Why Spanish Employers Need QFD Skills Now

Voice of the Customer Gets Lost

In many Spanish product teams, customer needs are diluted in the handoff from marketing to engineering. QFD gives a structured way to capture and keep the Voice of the Customer visible throughout design.

QFD keeps customer needs visible in design

    Costly Late-Stage Design Changes

Design conflicts often surface during expensive prototype testing. The House of Quality correlation roof reveals trade-offs early, so teams resolve them on paper rather than on the production line.

    QFD reveals trade-offs before prototyping

    Rising Quality and Compliance Pressure

IATF 16949 and ISO 9001 audits demand traceability from customer requirement to process control. QFD provides the documented cascade that Spanish automotive and supplier audits expect.

    QFD builds traceable design evidence

    The EV and Digital Transition

Spain's shift to electric and connected vehicles is reshaping product requirements fast. QFD helps engineering teams re-prioritise design characteristics around new customer and regulatory needs.

    QFD helps re-prioritise design characteristics

    Scarce Customer-To-Design Skills

Spain has deep engineering talent but few professionals trained in structured customer-driven design. QFD practitioners who can run a House of Quality workshop stand out to employers.

    Export-Led Quality Expectations

With automotive a large share of Spanish exports, manufacturers compete on world-class quality. QFD builds quality into products from the first requirement, protecting brand and margin.

Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is a structured, customer-driven methodology that translates the Voice of the Customer into measurable design and engineering characteristics using the House of Quality matrix. Developed in Japan by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno, it is widely used across product and service development.

QFD training suits design engineers, quality engineers, product managers, R&D professionals, marketing professionals and Six Sigma practitioners. It is valuable for anyone in Spain's automotive, aerospace, appliance or medical device sectors who translates customer needs into product or service specifications.

Yes. QFD is a practical, immediately applicable skill that helps you design products customers actually want, reducing rework and late changes. In Spain, quality and product-development roles that use these skills, such as Quality Engineer, pay well above the national average.

No prior experience is required. The course introduces QFD and the House of Quality from first principles. Familiarity with product development or quality management is helpful but not essential, so both beginners and experienced professionals benefit.

QFD is a core tool in Design for Six Sigma (DMADV Measure phase) and the DMAIC Define phase, and it supports the customer-focus and design-control clauses of ISO 9001:2015. It gives Six Sigma and quality professionals a structured way to translate customer needs into requirements.

    General

What is Quality Function Deployment (QFD)?

Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is a structured, customer-driven methodology that translates the Voice of the Customer into measurable design and engineering characteristics using the House of Quality matrix. Developed in Japan by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno, it is widely used across product and service development.

Who should take QFD training in Spain?

QFD training suits design engineers, quality engineers, product managers, R&D professionals, marketing professionals and Six Sigma practitioners. It is valuable for anyone in Spain's automotive, aerospace, appliance or medical device sectors who translates customer needs into product or service specifications.

    Is QFD training worth it?

Yes. QFD is a practical, immediately applicable skill that helps you design products customers actually want, reducing rework and late changes. In Spain, quality and product-development roles that use these skills, such as Quality Engineer, pay well above the national average.

Do I need prior experience to learn QFD?

No prior experience is required. The course introduces QFD and the House of Quality from first principles. Familiarity with product development or quality management is helpful but not essential, so both beginners and experienced professionals benefit.

How does QFD relate to Six Sigma and ISO 9001?

QFD is a core tool in Design for Six Sigma (DMADV Measure phase) and the DMAIC Define phase, and it supports the customer-focus and design-control clauses of ISO 9001:2015. It gives Six Sigma and quality professionals a structured way to translate customer needs into requirements.

    Pricing

How much does QFD training cost in Spain?

QFD training fees in Spain vary by delivery format, group size and whether you choose live virtual, classroom or corporate group training. Pricing is available on request. Contact a learning advisor for a tailored quote for individual or team training.

What is included in the QFD course fee?

The fee typically includes instructor-led training across all six QFD modules, hands-on House of Quality exercises, learning materials and templates, learner support, and a course completion record from Invensis Learning. Request a quote for full inclusions.

Do you offer group or corporate pricing?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with volume-based pricing and customised schedules for product, engineering and quality teams across Spain. Ask about corporate and group pricing for a tailored quote for your team.

Are there instalment or payment options?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, and offer instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the payment option that suits you.

Is the price the same for online and classroom training?

Pricing can differ between live virtual, classroom, onsite and corporate group formats. Live virtual (online) training is often the most flexible option. Request a quote to compare formats for your needs.

    Assessment

    Is QFD training assessed?

QFD training is not formally assessed. Instead, you learn by building and interpreting your own House of Quality through hands-on exercises and team activities, so you can apply the method immediately at work.

What do I receive after completing QFD training?

You receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning. QFD is a practical skills programme, so there is no formal credential or awarding body; the value is in the capability you gain and can apply straight away.

Does QFD training award a formal qualification?

No. QFD is a vendor-neutral methodology with no single governing body, so the training does not award a formal qualification. It builds practical skills that employers in Spanish manufacturing and product development value.

How will I know I can apply QFD after the course?

During the one-day programme you personally build a House of Quality from a realistic scenario, capture the Voice of the Customer and set engineering targets, so you leave with proven, hands-on ability to run QFD.

Can QFD skills support Design for Six Sigma projects?

Yes. QFD is the central tool of the DMADV Measure phase and supports the DMAIC Define phase, so your skills apply directly to Design for Six Sigma and continuous-improvement work in your organisation.

    Course Content

What topics does the QFD course cover?

The course covers QFD principles and origins, Voice of the Customer capture with affinity diagrams and the Kano model, full House of Quality construction across its six rooms, HoQ interpretation, four-phase QFD cascading, and QFD in Design for Six Sigma, DMAIC and service design.

What is the House of Quality?

The House of Quality is the central QFD matrix that links customer requirements (the WHATs) to measurable engineering characteristics (the HOWs), with a relationship matrix, a correlation roof for trade-offs, competitive benchmarking and engineering targets. You build one during the course.

    How long is QFD training?

The programme runs for one day (eight hours) and can also be delivered as two half-day sessions. It covers all six QFD modules with concept explanations, real-world examples and hands-on House of Quality exercises throughout.

Does the course cover QFD for services and software?

Yes. Although QFD began in manufacturing, the course covers applications in services such as healthcare and financial services, and in software, alongside product development, because the customer-to-design translation applies to any sector.

Are there hands-on exercises in the course?

Yes. You practise structuring the Voice of the Customer with affinity diagrams, classify needs with the Kano model, build a full House of Quality, calculate column importance and identify design conflicts, all through guided exercises.
