Why Construction Employers in Bermuda Need Certified Leaders

    Contract and Claims Complexity

Construction projects turn on contracts, variations and claims, yet many are managed reactively. PMI-CP devotes 50 percent of its exam to Contracts Management, the exact gap it is built to close.

PMI-CP builds contract and claims management skills

    Permit and Approval Delays

With over 1,200 permit applications a year straining approvals, projects need managers who can plan around regulatory timelines and keep governance tight to avoid programme slippage.

PMI-CP builds governance and regulatory skills

    Tourism-Led Project Surge

Resort work at Fairmont Southampton and the Southampton Princess redevelopment is driving demand for leaders who can manage scope, schedule and stakeholders on landmark builds.

PMI-CP builds scope and delivery skills

    Skilled Delivery Talent Shortage

Bermuda's construction talent pool is small and often imported. A construction-specific PMI credential and its mandatory module pathway make holders rare and highly sought-after.

PMI-CP makes certified construction leaders stand out

    Cost and Scope Overruns

Island logistics inflate material and labour costs, so uncontrolled scope and change orders quickly erode margin. PMI-CP trains disciplined scope, change and cost control.

PMI-CP builds scope and change control skills

    Regulatory and Sustainability Pressure

New builds such as LEED Platinum Brookfield House raise the bar on compliance and standards. Employers need managers who can govern quality, safety and sustainability requirements.

    Your Bermuda Career Transformation

How PMI-CP Reshapes Your Construction Career

    Today Versus After You Certify

Bermuda's construction market is expanding with tourism-led redevelopment and record public investment, and employers increasingly separate certified delivery leaders from the rest. Here is which side of that line you want to be on.

    Today

Construction PM pay capped with limited leverage to negotiate on island

    After PMI-CP

Construction PM roles average around BMD 92,551, with contracts and QS managers near BMD 133,000

    Today

Passed over for roles that ask for a construction-specific credential

    After PMI-CP

Eligible for senior PM, contracts and director roles across hotel, hospital and infrastructure work

    Today

Strong on site, but employers want proof of contracts and governance skill

    After PMI-CP

Fluent in construction contracts, claims and project governance to PMI standards

    You earn your PMI-CP

    Before

Project authority rests on experience alone, with no recognised credential

    Now you have

A PMI construction credential recognised by employers in Bermuda and worldwide

    Before

Recognition limited to local employers when you change firm or market

    Now you have

A globally portable credential valued across Bermuda, the UK and international markets

    Before

Contracts and claims handled reactively, exposing projects to disputes

    Now you have

The contract, risk and scope skills to prevent overruns and protect margin

    Before

Stakeholders managed informally across owners and authorities

    Now you have

A structured way to engage owners, regulators and communities on complex builds

"On a small island, the gap between delivering a project and governing it well is increasingly a recognised credential, and the firms that matter already know it."

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

PMI-CP is the Project Management Institute's specialist certification for construction project management. It is built for construction project managers, quantity surveyors, site leaders and PMP holders working in construction who want a globally recognised, construction-specific credential.

    General

What is the PMI-CP certification and who is it for?

PMI-CP is the Project Management Institute's specialist certification for construction project management. It is built for construction project managers, quantity surveyors, site leaders and PMP holders working in construction who want a globally recognised, construction-specific credential.

Is the PMI-CP recognised in Bermuda?

Yes. As a PMI credential, PMI-CP carries global recognition through PMI's network in over 200 countries, and it is valued by Bermuda's construction firms, developers and government projects delivering complex builds. It sits well alongside local and UK professional memberships.

How is PMI-CP different from the PMP?

PMP is a broad project management credential across all industries, while PMI-CP specialises in construction, with Contracts Management as its largest domain at 50 percent. PMP is not required first, and the two credentials are complementary for construction project managers.

Is the PMI-CP worth it for construction professionals?

Yes. Construction project managers in Bermuda average around BMD 92,551 a year, with contracts and quantity surveyor managers near BMD 133,000, and a construction-specific PMI credential helps you compete for these senior roles. Talk to a learning advisor to plan your path.

