Market Forces Driving PgMP Demand in Christchurch

    Infrastructure and Rebuild Complexity

PgMP builds programme governance and coordination skills

    Aerospace Programme Scale-Up

As Christchurch's aerospace and future-transport hub grows, complex capability programmes need senior leaders who can align multiple workstreams to strategy and govern risk at scale.

PgMP builds benefits and stakeholder capability

    Health System Transformation

Health and HealthTech transformation across Canterbury spans many related projects, where weak links between strategy and delivery cause value leakage that programme leaders are hired to fix.

    PgMP builds benefits realisation skills

    Digital Transformation Pressure

Public-sector and enterprise digital programmes in Christchurch approve ambitious change, but need credentialed leaders to connect the funded project mix to strategic outcomes.

PgMP builds strategic programme management skills

    Programme Talent Scarcity

New Zealand's PM pool is deep in project managers but thin in credentialed programme managers. The PgMP's advanced eligibility and panel review make holders rare and sought-after.

PgMP makes certified programme leaders stand out

    Capital-Efficiency Demands

Capital discipline across infrastructure, health and BFSI pushes organisations to prove benefits, retire low-value work and rebalance programmes to strategy under strong governance.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

PgMP (Program Management Professional) is PMI's senior credential for professionals who manage multiple related projects as a coordinated programme to deliver strategic benefits. It is designed for senior programme managers, PMO leaders, directors of delivery and PMP holders stepping up. Fewer than 3,000 practitioners worldwide hold it.

    General

What is the PgMP certification and who is it for?

PgMP (Program Management Professional) is PMI's senior credential for professionals who manage multiple related projects as a coordinated programme to deliver strategic benefits. It is designed for senior programme managers, PMO leaders, directors of delivery and PMP holders stepping up. Fewer than 3,000 practitioners worldwide hold it.

Is the PgMP worth it for programme leaders in Christchurch?

Yes. The PgMP is valued by Christchurch employers in aerospace, infrastructure, health, technology and the public sector that run large, strategy-critical programmes. Programme Manager roles in New Zealand average around NZ$155,500, and certified leaders are increasingly sought after as PMOs mature. Talk to a learning advisor to plan your path.

Do I need PMP before taking the PgMP?

No. PMP is not a mandatory prerequisite. However, an active PMP satisfies the project management experience requirement across all three eligibility sets, so PMP holders only need to document their programme management experience.

What are the PgMP eligibility requirements?

There are three sets. With a secondary diploma: 48 months of PM experience or PMP, plus 84 months of programme management experience. With a bachelor's degree: 48 months PM or PMP, plus 48 months programme experience. With a GAC-accredited degree: 36 months PM or PMP, plus 36 months programme experience, all within the past 15 years.

How long is the PgMP certification valid?

The PgMP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle, with at least 8 PDUs in each of the three areas, within each three-year continuing certification requirements (CCR) cycle.

    Pricing

How much does PgMP training cost in Christchurch?

Instructor-led PgMP training fees in Christchurch vary by format and schedule and are available on request. The PMI exam fee is billed separately by PMI in USD under regional pricing and is not part of the training fee. Request a quote for current pricing and group options.

What is included in the PgMP course fee?

Is the PMI exam fee included in the price?

    Exam

What is the format of the PgMP exam?

The PgMP exam is closed book with multiple-choice questions, based on the PgMP Examination Content Outline and aligned to PMI's Standard for Program Management, Fourth Edition. It covers five performance domains and is delivered via Pearson VUE OnVUE online proctoring or at a test centre.

How many questions are on the PgMP exam and how long is it?

The exam has 170 questions and an allotted time of four hours. Results are reported as pass or fail with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement.

What are the five PgMP exam domains and their weights?

Strategic Program Management (11%), Program Life Cycle Management (44%), Benefits Management (11%), Stakeholder Engagement (16%) and Governance (18%). Program Life Cycle Management carries the largest weight, so focus your preparation there.

What is the PgMP panel review?

The panel review is a multi-rater assessment unique to the PgMP. A panel of programme management practitioners evaluates your documented experience. It is mandatory in addition to the written exam, and both must be passed to earn the credential. Our training includes preparation support for it.

What if I do not pass the exam the first time?

PMI permits up to three attempts within the one-year eligibility period from application approval. Re-examination fees apply to the second and third attempts. Our mock exams and trainer guidance are designed to build your readiness before you sit.

    Course Content

What topics are covered in the PgMP training?

The training covers the five performance domains: Strategic Program Management, Program Life Cycle Management, Benefits Management, Stakeholder Engagement and Governance, plus application and panel-review preparation and exam strategy, all aligned to the Standard for Program Management, Fourth Edition.

Do I need prior experience to benefit from the training?

Yes, the PgMP is a senior credential, so the training suits experienced programme managers and PMP holders. It builds on your existing project and programme experience and helps you map it to PMI's framework for both the exam and the panel review.

What learning resources and materials are provided?

You receive PMI-aligned courseware, references to the PgMP Examination Content Outline and Handbook, a Standard for Program Management overview, templates, flashcards and chapter-wise quizzes to support your revision.

Are mock exams and practice questions included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions and full-length mock exams mapped to the PgMP ECO and the 170-question, four-hour format, helping you identify weak areas and build exam readiness.

Is the courseware aligned to the current PgMP standard?
