Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

The PMI Construction Professional (PMI-CP) is PMI's specialist certification for construction. It validates applying project management across four domains: contracts management (50%), stakeholder engagement (30%), strategy and scope management (15%) and project governance (5%). It suits construction project managers, engineers and consultants.

    General

What is the PMI-CP certification and who is it for?

The PMI Construction Professional (PMI-CP) is PMI's specialist certification for construction. It validates applying project management across four domains: contracts management (50%), stakeholder engagement (30%), strategy and scope management (15%) and project governance (5%). It suits construction project managers, engineers and consultants.

Is the PMI-CP worth it for construction professionals in Seoul?

Yes. Seoul leads South Korea's construction market with GTX rail, semiconductor and data-centre megaprojects, and employers value professionals who can manage contracts and govern complex delivery. Construction project managers in Seoul average around ₩124M a year, and the PMI-CP helps you compete for these senior roles.

Is the PMI-CP recognised in South Korea?

Yes. As a PMI credential, the PMI-CP carries global recognition across PMI's network in over 200 countries. It is valued by Korean contractors, engineering firms and public agencies, as well as international employers running large construction programmes in Seoul and worldwide.

How is the PMI-CP different from the PMP?

The PMP is a broad project management credential covering all industries, while the PMI-CP specialises in construction. Its largest domain is Contracts Management at 50%, reflecting the central role of contract administration and disputes in construction delivery. The two credentials are complementary for construction professionals.

Do I need the PMP before taking the PMI-CP?

No. The PMP is not a prerequisite for the PMI-CP. You can apply directly based on your construction project management experience and education. Many professionals hold both, since the PMP validates general project management and the PMI-CP validates construction-specific expertise.

    Pricing

How much does PMI-CP training cost in Seoul?

PMI-CP training in Seoul varies by format and provider, and instructor-led and corporate options are priced differently. The training fee is separate from the PMI exam fee. For current pricing tailored to your format or team, request a quote or speak with a learning advisor.

What is included in the PMI-CP course fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware, instructor-led sessions, practice questions and mock exams for the 120-question format, guidance on the four prerequisite modules, application support and learner support. The PMI exam fee is billed separately.

Is the exam fee included in the training price?

No. PMI bills the PMI-CP exam fee separately in USD under regional pricing, and members pay less than non-members. Confirm the current exam and re-examination fees on pmi.org before you apply, as PMI updates its pricing periodically.

Do you offer corporate or group discounts for PMI-CP training?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for construction and engineering teams, PMOs and delivery groups in Seoul. Contact us for a tailored group quote.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, and offer instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you or your team.

    Exam

What is the format of the PMI-CP exam?

The PMI-CP exam is closed book with multiple-choice questions in single-answer and multiple-answer formats. It is based on the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline and aligned to the PMBOK Guide Eighth Edition, and it is delivered online through Pearson VUE OnVUE or at a test centre.

How many questions are on the PMI-CP exam and how long is it?

What are the PMI-CP exam domains and their weights?

There are four domains per the ECO: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%). Contracts Management is the largest, reflecting the commercial focus of construction delivery.

What is the passing score for the PMI-CP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed numeric pass mark. The passing score is set through psychometric analysis, and results are reported with domain-level feedback such as Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement. Aim for broad mastery across all four domains.

What happens if I do not pass, can I retake it?

Yes. PMI allows up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period from application approval. Re-examination fees apply to the second and third attempts; confirm the current amounts on pmi.org before rebooking.

You can take it online through Pearson VUE's OnVUE proctoring from home or office, or at a Pearson VUE test centre. Test centres are available in Seoul and other major cities, and scheduling is done through the Pearson VUE or PMI portal.

You learn contract administration, variations and claims, stakeholder and community engagement, scope, schedule, budget, risk, quality and governance across the construction lifecycle.

What are the four mandatory prerequisite modules?

Before applying, all candidates complete four self-paced PMI-CP modules in any order: Project Communications, Interface Management, Scope and Change Order Management, and Contract and Risk Management. Each is a 6 to 10 hour commitment and awards 14 PDUs, for 56 PDUs in total.

Does this training meet the 35 contact hours requirement?

The instructor-led programme provides 32 contact hours, which is close to but below the 35 contact hours of project management education PMI requires. Supplementary self-study or pre-reading can help meet the full requirement; confirm with our team how the hours are credited.

Which standard and edition is the course aligned to?

The course is built on the current PMI-CP Examination Content Outline and aligns with the PMBOK Guide 8th Edition. Courseware reflects construction project management principles and industry-specific standards referenced in the ECO.

Are practice questions and mock exams included?

What are the eligibility requirements for the PMI-CP?

You must complete the four prerequisite modules and meet one of three sets: a secondary diploma with 60 months of construction PM experience, a bachelor's degree with 36 months, or a GAC-accredited degree with 24 months. All sets require 35 contact hours of PM education, with experience from the past 10 years.
