What is the PfMP certification and who is it for?

Is the PfMP worth it for professionals in New Zealand?

Is the PfMP recognised in New Zealand?

Yes. As a PMI credential, the PfMP carries global recognition across more than 200 countries and is valued by New Zealand employers in government, infrastructure, IT, telco and financial services that run large, strategy-critical portfolios.

How is the PfMP different from PMP and PgMP?

PMP validates managing individual projects and PgMP validates managing a coordinated programme of related projects. The PfMP validates managing the entire portfolio, aligning the selection, prioritisation and governance of all programmes and projects to strategy. It is the most senior PMI practitioner credential.

How long is the PfMP valid and how do I renew it?

The PfMP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle within each three-year continuing certification requirements (CCR) cycle and pay the renewal fee.

What is included in the PfMP training fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware, practice questions, mock exams, exam simulator access, downloadable templates, application and panel-review support, learner support and a course completion certificate with contact hours. Request a quote for the full inclusions.

How much does PfMP training cost in New Zealand?

Instructor-led PfMP training is priced in NZD and varies by format and schedule; exact fees are available on request. The PMI exam fee is billed separately in USD under regional pricing and is not part of the training fee. Ask about group and corporate rates.

How much is the PfMP exam fee?

PMI bills the PfMP exam fee in USD under regional pricing, roughly USD 800 for members and USD 1,000 for non-members. PMI membership (about USD 139 per year) lowers the exam cost. Confirm current fees on the PMI store before applying.

Do you offer group or corporate discounts for PfMP training?

What is the format of the PfMP exam?

The PfMP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the PfMP Examination Content Outline and The Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition. It uses scenario and situational questions across five performance domains.

How many questions are on the PfMP exam and how long is it?

The PfMP exam has 170 questions and a four-hour (240-minute) allotted time. Questions are distributed across the five domains: Strategic Alignment, Governance, Portfolio Performance, Portfolio Risk Management and Communications Management.

What is the PfMP panel review?

The panel review is a multi-rater assessment unique to the PfMP. A panel of portfolio management practitioners evaluates your documented experience and competency. It is a mandatory step in addition to the written exam, and both must be passed to earn the credential.

What is the passing score for the PfMP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed percentage pass mark. The result is determined through psychometric analysis, with domain-level feedback such as Above Target or Target, so focus on broad mastery across all five domains.

What happens if I do not pass the exam the first time?

PMI allows up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period. Re-examination fees apply to the second and third attempts. Our preparation support, mock exams and simulator are designed to build your readiness before you sit the exam.

Course Content

What topics does the PfMP training cover?

The training covers the five PfMP performance domains: Strategic Alignment (25%), Governance (20%), Portfolio Performance (25%), Portfolio Risk Management (14%) and Communications Management (16%), plus the PfMP application, panel-review guidance and exam strategy.

Which standard and exam outline is the course based on?

The courseware is aligned to PMI's The Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition, and the current PfMP Examination Content Outline (ECO), so your preparation reflects what the exam actually assesses.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes 1000+ practice questions, full-length mock exams, an exam simulator and topic-wise quizzes mapped to the PfMP ECO, so you can identify weak areas and build exam readiness.

Do I need prior experience to attend the training?

Anyone can attend the training, and it is designed for senior professionals. To sit the exam, however, PMI requires substantial business and portfolio management experience, so the training also guides you through documenting that experience for your application.

Will I receive a certificate of completion after the training?

Yes. After meeting the course requirements you receive a course completion certificate along with the contact hours (PDUs) earned through the programme.

What are the eligibility requirements for the PfMP exam?

PMI offers three sets. With a secondary diploma: 120 months of business experience plus 84 months of portfolio management experience. With a four-year degree: 120 months plus 48 months. With a GAC-accredited degree: 120 months plus 36 months. All experience must fall within the last 15 years.

How do I enrol in the PfMP course?
