What is JIRA training and who is it for?

Is JIRA training worth it in Switzerland?

Do I need prior Jira experience to attend?

Not for Fundamentals, which is designed for people new to or occasional users of Jira. The Advanced level assumes you have completed Fundamentals or have equivalent hands-on Jira experience, as it covers configuration and administration in depth.

What levels does the training cover?

There are two levels. Fundamentals runs over two days (16 hours) and covers core Jira use. Advanced runs over three days (24 hours) and covers workflows, schemes, automation, integrations and administration. You can attend either independently or both in sequence.

Which frameworks and tools does Jira support?

Jira supports Scrum, Kanban and broader Agile and DevOps delivery, with Scrum boards, Kanban boards, sprints, backlogs and roadmaps. It integrates with the Atlassian ecosystem, including Confluence and Bitbucket, plus GitHub and CI/CD pipelines for end-to-end delivery tracking.

Do I need a paid Jira licence to take the training?

You should have access to a Jira environment for the hands-on exercises. Jira Cloud offers a free tier suitable for practice. Ask us whether a shared training environment is provided for your session, or set up a free Jira Cloud trial before you start.

Assessment

Is there an exam for JIRA training?

No. JIRA training is a non-certification, skills-focused course with no examination at either level. Learning is reinforced through live, hands-on Jira exercises and configuration activities, and you receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning.

Do I receive anything on completing the training?

Yes. On completing each level you receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning. This recognises that you have finished the programme; it is a record of training, not a formal external credential, and the skills apply immediately at work.

How is learning assessed during the course?

Through practice rather than a test. You follow along in a live Jira environment while the trainer demonstrates each feature, then complete hands-on exercises using realistic Agile delivery scenarios, so you build genuine proficiency as you go.

What will I be able to do after Fundamentals?

You will be able to create and configure Scrum, Kanban and business projects, manage issues across the Epic, Story, Task, Bug and Subtask hierarchy, run sprints and Kanban boards, plan releases with versions, write basic JQL filters, and read core Agile reports.

What will I be able to do after Advanced?

You will be able to design custom workflows with conditions, validators and post-functions, apply permission, notification, screen and field configuration schemes, create custom fields, write advanced JQL, build dashboards, configure automation rules, and administer a Jira instance.

What topics does the JIRA training cover?

Fundamentals covers projects, issues, Scrum and Kanban boards, sprints, roadmaps, versions, filters, basic JQL and Agile reports. Advanced covers workflow design, schemes, custom fields, advanced JQL, dashboards, automation, DevOps integrations and Jira administration.

What is the difference between Fundamentals and Advanced?

Fundamentals builds core, day-to-day Jira skills for creating and tracking work. Advanced focuses on configuration and administration, including workflows, schemes, automation, integrations and governance, for experienced users who want to master how Jira is set up and run.

Are there hands-on exercises throughout?

Yes. Both levels are delivered with live Jira exercises. You work in a Jira environment alongside the trainer, applying each feature to realistic Agile delivery scenarios so the skills transfer straight to your own projects.

Does the training cover JQL and automation?

Yes. Fundamentals introduces filters and basic JQL, while Advanced goes deeper into JQL, including the CHANGED and WAS operators, and covers Jira automation rules using triggers, conditions, actions and smart values for auto-assignment, transitions and integrations.

Is the training based on Jira Cloud or Data Center?

The training focuses on Jira Software and is delivered primarily using Jira Cloud, the most common deployment. The skills apply to Jira Data Center as well; we can confirm the environment and any differences relevant to your setup before the session.
