What Is the PMI-CP Certification for Construction Professionals?UntitledPMI's Built-Environment Credential

The PMI Construction Professional (PMI-CP) is PMI's specialist certification for the construction industry, validating your ability to lead complex construction projects across contracts management, stakeholder engagement, strategy and scope management, and project governance. It is designed for experienced construction project managers who want a globally recognised credential built specifically for the built environment. Delivered by the Project Management Institute (PMI), the exam is based on the current PMI-CP Examination Content Outline (ECO) and aligned to the latest PMBOK Guide. It tests four domains, with Contracts Management weighted at 50 per cent, reflecting how central contract administration and claims are to construction delivery. Candidates also complete four mandatory self-paced modules before applying. For professionals in the Dominican Republic, where tourism resorts, ports, highways and the Santo Domingo Monorail are driving a multi-year construction pipeline, the PMI-CP signals the portfolio-grade discipline that owners and contractors increasingly expect. Start your PMI-CP journey with Invensis Learning and turn hard-won construction experience into a recognised specialist credential.

The PMI-CP has become a strong marker of construction project leadership in the Dominican Republic, valued by contractors, developers and public bodies delivering large, capital-intensive projects. Delivery Pressures Shaping Dominican Construction

    Tourism Megaproject Pipeline

The Eastern Region holds over 55,000 hotel rooms with 4,000-plus under development, demanding tight contract, stakeholder and scope control that certified construction managers provide.

PMI-CP builds stakeholder and contracts skills

    Mega-Infrastructure Complexity

Tenders such as the Santo Domingo Monorail and the RD$30.8bn Amber Highway require portfolio-grade coordination, risk aggregation and governance across multiple works packages.

PMI-CP builds governance and risk skills

    Contract and Claims Discipline Gap

Variations, change orders and disputes erode margins on Dominican projects. The PMI-CP weights Contracts Management at 50 per cent, the exact capability owners and contractors need.

    PMI-CP centres on contracts management

    Protecting FDI-Funded Value

With FDI up 97 per cent in 2025, investors expect governed delivery. Weak links between funding and scope cause value leakage that credentialed construction leaders are hired to close.

PMI-CP builds strategy and scope skills

    Construction Talent Scarcity

The Dominican market is deep in site engineers but thin in globally credentialed construction project managers, making PMI-CP holders rare and sought-after on major programmes.

PMI-CP makes certified leaders stand out

    On-Time, On-Budget Pressure

Loan-financed activity has risen to RD$168bn, and lenders and owners want predictable delivery. Certified construction managers bring the schedule, cost and quality control that protects it.

    Your Dominican Republic Career Transformation

The Gap Between Delivering and Leading

    How PMI-CP Closes It

The Dominican construction market is expanding with tourism, national infrastructure and rising FDI, and employers increasingly separate certified construction leaders from the rest. Here is which side of that line you want to be on.

    Today

Site or project engineer pay with limited leverage in the Dominican market

    After PMI-CP

Eligible for Construction Manager and Project Director bands that pay well above entry roles

    Today

Strong on site delivery, but exposed on contracts, variations and claims

    After PMI-CP

Confident managing the full contract lifecycle, the largest PMI-CP exam domain

    Today

Passed over for roles that list an international construction credential as preferred

    After PMI-CP

Shortlisted for senior roles across tourism, ports, highways and public works

    You earn your PMI-CP

    Before

Portfolio-level authority resting on job title and tenure, not a recognised construction credential

    Now you have

A PMI specialist credential built for the construction industry and recognised worldwide

    Before

A general PM background that does not signal construction contracts or claims depth

    Now you have

Proof of contract, governance and stakeholder skill mapped to the PMI-CP ECO

    Before

Recognition that fades when you move between contractors, owners or countries

    Now you have

A portable credential that travels across sectors and international projects

    Before

Limited standing on FDI-funded tourism and infrastructure tenders

    Now you have

The construction-specific discipline owners expect on major Dominican projects

"The difference between running a site and leading a construction project is increasingly a recognised credential, and the owners that matter already know it."

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

Yes. The PMI-CP is PMI's specialist construction credential, and it is increasingly valued as the Dominican Republic delivers tourism, port, highway and monorail projects. It validates contracts, stakeholder, scope and governance skill, positioning you for senior roles such as Construction Manager and Project Director.

    General

Is the PMI-CP worth it for construction professionals in the Dominican Republic?

    What is the PMI-CP certification?

The PMI-CP is PMI's certification for the construction industry. It validates your ability to apply project management skills in a construction environment across four domains: Contracts Management (50 per cent), Stakeholder Engagement (30 per cent), Strategy and Scope Management (15 per cent) and Project Governance (5 per cent).

Who should take the PMI-CP certification?

It suits construction project managers, site and project engineers moving into project management, owner's representatives, construction programme managers and PMO professionals in the sector. It is an advanced, construction-specific credential for experienced practitioners rather than an entry-level course.

Is PMP required before the PMI-CP?

