What is the PgMP certification and who is it for?

The PgMP (Program Management Professional) is PMI's advanced credential for professionals who manage multiple related projects as one programme aligned to strategy. It is designed for senior programme managers, PMO heads, delivery directors and transformation leaders with substantial programme experience.

Is the PgMP recognised in Japan?

Yes. The PgMP is a globally recognised PMI credential valued by employers across Japan and worldwide, including system integrators, consulting firms, banks and manufacturers that run large, strategy-critical programmes. Fewer than 3,000 practitioners hold it worldwide, making it a strong differentiator.

Is PMP required before taking the PgMP?

No. PMP certification is not a mandatory prerequisite for the PgMP. However, an active PMP satisfies the project management experience requirement across all three eligibility sets, so PMP holders only need to document their programme management experience.

How long is the PgMP certification valid?

The PgMP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle within each three-year continuing certification requirements (CCR) cycle, with a minimum of eight PDUs in each area.

What is the format of the PgMP exam?

The PgMP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the PgMP Examination Content Outline and The Standard for Program Management, Fourth Edition. It is delivered via Pearson VUE OnVUE online proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

How many questions are on the PgMP exam and how long is it?

The PgMP exam has 170 questions and an allotted time of four hours (240 minutes). Questions are distributed across the five performance domains defined in the PgMP ECO.

What are the PgMP exam domains and their weights?

Five domains: Strategic Program Management (11 percent), Program Life Cycle Management (44 percent), Benefits Management (11 percent), Stakeholder Engagement (16 percent) and Governance (18 percent), all aligned to the 4th edition of The Standard for Program Management.

What is the PgMP panel review?

The panel review is a multi-rater assessment unique to the PgMP. A panel of programme management practitioners evaluates your documented experience and competency. Both the panel review and the written exam must be passed to earn the credential.

What if I do not pass the exam the first time?

PMI permits up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period, and reexamination fees apply to later attempts. Our training includes mock exams, practice questions and trainer support to help you prepare thoroughly before you sit the exam.

What will I learn in the PgMP training?

You will learn to align programmes to strategy, manage the full programme life cycle, realise benefits, engage stakeholders and establish governance, mapped to the five PgMP performance domains, plus application and exam strategy.

Do I need prior experience to benefit from the course?

The training suits experienced practitioners, and anyone can enrol to learn. To sit the exam, PMI requires substantial project and programme management experience under one of three eligibility sets, which our advisors can help you assess.

What learning resources and materials are provided?

You receive PMI-aligned courseware, references to the PgMP Examination Content Outline and Handbook, an overview of The Standard for Program Management, Fourth Edition, templates, flashcards and chapter-wise quizzes.

How do I enrol in the PgMP course?

What are the eligibility requirements to earn the PgMP?

Anyone can enrol in the training. To earn the credential, PMI requires either a secondary diploma with 48 months of project and 84 months of programme experience, or a four-year degree with 48 months of each, within the past 15 years, plus the panel review.
