply Poka Yoke to challenges in your own sector.
