Market Forces Fuelling Demand for Programme Leaders in Japan

Legacy Modernisation and the Digital Cliff

Japanese enterprises are racing to replace ageing core systems before the digital cliff. Coordinating these multi-year, multi-project programmes needs the programme-level governance the PgMP is built to teach.

PgMP builds programme life-cycle and governance skills

    Strategy-To-Delivery Gap

Only around 30 percent of Japanese firms rate their DX as successful, against roughly 80 percent in the US and Germany. Weak links between strategy and the funded project mix are exactly what programme leaders are hired to fix.

PgMP builds strategic alignment and benefits skills

    Persistent IT Talent Shortage

Japan faces a shortfall of 600,000 to 800,000 IT professionals by 2030. Scarce senior talent must deliver more with less, raising demand for leaders who can prioritise and govern complex programmes.

PgMP makes certified leaders stand out

    From Labour-Based to Outcome-Driven Delivery

System integrators such as NTT Data, Fujitsu and NEC are shifting from labour-based contracts to outcome-driven, platform partnerships, demanding leaders who manage programmes by the benefits they deliver, not hours billed.

    PgMP builds benefits realisation capability

    Governance and J-SOX Pressure

Regulatory standards such as J-SOX require formal, auditable processes across large programmes. Boards want documented governance, escalation and controls that credentialed programme managers know how to establish.

    PgMP builds programme governance skills

    Scarcity of Certified Programme Leaders

Japan's PM pool is deep in PMP project managers but thin in credentialed programme managers. The PgMP's advanced eligibility and panel review make holders rare and highly sought-after.

PgMP is a rare, senior differentiator

The PgMP is more than a credential. It is a career multiplier for senior programme leaders. Join professionals in Japan who connect delivery to strategy and lead at the programme level. Start your journey today.

    Exam

What is the format of the PgMP exam?

The PgMP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the PgMP Examination Content Outline and The Standard for Program Management, Fourth Edition. It is delivered via Pearson VUE OnVUE online proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

How many questions are on the PgMP exam and how long is it?

The PgMP exam has 170 questions and an allotted time of four hours (240 minutes). Questions are distributed across the five performance domains defined in the PgMP ECO.

What are the PgMP exam domains and their weights?

What if I do not pass the exam the first time?
