It is built for professionals who deliver building, civil or infrastructure projects and want construction-specific recognition.

Is the PMI-CP worth it for construction professionals in NZ?

Yes. As New Zealand's construction pipeline grows toward a forecast NZ$65.4 billion by 2030, employers value certified construction leaders. Senior construction PM and director roles reach around NZ$140,000 to NZ$177,000 or more, and the PMI-CP helps you access them.

Is the PMI-CP recognised in New Zealand?

Yes. As a PMI credential, the PMI-CP carries global recognition across PMI's network in more than 200 countries. It is valued by New Zealand contractors, consultancies and public agencies delivering large building and infrastructure projects.

How long is the PMI-CP valid and how do I renew it?

The PMI-CP is valid for three years. To renew, you earn 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle, with at least 8 PDUs in each area, within the three-year cycle. The 56 PDUs from the four prerequisite modules can be applied toward renewal.

Is the PMI exam fee included in the training price?

No. PMI bills the exam fee separately in USD under regional pricing, for reference around USD 520 for members and USD 670 for non-members. Verify current fees at pmi.org, as PMI periodically updates pricing.

What is the format of the PMI-CP exam?

The PMI-CP exam is closed book with multiple-choice questions in single-answer and multiple-answer formats. It is delivered online through Pearson VUE OnVUE proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre, and covers the four construction project management domains.

How many questions are on the PMI-CP exam and how long is it?

The exam has 120 questions and an allotted time of 230 minutes, which is 3 hours and 50 minutes. It is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline.

What are the four PMI-CP exam domains and their weights?

There are four domains: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%). The heavy weighting on contracts reflects how central contract and claims management are to construction delivery.

What is the passing score for the PMI-CP exam?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score and does not publish a fixed number. Results are reported as pass or fail, with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement, so aim for broad mastery across all four domains.

What if I do not pass the PMI-CP exam the first time?

You get up to three attempts within the one-year eligibility window from application approval. Our practice questions and mock exams are designed to build your readiness so you approach each attempt with confidence.

Course Content

What will I learn in the PMI-CP training?

You learn to manage construction contracts and delivery methods, handle variations, claims and disputes, engage owners, communities and regulators, align strategy, scope and schedule, and govern projects, mapped to the four PMI-CP ECO domains.

What are the four mandatory prerequisite modules?

Before applying, all candidates complete four self-paced modules in any order: Project Communications, Interface Management, Scope and Change Order Management, and Contract and Risk Management. Each awards 14 PDUs, for 56 PDUs in total.

Does this training satisfy the PMI-CP education prerequisite?

The programme provides 32 contact hours, close to but below the 35 contact hours of project management education required across all three eligibility sets. Check with our team on whether supplementary self-study is credited toward the 35-hour requirement.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions and full-length mock exams aligned to the 120-question, 230-minute format, plus domain-focused revision so you can identify weak areas and build exam readiness.

Is the courseware aligned to the latest PMI-CP outline?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline and the current edition of the PMBOK Guide, covering the four domains and construction industry practices as PMI defines them.

What are the eligibility requirements for the PMI-CP?

Eligibility is two-part. You complete all four prerequisite modules, and meet one experience set: high school diploma plus 60 months construction PM experience, a bachelor's degree plus 36 months, or a GAC-accredited degree plus 24 months, each with 35 contact hours of PM education.

Is the PMP required before the PMI-CP?

No. The PMP is not a prerequisite. You can apply based on your construction project management experience and education. The two credentials are complementary, and many construction professionals hold both.

How do I enrol in the PMI-CP course?
