What is the PgMP certification and who is it for?

The Program Management Professional (PgMP) is PMI's senior credential for professionals who manage multiple related projects as one coordinated programme to deliver strategic benefits. It suits senior programme managers, PMO leaders, delivery directors and transformation leaders with substantial programme experience.

Do I need a PMP before taking the PgMP?

No. PMP is not a mandatory prerequisite for PgMP. However, an active PMP satisfies the project management experience requirement across all three eligibility sets, so PMP holders only need to document their programme management experience.

Is the PgMP recognised internationally?

Yes. As a PMI credential, PgMP carries global recognition on par with PMP, which is recognised in over 200 countries. With fewer than 3,000 practitioners worldwide, it is a distinctive marker of programme leadership valued by senior employers in New Zealand and abroad.

How long is the PgMP certification valid?

PgMP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle, with a minimum of 8 PDUs in each area, within every three-year continuing certification requirements (CCR) cycle.

How much does PgMP training cost in New Zealand?

What is included in the PgMP course fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware, practice questions, mock exams, exam simulator access, downloadable templates, PgMP application and panel-review support, learner support, and a course completion certificate with contact hours. Request a quote for full inclusions.

Is the PMI exam fee included in the training price?

No. PMI bills the PgMP exam fee separately in USD under regional pricing (for reference, around USD 800 for members and USD 1,000 for non-members). PMI membership reduces the exam fee and gives free access to The Standard for Program Management. Verify current fees at pmi.org.

What is the format of the PgMP exam?

The PgMP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the PgMP Examination Content Outline and The Standard for Program Management, Fourth Edition. It covers five performance domains, with results reported as Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement.

How many questions are on the PgMP exam and how long is it?

The PgMP exam has 170 questions and an allotted time of four hours. It is delivered via Pearson VUE OnVUE online proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

What are the PgMP exam domains and their weights?

Five domains: Strategic Program Management (11%), Program Life Cycle Management (44%), Benefits Management (11%), Stakeholder Engagement (16%) and Governance (18%). The training covers all five in line with the current ECO.

What is the PgMP panel review?

The panel review is a multi-rater assessment unique to PgMP. A panel of programme management practitioners evaluates your documented experience and competency. It is mandatory alongside the written exam, and both must be passed to earn the credential.

What if I do not pass the exam the first time?

PMI permits up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility window from application approval. Re-examination fees apply to the second and third attempts. Our prep resources and mock exams are designed to help you pass with confidence.

Do I need prior experience to benefit from the course?

What are the eligibility requirements for the PgMP exam?

PMI offers three sets. With a secondary diploma: 48 months of project management experience or an active PMP, plus 84 months of programme experience. With a bachelor's degree: 48 months plus 48 months. With a GAC-accredited degree: 36 months plus 36 months. All experience must fall within the past 15 years.
