Construction Market Pressures Driving PMI-CP Demand

    Contract and Claims Complexity

Swiss projects run on detailed, standard-based contracts where delay, variation and claims disputes are common. Contracts management is the largest PMI-CP domain at 50%, the exact skill set employers need.

PMI-CP builds contract and claims skills

    Skilled Leadership Shortage

High capacity utilisation and a shortage of skilled professionals are slowing Zurich's project pipeline, so certified construction project leaders who can deliver on time and on budget are in short supply.

PMI-CP makes certified leaders stand out

    Mega-Rail Programme Coordination

The CHF 3.3bn MehrSpur Zurich-Winterthur rail expansion and linked station works demand rigorous scheduling, risk aggregation and stakeholder coordination across many years of delivery.

PMI-CP builds governance and coordination skills

    Data-Centre and Digital Build-Out

Surging demand for computing capacity is driving major data-centre construction around Zurich, adding technically complex, fast-track projects that need disciplined scope and governance control.

PMI-CP builds scope and control skills

    Procurement and Governance Rigour

Cantonal and federal projects sit under strict Swiss public procurement and governance rules, so employers value managers fluent in project governance, reporting and compliance.

    PMI-CP builds project governance skills

    Capital Discipline and Value Delivery

Cost pressure across construction and real estate pushes organisations to control budgets tightly and protect value, raising demand for professionals skilled in strategy and scope management.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

The PMI Construction Professional (PMI-CP) is PMI's specialist certification for construction. It validates your ability to manage projects across four domains: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%). It suits construction PMs, site managers and PMP holders.

    General

What is the PMI-CP certification and who is it for?

The PMI Construction Professional (PMI-CP) is PMI's specialist certification for construction. It validates your ability to manage projects across four domains: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%). It suits construction PMs, site managers and PMP holders.

Is the PMI-CP worth it for construction professionals in Zurich?

Yes. In Zurich's active construction market, the PMI-CP signals globally recognised construction project management competence. Construction project managers here average around CHF 120,000 a year, with senior and contracts roles reaching higher, and certified leaders are sought after as rail, data-centre and housing investment grows.

Is PMP required before the PMI-CP?

No. PMP is not a prerequisite for the PMI-CP. You can pursue it based on your construction project management experience and education. The two credentials are complementary, with PMP covering general project management and the PMI-CP validating construction-specific expertise.

What standard is the PMI-CP based on?

The PMI-CP is based on PMI's PMI-CP Examination Content Outline (ECO), supported by the current edition of the PMBOK Guide and construction industry standards. The ECO defines the four domains and tasks tested in the exam.

How long is the PMI-CP certification valid?

The PMI-CP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle, with at least 8 PDUs in each of Ways of Working, Power Skills and Business Acumen, within the three-year cycle.

    Pricing

What is included in the PMI-CP training fee?

The training fee typically covers instructor-led sessions across all four PMI-CP domains, PMI-aligned courseware, practice questions, mock exams, guidance on the four prerequisite modules and the PMI application, and learner support. The PMI exam fee is billed separately. Request a quote for current pricing.

How much does PMI-CP training cost in Zurich?

PMI-CP training in Zurich is priced by format and cohort, so exact fees are available on request. The PMI exam fee is charged separately by PMI in USD under regional pricing and is not part of the training fee. Talk to a learning advisor for a tailored quote.

How much is the PMI-CP exam fee?

PMI bills the PMI-CP exam separately in USD under regional pricing, and members pay less than non-members. PMI membership also reduces the exam and renewal cost. Confirm current fees on pmi.org before applying.

Do you offer corporate or group pricing?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for construction teams, PMOs and business units. Contact us for a tailored group quote.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, and offer instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Exam

How many questions are on the PMI-CP exam and how long is it?

The PMI-CP exam has 120 questions and a total time of 230 minutes (3 hours 50 minutes). It is closed book, with single-answer and multiple-answer multiple-choice questions.

What are the PMI-CP exam domains and weights?

The exam covers four domains: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%), as set out in the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline.

What is the passing score for the PMI-CP exam?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score rather than a fixed percentage. Results are reported as pass or fail with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement, so aim for broad mastery across all four domains.

Where can I take the PMI-CP exam?

You can sit the PMI-CP exam online through Pearson VUE's OnVUE proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre, including centres accessible from Zurich. Scheduling is done through PMI's portal or Pearson VUE.

How many attempts do I get and what if I do not pass?

You have up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period from application approval. Re-examination fees apply to later attempts. Our mock exams and trainer support are designed to help you pass the first time.

What are the prerequisites to sit the PMI-CP exam?

You must complete four mandatory self-paced PMI-CP modules and meet one experience set: a secondary diploma with 60 months of construction PM experience, a bachelor's degree with 36 months, or a GAC-accredited degree with 24 months, all within the past 10 years, plus 35 contact hours of PM education.

    Course Content

What topics does the PMI-CP training cover?

The training covers all four PMI-CP domains: contract types, administration, variations, claims and closeout under Contracts Management; stakeholder and owner engagement; strategy, scope, schedule, cost, risk and quality; and project governance, reporting and compliance.

Can a construction professional without a PM title take this course?

Yes. The PMI-CP is designed for experienced construction professionals, and PMI counts hands-on experience managing scope, schedule, budget, quality and stakeholders, not only a formal PM job title. The training builds the exam skills on top of that experience.

    What learning resources are provided?

You receive PMI-aligned courseware, practice questions mapped to the PMI-CP ECO, full-length mock exams, an exam simulator where offered, templates and quizzes, plus guidance on completing the four prerequisite modules and the PMI application.

Is the courseware aligned to the current PMI-CP outline?

Yes. The courseware follows the current PMI-CP Examination Content Outline and its four domains, supported by the current edition of the PMBOK Guide and construction industry standards, so you prepare against the latest exam.

Does this training meet the 35 contact hours PMI requires?

The instructor-led programme provides substantial construction project management education toward the 35 contact hours PMI requires. Confirm with our team how contact hours and any supplementary study are credited toward your application.

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website or by speaking with a learning advisor. Choose your format, complete payment, and you receive access to schedules, courseware and resources. See upcoming batches for Zurich to plan your start.

Do I need to complete the four PMI-CP modules before enrolling?

No. You can start the training first. The four mandatory self-paced PMI-CP modules are a PMI requirement before you apply for the exam, and our team guides you on completing them alongside your preparation.

Can I reschedule or transfer to another batch?
