Uniquely, it requires completing four self-paced modules before you apply.

Who should take PMI-CP training?

PMI-CP suits construction project managers, site and project engineers moving into PM roles, contracts and commercial managers, owner's representatives and construction consultants. It is an advanced, construction-specific credential for experienced practitioners in the built environment.

Is PMP required before PMI-CP?

No. PMP is not a prerequisite for PMI-CP. You can apply based on your construction project management experience and education. The two are complementary, PMP validates broad project management and PMI-CP validates construction-specific expertise, so many professionals hold both.

How long is the PMI-CP certification valid?

PMI-CP is valid for three years from the date of certification. To maintain it, you earn 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle within the three-year cycle, with a minimum of 8 PDUs in each of Ways of Working, Power Skills and Business Acumen.

What is the format of the PMI-CP exam?

The PMI-CP exam has 120 questions to be completed in 230 minutes (3 hours 50 minutes). It is closed book with single-answer and multiple-answer multiple-choice questions, delivered via Pearson VUE online proctoring or at a test centre, and based on the current PMI-CP Examination Content Outline.

What are the PMI-CP exam domains and their weights?

There are four domains in the PMI-CP ECO: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%). The exam is grounded in construction project management practice and the PMBOK Guide.

What are the prerequisites and eligibility for PMI-CP?

How many attempts do I get and can I retake the exam?

You are allowed up to three attempts within the one-year eligibility period that starts when your application is approved. Re-examination fees apply to later attempts; confirm current amounts on pmi.org.

What will I learn in the PMI-CP training?

You will learn to manage construction contracts, variations, claims and disputes; engage owners, regulators and communities; define scope, schedule, cost, risk and quality; and establish project governance. The content maps directly to the four PMI-CP ECO domains.

What are the four mandatory prerequisite modules?

Before applying, you complete four self-paced modules in any order, each awarding 14 PDUs (56 total): Project Communications, Interface Management, Scope and Change Order Management, and Contract and Risk Management. Our training includes guidance on completing them.

Do I need prior construction experience to join?
