What is the format of the PfMP exam?

The PfMP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the PfMP Examination Content Outline and the Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition. It uses scenario and situational questions across five performance domains.

How many questions are on the PfMP exam and how long is it?

The PfMP exam has 170 questions and a four-hour (240-minute) allotted time. It is delivered via Pearson VUE OnVUE online proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

What are the PfMP exam domains and their weights?

Five domains: Strategic Alignment (25%), Governance (20%), Portfolio Performance (25%), Portfolio Risk Management (14%), and Communications Management (16%). The exam is grounded in the 4th Edition of the Standard for Portfolio Management.

What is the passing score, and can I retake the exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed pass mark; results are set through psychometric analysis and reported by domain. You may take up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period, with reexamination fees for later attempts.

What is the PfMP panel review?

The panel review is a multi-rater assessment unique to PfMP. A panel of portfolio management practitioners evaluates your documented experience and competency. Both the panel review and the written exam must be passed to earn the credential.

What will I learn in the PfMP training?

You will learn the five PfMP performance domains: strategic alignment, governance, portfolio performance, portfolio risk management, and communications management, plus guidance on the PfMP application, panel review, and exam strategy.

Which standard is the courseware aligned to?

The courseware is aligned to PMI's Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition, and the current PfMP Examination Content Outline, so you prepare against the framework the exam is built on.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions, full-length mock exams, an exam simulator, and topic-wise quizzes to help you identify weak areas and build exam readiness across all five domains.

Do I get application and panel-review support?

Yes. The training includes guidance on documenting your portfolio experience for the PMI application and preparing for the subject-matter-expert panel review, alongside exam preparation.

Will I receive a certificate of completion?

Yes. After meeting the course requirements you receive a course completion certificate along with the contact hours earned through the programme.

What are the eligibility requirements for the PfMP exam?

PMI requires one of three sets: a secondary diploma with 84 months of portfolio experience, or a bachelor's degree with 48 months, or a GAC-accredited degree with 36 months. All sets require 120 months of business experience within the past 15 years, plus the panel review.
