What Is Driving Demand for PRINCE2 Skills in New Zealand

    Public Sector Governance Expectations

New Zealand government agencies and councils run projects under strict business-case, stage-gate and accountability rules, exactly the controlled governance PRINCE2 Practitioners are trained to deliver.

PRINCE2 builds governance and stage-control skills

    Procurement and Tender Requirements

Many NZ government IT procurements name PRINCE2 as preferred or required, so certified project managers pass a threshold that non-certified candidates cannot.

PRINCE2 helps you clear the tender bar

    Digital Transformation Backlog

Health NZ, the Department of Internal Affairs and major banks are running multi-year transformation programmes, creating steady demand for project managers who can govern scope, risk and stages.

PRINCE2 builds scope, risk and stage skills

    Shortage of Structured PM Talent

New Zealand has plenty of delivery-focused project staff but fewer managers fluent in a formal, tailorable method, making PRINCE2 7 credential holders genuinely scarce.

    PRINCE2 7 holders stand out

    Infrastructure and Transport Delivery

Waka Kotahi, Auckland Transport and council capital programmes need portfolio-grade planning, risk control and cross-stage coordination that PRINCE2 governance supports.

PRINCE2 builds planning and risk control

    Sustainability and People Focus

PRINCE2 7 adds people-management and ESG capability, matching New Zealand employer expectations for sustainable, well-led and inclusive project delivery.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

PRINCE2 Practitioner is PeopleCert's advanced credential that validates your ability to apply and tailor the PRINCE2 method to real project scenarios. It is designed for practising and aspiring project managers, and for PRINCE2 Foundation holders ready to advance to the highest standard PRINCE2 qualification.

    General

What is PRINCE2 Practitioner and who is it for?

PRINCE2 Practitioner is PeopleCert's advanced credential that validates your ability to apply and tailor the PRINCE2 method to real project scenarios. It is designed for practising and aspiring project managers, and for PRINCE2 Foundation holders ready to advance to the highest standard PRINCE2 qualification.

Is PRINCE2 Practitioner worth it in New Zealand?

Yes. PRINCE2 is widely used across NZ government, councils, banking and IT, and is named or preferred in many public sector tenders. Certified project managers earn strong salaries, with senior roles averaging around NZ$147,000. Request a quote to start your certification journey.

Who governs the PRINCE2 Practitioner certification?

PRINCE2 was created and developed by AXELOS, which PeopleCert acquired in 2021. PeopleCert now owns, publishes and examines all PRINCE2 qualifications. The current standard is the PRINCE2 7th Edition (2023).

What are the prerequisites for PRINCE2 Practitioner?

You need PRINCE2 Foundation certification, or an accepted equivalent such as PMP, CAPM or IPMA Level A/B/C/D. There is no formal work-experience requirement, though the credential is designed for people who manage projects.

How long is the PRINCE2 Practitioner certification valid?

PRINCE2 Practitioner is valid for three years. You can renew by retaking the Practitioner exam, completing CPD via a PeopleCert MyAxelos subscription, or passing a higher-level PRINCE2 qualification.

What is new in PRINCE2 7 compared with PRINCE2 6?

PRINCE2 7th Edition (2023) introduces People capability as a core element, renames Themes to Practices, and integrates commercial management, sustainability and digital data considerations, with updated processes and management products.

    Pricing

How much does PRINCE2 Practitioner training cost in New Zealand?

Training is quoted by format and cohort, and is available on request. The PeopleCert exam fee is billed separately and varies by region and channel. Contact a learning advisor for a New Zealand quote and current exam pricing.

What is included in the PRINCE2 Practitioner course fee?

The fee typically includes instructor-led training, PRINCE2 7-aligned courseware, scenario practice, open-book exam technique and learner support. Exam vouchers are often bundled in accredited packages; confirm exactly what your plan includes.

Is the exam fee included in the training price?

It depends on the package. Accredited providers often bundle the PeopleCert exam voucher with training, but pricing varies by region and channel. Verify current exam fees at peoplecert.org or ask us for a quote.

Do you offer group or corporate discounts?

Yes. We offer corporate PRINCE2 training with tailored content and volume-based pricing for teams and PMOs across New Zealand. Ask about corporate or group pricing for your team.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, with instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you best.

    Exam

What is the format of the PRINCE2 Practitioner exam?

The Practitioner exam is open book, with the PRINCE2 Managing Successful Projects manual permitted. It uses scenario-based objective questions, including multiple choice, matching, sequence and assertion-reason formats, based on the PRINCE2 7 Practitioner syllabus.

How many questions are on the exam and how long is it?

The exam has 56 questions and sub-questions worth 70 marks, and you have 150 minutes (2 hours 30 minutes) to complete it.

What is the passing score for PRINCE2 Practitioner?

You need 60% to pass, which is 42 out of 70 marks.

Does open book mean I can just look up the answers?

No. The manual is permitted, but the questions require scenario-based analysis and judgment. You cannot simply look up answers, so both efficient manual navigation and deep method knowledge matter.

Where can I sit the PRINCE2 Practitioner exam?

You can sit it online through PeopleCert's OnVUE proctoring, available 24/7, or at a PeopleCert authorised test centre. It is usually arranged through an accredited training organisation as part of a training and exam package.

What if I do not pass on the first attempt?

You can resit the PeopleCert exam; re-sit fees and policy apply, so confirm current terms at peoplecert.org. Our training includes scenario practice and open-book technique to help you prepare thoroughly the first time.

    Course Content

What topics does the PRINCE2 Practitioner training cover?

The training covers all nine PRINCE2 7 Practitioner syllabus areas: principles, practices, processes, key roles and responsibilities, people management, sustainability and ESG, digital and data management, communication methods, and tailoring to your needs.

Do I need prior experience to take this course?

You should hold PRINCE2 Foundation or an accepted equivalent before sitting the Practitioner exam. The training builds on that base with scenario practice, so both progressing Foundation holders and experienced project managers can follow it comfortably.

Is the courseware aligned to the latest PRINCE2 edition?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the PRINCE2 7th Edition (2023) and the PRINCE2 7 Practitioner syllabus, based on the Managing Successful Projects manual published by PeopleCert and AXELOS.

Are there practice questions and mock scenarios?

Yes. The programme includes scenario-based exercises and practice questions modelled on the open-book Practitioner exam, helping you apply principles, practices and processes and identify weak areas before exam day.

How long is the PRINCE2 Practitioner training?

The Practitioner programme is typically delivered over about 16 hours, as two full days or four half days, covering all nine syllabus areas through scenario-based learning and exam technique.