No. PMP is not a prerequisite for the PMI-CP. You can apply based on your construction project management experience and education. The two are complementary, with PMP validating broad project management and the PMI-CP validating construction-specific expertise.

    Is the PMI-CP recognised internationally?

Yes. As a PMI credential, the PMI-CP carries recognition through PMI's network in over 200 countries. It is valued in international construction markets, including the Dominican Republic, where owners and contractors seek globally recognised project management credentials.

    Pricing

How much does PMI-CP training cost in the Dominican Republic?

Training fees vary by format and are available on request, so speak with a learning advisor for a current quote. The training fee is separate from the PMI exam fee, which is billed by PMI in USD. Ask about corporate or group pricing if you are training a team.

What is included in the PMI-CP course fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware, practice questions and mock exams, guidance on the four prerequisite modules, application support, and learner support with a completion certificate. Contact us to confirm what is included in your chosen plan.

How much is the PMI-CP exam fee?

PMI bills the exam fee in USD and it may vary by region. For reference, it is around USD 520 for PMI members and USD 670 for non-members. PMI membership, around USD 139 per year, can reduce the exam cost. Verify current fees on pmi.org before applying.

Do you offer corporate or group discounts?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for construction firms, developers and public bodies. Request a group quote and we will tailor a programme to your project pipeline.

Are there any additional costs beyond training and the exam?

Beyond the training fee and the PMI exam fee, you may choose to pay for optional PMI membership and complete the four mandatory prerequisite modules, whose pricing varies by region and membership status. Reexamination fees also apply if you retake the exam.

    Exam

How long is the PMI-CP exam and how many questions are there?

The PMI-CP exam has 120 questions and lasts 230 minutes (3 hours 50 minutes). It is closed book with multiple-choice questions in single-answer and multiple-answer formats, based on the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline.

What are the PMI-CP exam domains and their weights?

There are four domains: Contracts Management (50 per cent), Stakeholder Engagement (30 per cent), Strategy and Scope Management (15 per cent) and Project Governance (5 per cent). The heavy weighting on contracts reflects how central contract administration and claims are in construction.

What is the passing score for the PMI-CP exam?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing standard and does not publish a fixed numeric score. Results are reported as pass or fail with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement, so aim for broad mastery across all four domains.

What if I do not pass the PMI-CP exam first time?

PMI allows up to three attempts within the one-year eligibility period from application approval. Our training includes practice questions and mock exams to build readiness, and reexamination fees apply to later attempts. Talk to an advisor about our prep support.

Where can I take the PMI-CP exam in the Dominican Republic?

You can sit the exam online through Pearson VUE's OnVUE proctoring from home or office, or at a Pearson VUE test centre. Scheduling is done through PMI's portal or the Pearson VUE website once your application is approved.

    Course Content

What topics does the PMI-CP training cover?

The training covers the four ECO domains: Contracts Management, Stakeholder Engagement, Strategy and Scope Management, and Project Governance. It spans contract types and delivery methods, claims, scope and change control, schedule, budget, risk, quality, governance and compliance.

What are the four mandatory prerequisite modules?

Before applying, candidates complete four self-paced modules in any order: Project Communications, Interface Management, Scope and Change Order Management, and Contract and Risk Management. Each awards 14 PDUs, for 56 PDUs in total, which count toward certification renewal.

Does this training meet the PMI-CP education requirement?

The instructor-led programme provides 32 contact hours, which is close to but below the 35 contact hours of project management education required across all eligibility sets. Check with our team on how supplementary study can help you meet the full 35-hour requirement.

Is the courseware aligned to the latest PMI-CP standard?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current PMI-CP Examination Content Outline and the latest PMBOK Guide. It maps directly to the four domains and their weightings so your preparation matches what the exam tests.

Will I receive a certificate after the training?

Yes. After meeting the course requirements you receive a course completion certificate along with the contact hours earned through the programme. Passing the PMI-CP exam itself then earns the official PMI digital certificate, badge and designation.

    Enrollment

What are the eligibility requirements for the PMI-CP?

You complete the four prerequisite modules and meet one of three experience sets: a secondary diploma with 60 months of construction PM experience; a bachelor's degree with 36 months; or a GAC-accredited degree with 24 months. All sets require 35 contact hours of PM education.

How soon can I start and how do I enrol?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website by choosing your format and completing payment, after which you receive schedules, courseware and learning resources. Live online and classroom batches run regularly. Talk to a learning advisor to find the next suitable cohort.

    What training formats are available?

We offer instructor-led live online (virtual) training, classroom training and customised corporate group training. Online sessions let you train from anywhere in the Dominican Republic, while corporate options can be delivered onsite for your team.

Can a site engineer without a PM title enrol?

Yes. Anyone can enrol in the training. Construction project management experience for the PMI-CP is defined by managing scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety and stakeholders, and is not limited to a formal PM title, so experienced site and project engineers qualify.

Can I reschedule or transfer my enrolment?

Yes. Flexible options let you reschedule or move to another batch, and selected plans allow you to attend the training again. Contact our support team to arrange a change that fits your schedule.
