What Is Quality Function Deployment?UntitledA Customer-Driven Route to Better Design

Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is a structured, customer-driven method for translating the Voice of the Customer into specific engineering and process characteristics at every stage of product and service development. This Quality Function Deployment training in Czechia teaches you to build and interpret the House of Quality, the central QFD planning matrix, so every design decision stays anchored to what customers genuinely need. Developed in Japan by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno and first applied at the Kobe Shipyard, QFD is now a standard tool across automotive, aerospace, electronics, healthcare and software design. This one-day, instructor-led programme suits product designers, design and quality engineers, product managers, R&D professionals and Six Sigma practitioners in Prague, Brno, Ostrava and Plzeň who want to move from intuition-based design to traceable, customer-led specifications. There is no formal examination; the focus is entirely on practical skills you can apply on real projects, using the four-phase QFD model from product planning to production. Start building customer-driven design capability with Invensis Learning.

Why Czech Manufacturers Need Customer-Driven Design

    Late-Stage Design Changes

Czech automotive and electronics makers lose time and money to design changes found late in prototyping. QFD surfaces conflicts early with the correlation roof, before they reach expensive tooling.

    QFD closes design gaps early

    Customer Voice Lost in Handoffs

Customer needs often get lost between marketing and engineering. The House of Quality makes every requirement traceable, so what customers ask for actually reaches the design specification.

    QFD keeps requirements visible

    Electrification and Product Complexity

With electrified models at 41% of Q1 2026 production, Czech makers face fast-changing customer and technical requirements. QFD gives teams a structured way to translate them into design targets.

    QFD structures new requirements

Reshoring and Faster Time to Market

As manufacturing returns to Europe, Czech firms must get products right first time under tight timelines. QFD reduces rework by anchoring design to validated customer priorities from the start.

    QFD builds first-time-right design

Traceability in Tier 1 Supply Chains

Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers must show customer requirement traceability in APQP and quality audits. QFD cascades needs from product planning to process controls, creating a clear audit trail.

    QFD builds requirement traceability

    Scarce Design-Quality Talent

The Czech engineering talent pool is deep in delivery but thin in customer-driven design skills. Professionals who can run a House of Quality are rare and valued across manufacturing employers.

    QFD helps you stand out

Sources: CzechInvest, Czech Statistical Office (CSU), Czech automotive industry production data 2026; ERI SalaryExpert, Platy.cz (Czechia) 2026.

QFD is a practical skill that pays off on your next product. Learn to turn customer needs into design specifications and help your team design it right the first time. Start your QFD journey today.

    Your Czechia Skills Transformation

    From Guesswork to Customer-Driven Design

How QFD Changes the Way You Work

Czech manufacturing and product development are advancing fast with electrification, Industry 4.0 and the reshoring of production, and employers increasingly value engineers who can design around the customer. Here is the shift QFD skills make.

The training suits product designers, design and quality engineers, product managers, R&D professionals and Six Sigma practitioners. It is ideal for anyone in Czech automotive, electronics, machinery or product firms who needs to turn customer requirements into design specifications.

Yes. QFD gives you a repeatable way to design products customers actually want, cutting rework and speeding up development. Design-quality skills are in demand across Czech manufacturing, where design and quality engineers earn around Kč 790,000 to 1,200,000 a year. Talk to a learning advisor to get started.

No. There are no formal prerequisites. The course introduces QFD and the House of Quality from first principles. Familiarity with product development or quality management is helpful but not required, and all concepts are taught with hands-on exercises.

It captures customer requirements, engineering characteristics, the relationship matrix, a correlation roof, competitive benchmarking and engineering targets, giving cross-functional teams one clear view of design priorities.

    General

    What is Quality Function Deployment?

Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is a structured, customer-driven method for translating the Voice of the Customer into specific engineering and process characteristics. Its central tool is the House of Quality, a planning matrix that links what customers want to how a product or service is designed and built.

Who should attend QFD training in Czechia?

The training suits product designers, design and quality engineers, product managers, R&D professionals and Six Sigma practitioners. It is ideal for anyone in Czech automotive, electronics, machinery or product firms who needs to turn customer requirements into design specifications.

Is QFD training worth it for design and quality professionals?

Yes. QFD gives you a repeatable way to design products customers actually want, cutting rework and speeding up development. Design-quality skills are in demand across Czech manufacturing, where design and quality engineers earn around Kč 790,000 to 1,200,000 a year. Talk to a learning advisor to get started.

Do I need prior experience to learn QFD?

No. There are no formal prerequisites. The course introduces QFD and the House of Quality from first principles. Familiarity with product development or quality management is helpful but not required, and all concepts are taught with hands-on exercises.

What is the House of Quality?

The House of Quality is the main QFD matrix, named for its house-like shape. It captures customer requirements, engineering characteristics, the relationship matrix, a correlation roof, competitive benchmarking and engineering targets, giving cross-functional teams one clear view of design priorities.

    Assessment

Is there an exam for QFD training?

No. This is a non-certification, practical skills course with no examination. Learning is reinforced through hands-on House of Quality construction exercises, case studies and team discussion during the one-day programme.

Do I get a certificate after completing QFD training?

Yes. On completing the programme you receive a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning. It recognises that you have attended the training and practised building and interpreting the House of Quality.

How is learning checked during the course?

There is no formal assessment. Instead, you learn by doing: structuring the Voice of the Customer, classifying needs with the Kano model, building a full House of Quality and calculating design priorities, all through guided exercises you can apply straight away at work.

Does QFD have a governing body or awarding organisation?

No. QFD is a vendor-neutral methodology with no single governing body. It was developed in Japan by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno and is built around the House of Quality and the four-phase QFD model, which this course teaches from first principles.

Will my QFD skills expire or need renewing?

No. There is no credential to maintain and nothing to renew. The QFD methodology and House of Quality skills you build are immediately and permanently applicable to product development, service design and improvement projects.

    Course Content

What topics does the QFD course cover?

The course covers QFD foundations and the business case, capturing and structuring the Voice of the Customer, building and interpreting the House of Quality, cascading QFD through four phases, and applying QFD within Design for Six Sigma, DMAIC and service design.

What will I be able to do after the training?

After the training you can capture and structure the Voice of the Customer, build a complete House of Quality, read the correlation roof to resolve conflicts, calculate design priorities, and cascade requirements through parts, process and production planning.

Does the course include hands-on House of Quality practice?

Yes. Hands-on exercises run throughout the day. You structure customer requirements, classify them with the Kano model and build a full House of Quality from a realistic product or service scenario, so you leave able to run one on your own projects.

Does QFD apply to services and software, not just manufacturing?

Yes. While QFD began in manufacturing, the course covers its use in services such as healthcare and financial services, and in software design. The House of Quality applies wherever customer requirements must be translated into design or delivery specifications.

How long is the QFD training?

The programme runs for one day, around 8 hours, and covers all six QFD modules with concept explanations, real-world case examples and hands-on House of Quality exercises. A half-day format spread over two sessions is also available.