What standard is the PMI-CP based on?

PMI-CP is based on the current PMI-CP Examination Content Outline (ECO), aligned to construction project management principles and the current edition of the PMBOK Guide. The ECO defines four domains: Contracts Management, Stakeholder Engagement, Strategy and Scope Management, and Project Governance.

    Pricing

How much does PMI-CP training cost in Bermuda?

PMI-CP training fees vary by format and are available on request. The PMI exam fee is billed separately by PMI in USD (for reference, around USD 520 for members and USD 670 for non-members; confirm current fees at pmi.org). Request a quote for current Bermuda pricing.

What is included in the course fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware, practice questions, mock exams, guidance on the four prerequisite modules, application support and learner support. The PMI exam fee and the module fees are purchased separately through PMI.

Is the exam fee included in the training price?

No. PMI bills the PMI-CP exam fee separately in USD under member and non-member rates. PMI individual membership (around USD 139 a year) lowers the exam fee; verify the current figures at pmi.org before applying.

Do the four prerequisite modules cost extra?

Yes. The four mandatory self-paced modules are purchased through PMI, and pricing varies by region and membership status. Together they award 56 PDUs you can later apply to renewal. Confirm current module pricing at pmi.org.

Do you offer corporate or group pricing?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for construction firms, developers and project teams. Contact us for a tailored quote for your team in Bermuda.

    Exam

What is the format of the PMI-CP exam?

The PMI-CP exam is a closed-book, computer-based test of 120 questions taken over 230 minutes (3 hours 50 minutes). It uses single-answer and multiple-answer multiple-choice questions, delivered via Pearson VUE online proctoring or at a test centre.

What are the PMI-CP exam domains and their weights?

The current ECO defines four domains: Contracts Management (50 percent), Stakeholder Engagement (30 percent), Strategy and Scope Management (15 percent) and Project Governance (5 percent). Contracts Management is the largest, reflecting the centrality of contracts in construction.

What are the eligibility requirements for PMI-CP?

Eligibility is two-part. First, complete all four self-paced modules. Second, meet one of three sets: a secondary diploma with 60 months construction PM experience, a bachelor's degree with 36 months, or a GAC-accredited degree with 24 months, each within the past 10 years, plus 35 contact hours of PM education.

What is the passing score for the PMI-CP exam?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score that is not published as a fixed number. Results are reported as pass or fail with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement, so aim for broad mastery across all four domains.

What is the exam application process and how many attempts do I get?

Complete the four modules, meet an eligibility set, then apply online at pmi.org; PMI may audit the application. Once approved you have a one-year eligibility window with up to three attempts to pass the exam.

Does this training meet the 35 contact hours requirement?

The 32-hour instructor-led programme is close to but below the 35 contact hours of PM education required across all three eligibility sets. Check with our team whether supplementary self-study or pre-reading is credited toward the 35-hour requirement.

    Course Content

What will I learn in the PMI-CP course?

You will learn to manage construction contracts, variations and claims, engage owners, regulators and communities, define and control scope, schedule and cost, and govern projects for compliance, mapped to the four ECO domains and the four prerequisite modules.

Do I need to complete the four modules before the exam?

Yes. All four self-paced modules, Project Communications, Interface Management, Scope and Change Order Management, and Contract and Risk Management, are mandatory before applying. Each is a 6 to 10 hour commitment and can be completed in any order, awarding 56 PDUs in total.

Do I need prior experience to take the training?

Anyone can enrol in the training. To sit the PMI-CP exam, PMI requires construction project management experience within the past 10 years under one of three eligibility sets, along with completion of the four modules and 35 contact hours of PM education.

Is the courseware aligned with the current PMI-CP syllabus?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current PMI-CP Examination Content Outline and the current edition of the PMBOK Guide, so you prepare against the four domains and tasks PMI actually tests.

Are practice questions and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions and full-length mock exams mapped to the 120-question, 230-minute format, plus topic-wise quizzes to help you find weak areas and build exam readiness.
