Which governing body awards the PMI-CP?

The PMI-CP is awarded by the Project Management Institute (PMI), the global project management body. The exam is based on the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline (ECO) and references the current PMBOK Guide, Eighth Edition, alongside construction industry standards.

Is a PMP required before the PMI-CP?

No. A PMP is not a prerequisite. You can apply based on your construction project management experience and education. The two credentials are complementary, with PMP covering general project management and PMI-CP validating construction-specific expertise.

How long is the PMI-CP certification valid?

What if I do not pass the exam first time?

The exam has 120 questions and a duration of 230 minutes (3 hours 50 minutes). It is closed book, with single-answer and multiple-answer multiple-choice questions, delivered online proctored or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

Course Content

Do I need construction experience to take the training?

Anyone can enrol in the training. To sit the exam, PMI requires construction project management experience plus 35 contact hours of PM education and completion of four mandatory modules. Experience needed ranges from 24 to 60 months depending on your education.

What topics does the training cover?

The training covers the four exam domains: Contracts Management, Stakeholder Engagement, Strategy and Scope Management, and Project Governance, spanning contract types, change orders, claims, communications, scope, schedule, risk and governance across the construction lifecycle.

What are the four mandatory PMI-CP modules?

Before applying, you complete four self-paced modules in any order: Project Communications, Interface Management, Scope and Change Order Management, and Contract and Risk Management. Each awards 14 PDUs, for 56 PDUs in total.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions and full-length mock exams mapped to the 120-question format and the four domains, helping you identify weak areas and build exam readiness.

Is the courseware aligned to the latest PMI-CP standard?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current PMI-CP Examination Content Outline and references the PMBOK Guide Eighth Edition, so you study the construction domains and weights exactly as the exam tests them.
