What is the format of the PfMP exam?

The PfMP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the PfMP Examination Content Outline and The Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition. It uses scenario-based questions across five performance domains.

How many questions are on the PfMP exam and how long is it?

The exam has 170 questions and you have four hours (240 minutes) to complete it. Questions are distributed across the five performance domains defined in the PfMP ECO.

What are the PfMP exam domains and their weights?

Five domains: Strategic Alignment (25%), Governance (20%), Portfolio Performance (25%), Portfolio Risk Management (14%) and Communications Management (16%). The panel review assesses your documented portfolio experience alongside the written exam.

How is the PfMP exam scored and where is it taken?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score rather than a fixed percentage, reporting results by domain. You sit the exam via Pearson VUE OnVUE online proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre in Ireland or worldwide.
