Why Construction Employers in Zambia Need PMI-CP Talent

    Mega-Project Delivery Pressure

The Lobito Corridor copper rail link, worth USD 3-5bn, and the Lumwana super pit demand disciplined, contract-driven delivery, the exact capability the PMI-CP is built to certify.

PMI-CP builds full-lifecycle construction delivery skills

    Contract and Claims Complexity

International EPC contractors and complex delivery models raise contract, variation and claims risk. PMI-CP's largest domain, Contracts Management, targets exactly this exposure.

PMI-CP builds contract and claims management skills

    Certified Construction PM Shortage

Zambia's project pipeline is expanding faster than its pool of credentialed construction project managers, making PMI-CP holders rare and highly sought after.

PMI-CP makes certified construction leaders stand out

    Mining Capital Programme Scale

With copper output targeted at 3.1m tonnes by 2031, concurrent capital projects need portfolio-grade scope, schedule and cost control across sites and contractors.

PMI-CP builds scope, schedule and cost control skills

    Energy and Electrification Rollout

ZESCO and Anzana's USD 300m Lobito Corridor electrification programme needs strong risk management and governance to connect nearly two million people by 2030.

PMI-CP builds risk and governance discipline

    Stakeholder and Regulatory Demands

Cross-border corridor and mining projects involve owners, regulators, financiers and communities. PMI-CP's Stakeholder Engagement domain equips leaders to manage them all.

No. The PMP is not a prerequisite for the PMI-CP. You can apply based on your construction project management experience and education. The two are complementary: the PMP validates broad project management, while the PMI-CP validates construction-specific expertise.

The PMI-CP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle within the three-year cycle, with a minimum of 8 PDUs in each of Ways of Working, Power Skills and Business Acumen.

    Exam

What is the format of the PMI-CP exam?

The PMI-CP exam is closed book with multiple-choice questions, in single-answer and multiple-answer formats. It is delivered online through Pearson VUE OnVUE proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre, and is based on the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline.

How many questions are on the PMI-CP exam and how long is it?

The exam has 120 questions and an allotted time of 230 minutes, which is 3 hours 50 minutes. Questions are distributed across the four domains, with Contracts Management the largest at 50 percent.

What are the prerequisites for the PMI-CP exam?

You must complete four mandatory self-paced PMI-CP modules (56 PDUs in total) and meet one of three experience and education sets: Set A needs a secondary diploma plus 60 months of construction PM experience; Set B a bachelor's degree plus 36 months; Set C a GAC-accredited degree plus 24 months. All sets require 35 contact hours of PM education.

What if I do not pass the PMI-CP exam the first time?

You get up to three attempts within a one-year eligibility window from application approval. Our mock exams, practice questions and trainer guidance are designed to build your readiness so you go in prepared. Reexamination fees apply and are set by PMI.

What is the passing score for the PMI-CP exam?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score rather than a published percentage. Results are reported as pass or fail with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement, so aim for broad mastery across all four domains.

    Course Content

What topics does the PMI-CP training cover?

The training covers the four PMI-CP domains: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%), plus exam strategy and guidance on the four mandatory PMI-CP modules and application.

Can I take PMI-CP training without senior construction experience?

You can attend the training at any stage to build your skills and contact hours. To sit the exam, PMI requires construction project management experience under one of its three eligibility sets, so the training also helps you plan your route to the credential.

Is the courseware aligned to the current PMI-CP exam?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current PMI-CP Examination Content Outline and the PMBOK Guide, covering the four construction domains and reflecting how the exam is structured today.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions, full-length mock exams and topic-wise quizzes mapped to the 120-question, 230-minute exam format, helping you identify weak areas and build readiness.

Will I receive a certificate after the training?

Yes. After meeting the course requirements you receive a course completion certificate along with the contact hours earned, which count toward the 35 contact hours PMI requires for exam eligibility.
