What is the PgMP certification and who is it for?

PgMP (Program Management Professional) is PMI's advanced credential for professionals who manage multiple related projects as a coordinated programme to deliver strategic benefits. It suits programme managers, PMO heads, directors of delivery and senior practitioners with substantial programme experience.

Is PMP required before the PgMP?

No. An active PMP is not mandatory, but it satisfies the project management experience requirement across all three eligibility sets. PMP holders then only need to document their programme management experience for the PgMP application.

How long is the PgMP certification valid?

The PgMP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle, with at least 8 PDUs in each area, within each three-year continuing certification requirements (CCR) cycle.

Is the exam fee included in the training price?

No. PMI bills the PgMP exam fee separately in USD under regional pricing. For reference only, it is around USD 800 for PMI members and USD 1,000 for non-members; verify the current fee on pmi.org before applying.

What is the format of the PgMP exam?

The PgMP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the PgMP Examination Content Outline and The Standard for Program Management, Fourth Edition. It spans five performance domains and is delivered via Pearson VUE online proctoring or a test centre.

How many questions are on the exam and how long is it?

The exam has 170 questions and a four-hour allotted time. Results are reported as pass or fail with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement.

What are the PgMP exam domains and their weights?

Five domains: Strategic Program Management (11%), Program Life Cycle Management (44%), Benefits Management (11%), Stakeholder Engagement (16%) and Governance (18%). Program Life Cycle Management carries the heaviest weighting.

What is the PgMP panel review?

The panel review is a multi-rater assessment unique to the PgMP. A panel of programme management practitioners evaluates your documented experience. It is mandatory alongside the written exam, and both must be passed to earn the credential.

What happens if I do not pass the first time?

PMI permits up to three exam attempts within your one-year eligibility window. Re-examination fees apply to the second and third attempts. Our mock exams and trainer guidance are designed to build your readiness before you sit the exam.

Course Content

Do I need prior experience to benefit from this training?

Anyone can attend the training, but the PgMP is a senior credential. To sit the exam, PMI requires substantial project and programme management experience within the past 15 years. The course helps you consolidate that experience and prepare thoroughly.

What topics are covered in the PgMP training?

The training covers the five performance domains: Strategic Program Management, Program Life Cycle Management, Benefits Management, Stakeholder Engagement and Governance, plus application guidance, panel-review preparation and exam strategy.

Is the courseware aligned with the latest standard?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current PgMP Examination Content Outline and The Standard for Program Management, Fourth Edition, PMI's primary reference for programme management.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions and full-length mock exams mapped to the 170-question, four-hour format, plus topic-wise quizzes to help you identify and strengthen weak areas.

What are the PgMP eligibility requirements?

There are three sets. With a secondary diploma: 48 months of project management experience or an active PMP, plus 84 months of programme experience. With a four-year degree: the same PM requirement plus 48 months of programme experience. A GAC-accredited degree reduces the programme requirement to 36 months.
