    What is the format of the Black Belt exam?

    The exam is a closed-book test of 150 multiple-choice questions based on the IASSC Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Body of Knowledge. Some forms include up to 15 additional unscored questions, and a reference document with formulas and tables is provided.

    How long is the exam and how is it delivered?

    You have four hours (240 minutes) to complete the 150 questions. The exam is delivered online with web-based proctoring available 24/7, or at a Pearson VUE test centre. Non-native speakers may receive additional time.

    What is the passing score for the Black Belt exam?

    You need a minimum of 580 points out of 750 to pass. The exam covers all five DMAIC phases, with Analyse and Measure carrying the largest weightings, so aim for broad mastery across the body of knowledge.

    What is the Exam Application Process?

    There is no application form or panel review. You purchase an exam voucher from IASSC, choose online proctoring or a Pearson VUE centre, then schedule and sit the exam. An optional non-proctored evaluation exam lets you check your readiness first.

    Can I retake the exam if I do not pass?

    Yes. You can re-sit the Black Belt exam by purchasing another voucher. Our trainers and practice materials are designed to help you prepare thoroughly and pass with confidence the first time.

    How do I maintain my certification?

    Your certification stays current for three years. To renew, you pass a shorter recertification exam of 75 questions in two hours, with a minimum 70% score, before your status elapses.

    Course Content

    What topics does the Black Belt training cover?

    The programme covers all five DMAIC phases: Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control. You learn process mapping, measurement system analysis, hypothesis testing, regression, Design of Experiments, statistical process control and Lean tools such as 5S and poka-yoke.

    Will I learn advanced statistics and Design of Experiments?

    Yes. Advanced statistical methods are the heart of Black Belt level. You cover hypothesis testing for normal and non-normal data, ANOVA, simple and multiple regression, and full and fractional factorial designed experiments.

    Is there hands-on or project-based practice?

    Yes. The training applies tools to a real or simulated improvement project, with case studies and exercises so you can practise DMAIC end to end rather than only learn the theory.

    Can a beginner or Green Belt take this course?

    There are no formal prerequisites, but the content is advanced. Green Belts and professionals with some process improvement exposure will find it most comfortable, and our trainers support learners throughout.

    Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Body of Knowledge structured around the five DMAIC phases, so what you study matches what the exam tests.
