What if I do not pass the PfMP exam the first time?

What is the format of the PfMP exam?

The PfMP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the PfMP Examination Content Outline and the Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition. It uses scenario and situational questions across the five performance domains.

How many questions are on the PfMP exam and how long is it?

The PfMP exam has 170 questions and an allotted time of four hours (240 minutes). It is delivered via Pearson VUE, either at a test centre or through OnVUE online proctoring.

What are the eligibility requirements for the PfMP exam?

You need 120 months (10 years) of business experience within the last 15 years, plus portfolio management experience: 84 months with a secondary diploma, or 48 months with a bachelor's degree (36 months from a GAC-accredited programme). All candidates also complete a panel review.

What is the passing score for the PfMP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed percentage pass mark. The result is determined through psychometric analysis of the scored questions and reported with domain-level feedback, so focus on broad mastery across all five performance domains.

Can I take PfMP training if I am new to portfolio-level work?

You can attend the training to build knowledge, but the PfMP exam itself requires substantial experience: 120 months of business experience plus portfolio management experience. The programme helps experienced leaders consolidate that experience and prepare for the exam and panel review.

What topics are covered in the PfMP training?

The training covers the five PfMP performance domains: Strategic Alignment (25%), Governance (20%), Portfolio Performance (25%), Portfolio Risk Management (14%) and Communications Management (16%), plus application preparation and exam strategy.

Which standard and edition is the courseware aligned to?

The courseware is aligned to PMI's Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition, and the current PfMP Examination Content Outline, so you study the same framework the exam is built on.

Are practice tests, mock exams and templates included?
