    Do I need prior experience to attend?

    No. There are no prerequisites. Some familiarity with Lean or production operations helps for the manufacturing modules, but the course introduces every concept from first principles, so beginners and experienced professionals both benefit.

    Where did Kanban come from?

    Manufacturing Kanban was developed by Taiichi Ohno at Toyota in the 1950s as a pull production mechanism inspired by supermarket replenishment. Knowledge work Kanban was later formalised by David J. Anderson for software and IT teams. The word Kanban means signboard in Japanese.

    Assessment

    Is there an exam for the Kanban training?

    No. This is a non-certification course with no examination. Learning is reinforced through hands-on kanban design exercises, case examples and team discussion during the one-day programme, so you leave able to apply the method straight away.

    Do I receive a certificate after the training?

    You receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning. This is a record of attendance and participation in a practical skills programme, not a formal certification, as Kanban training has no awarding body or credential.

    How am I assessed during the course?

    There is no formal assessment. You practise through design exercises such as kanban quantity calculation, kanban loop design, Kanban board design, WIP-limit setting and reading a Cumulative Flow Diagram, applied to realistic manufacturing and service scenarios.

    Will I be able to apply Kanban at work afterwards?

    Yes. After the course you can design a pull system, size kanban loops and supermarkets, build a Kanban board with WIP limits and classes of service, measure lead time, cycle time and throughput, and interpret a Cumulative Flow Diagram to guide improvement.

    Does the skill expire or need renewal?

    No. Because there is no certification, there is nothing to renew. The skills you gain remain immediately applicable, and the Kanban method itself is designed to keep improving flow as you use it over time.

    Course Content

    What topics does the Kanban syllabus cover?

    The programme covers Kanban origins and pull production, manufacturing Kanban types and mechanics, kanban sizing and implementation, knowledge work Kanban boards and WIP limits, flow metrics and the Cumulative Flow Diagram, and implementing and sustaining Kanban across manufacturing and service settings.

    How long is the training and how is it structured?

    It is a one-day, eight-hour programme, also offered as two half-days, covering all six Kanban modules. Concept explanations, real manufacturing and knowledge work case examples, and hands-on design exercises run throughout the day.

    What are WIP limits and why do they matter?

    WIP limits cap how many items a workflow stage can hold at once. They are the defining feature of Kanban: when a stage is full, the team helps clear the bottleneck instead of starting new work. This stop starting, start finishing discipline cuts lead times and improves flow.

    What flow metrics will I learn to use?

    You will learn lead time, cycle time and throughput, and how they relate through Little's Law, which states that lead time equals work in progress divided by throughput. You will also learn to build and read a Cumulative Flow Diagram to spot bottlenecks and trends.

    Does the course cover Scrumban?

    Yes. The course explains Scrumban, which blends Kanban flow and WIP limits with the Scrum cadence and ceremonies. It is useful for teams moving from Scrum to flow-based delivery, or needing both iteration planning and continuous flow.
