What Is Quality Function Deployment Training in Hong Kong?UntitledA Practical, Customer-Driven Skill

The Quality Function Deployment Training in Hong Kong from Invensis Learning is a one-day, practical programme that teaches you to turn the Voice of the Customer into clear design and engineering decisions. Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is a structured, customer-driven method, developed in Japan by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno and first applied at Mitsubishi's Kobe Shipyard in 1972, that translates what customers want into measurable product and service characteristics. At its core sits the House of Quality, the planning matrix that links customer requirements to engineering characteristics, exposes design trade-offs, and sets clear targets. Across the day you learn to capture and structure customer needs, build and interpret the House of Quality, and cascade QFD through product planning, parts deployment, process planning and production planning. The course suits product designers, design and quality engineers, product managers, R&D professionals and Six Sigma practitioners across Hong Kong's electronics, advanced manufacturing, healthcare and product design sectors. There is no examination; you leave able to apply QFD immediately, and receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning.

Yes. QFD gives product designers, engineers and quality professionals a practical way to design around real customer needs, a skill in growing demand as Hong Kong expands smart manufacturing and new product development. You leave able to run a House of Quality and set customer-linked design targets from day one.

The course suits product designers, design and quality engineers, product managers, R&D professionals, and Six Sigma Green Belt and Black Belt practitioners. It is also valuable for service, healthcare and software professionals who need to translate customer requirements into design or delivery specifications.

No. The QFD training has no prerequisites and introduces every concept from first principles. Familiarity with product development or quality management helps but is not required, making the course accessible to newcomers and experienced practitioners alike.

No. While QFD began in manufacturing, it applies to services, healthcare, financial services and software too. Anywhere customer requirements must become design or delivery specifications, the House of Quality method works.

    General

What is Quality Function Deployment (QFD)?

Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is a structured, customer-driven method for translating the Voice of the Customer into specific technical and engineering characteristics across product and service development. It was developed in Japan by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno and first applied at Mitsubishi's Kobe Shipyard in 1972. Its central tool is the House of Quality matrix.

Is the QFD training worth it for professionals in Hong Kong?

Yes. QFD gives product designers, engineers and quality professionals a practical way to design around real customer needs, a skill in growing demand as Hong Kong expands smart manufacturing and new product development. You leave able to run a House of Quality and set customer-linked design targets from day one.

Who should attend the QFD training?

The course suits product designers, design and quality engineers, product managers, R&D professionals, and Six Sigma Green Belt and Black Belt practitioners. It is also valuable for service, healthcare and software professionals who need to translate customer requirements into design or delivery specifications.

Do I need prior experience to take this course?

No. The QFD training has no prerequisites and introduces every concept from first principles. Familiarity with product development or quality management helps but is not required, making the course accessible to newcomers and experienced practitioners alike.

    Is QFD only for manufacturing?

No. While QFD began in manufacturing, it applies to services, healthcare, financial services and software too. Anywhere customer requirements must become design or delivery specifications, the House of Quality method works.

    Pricing

How much does the QFD training cost in Hong Kong?

Pricing varies by delivery mode, group size and format, so course fees are available on request. Contact Invensis Learning for current pricing and upcoming schedules, or ask about group rates for your team.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee typically covers instructor-led training across all six QFD modules, hands-on House of Quality exercises, courseware and learning resources, and a course completion record from Invensis Learning. Request a quote for a full breakdown.

Do you offer corporate or group pricing?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for product, engineering and quality teams. Contact us for a tailored quote for your organisation in Hong Kong.

Are there discounts for team enrolment?

Group and corporate rates are available and depend on team size and delivery format. Talk to a learning advisor about the best option for your team.

In what currency is the training billed?

Training for learners in Hong Kong is typically quoted locally. Exact fees depend on the delivery mode and are available on request, so reach out for current pricing.

    Assessment

Is there an exam for the QFD training?

No. QFD is a non-certification skills course with no examination. Learning is reinforced through hands-on House of Quality construction exercises, case studies and team discussion during the one-day programme.

Do I receive a certificate after the course?

You receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning after completing the one-day programme. No formal credential is awarded by an external body, as QFD is a practical skills course rather than an accredited qualification.

How am I assessed during the training?

There is no formal assessment. You practise by building and interpreting a House of Quality from a realistic scenario, classifying requirements with the Kano model, and calculating design priorities, so you apply the tools as you learn them.

How long is the QFD training?

The course runs for one day, about eight hours, covering QFD foundations, the Voice of the Customer, full House of Quality construction, interpretation, four-phase cascading, and QFD in DFSS, DMAIC and service design.

Will the skills expire or need renewal?

No. QFD skills do not expire and need no renewal. Once you can capture customer needs and build a House of Quality, the methods stay immediately applicable to your product and service work.

    Course Content

What will I learn in the QFD course?

You will learn to capture and structure the Voice of the Customer, build and interpret the House of Quality, resolve design trade-offs with the correlation roof, prioritise engineering characteristics, and cascade QFD through product planning, parts deployment, process planning and production planning.

What is the House of Quality?

The House of Quality is the central QFD planning matrix. It links customer requirements (the WHATs) to engineering characteristics (the HOWs), rates their relationships, benchmarks against competitors, exposes design conflicts, and sets measurable engineering targets.

Does the course cover the Kano model and Voice of the Customer?

Yes. The course covers VOC data collection, customer segmentation, the affinity diagram, and the Kano model for classifying must-be, performance and delighter requirements, all as inputs to the House of Quality.

    Are there hands-on exercises?

Yes. You build a full House of Quality from a realistic product or service scenario, classify requirements, calculate column importance, and identify design hot spots, so learning is practical rather than theoretical.

Does QFD connect to Six Sigma and DFSS?

Yes. The course shows how QFD works within Design for Six Sigma (the DMADV Measure phase) and DMAIC (the Define phase), translating the Voice of the Customer into CTQs and engineering requirements.

    Enrollment

How do I enrol in the QFD training?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website. Choose your preferred format, complete your booking, and you receive access to schedules, courseware and learning resources. Talk to a learning advisor if you need help choosing.

    What training formats are available?

The course is available as online (live virtual) instructor-led training, in-person classroom training, and customised corporate onsite sessions, so you can choose the format that fits your schedule in Hong Kong.

Can I arrange onsite training for my team?

Yes. We deliver QFD onsite for organisations in Hong Kong, so teams can build a House of Quality for one of their own products. Contact us to arrange a corporate session.

    When can I start?

New sessions run regularly in live virtual and classroom formats. See upcoming schedules or speak with a learning advisor to find the next available date that suits you.
