The Operational Pressures Driving Demand for VSM in Colombia

    Waste Hidden Between Process Steps

Colombian plants often measure output department by department, so waiting, inventory and rework between steps stay invisible. Value stream mapping makes the full flow visible so teams can act on it.

VSM reveals waste that reports hide

Long Lead Times and Excess Inventory

Rising demand in food, beverage and consumer goods exposes long lead times and stockpiles. Mapping the value stream shows exactly where inventory and delay build up so they can be reduced.

VSM pinpoints where flow breaks down

    Nearshoring Raises the Productivity Bar

As nearshoring brings new manufacturing to Colombia, plants must match global cost and delivery standards. Designing leaner flow with current and future-state maps is central to competing.

VSM builds Lean flow design skills

    Scarce Continuous Improvement Talent

Employers report a shortage of people who can facilitate Lean mapping and lead improvement. A practical VSM skill sets candidates apart in a market deep in general operations experience.

VSM makes your profile stand out

    Logistics Complexity at Scale

A freight and logistics market worth USD 23.55 billion in 2026 demands leaner flow across warehouses and distribution. Mapping information and material flow together exposes the real constraints.

VSM streamlines material and information flow

    Improvement Effort Spread Too Thin

Teams launch many Kaizen events with little focus and modest results. A value stream map provides the shared diagnosis that points every improvement effort at the single biggest bottleneck first.

    VSM prioritises the highest-impact fix

Is Value Stream Mapping useful across industries in Colombia?

Yes. VSM is applied well beyond the factory floor, in food and beverage production, automotive, logistics and distribution, pharmaceuticals, healthcare pathways and back-office services. Any process with an end-to-end flow can be mapped and improved.

What standard is the training based on?

The course is grounded in Lean management and the Toyota Production System. It follows the standard VSM approach popularised by Mike Rother and John Shook in Learning to See (1998), using the standard symbol set. There is no separate governing body for the technique itself.

    Pricing

How much does Value Stream Mapping training cost in Colombia?

Pricing varies by delivery mode (live virtual, classroom or corporate onsite) and group size, so the fee is available on request. Talk to a learning advisor or request a quote for current pricing and upcoming batches.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee typically covers instructor-led training across all six VSM modules, structured courseware, hands-on current-state and future-state mapping exercises, learner support, and a course completion record from Invensis Learning.

Do you offer corporate or group pricing?

Yes. We offer corporate and group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for teams and departments. It is especially effective as you can map a real value stream from your own operation. Ask about group pricing for your team.

Are instalment or payment options available?

Yes. We accept major cards and bank transfers, and instalment options are available on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

Is there any exam or certification fee?

No. This is a non-certification skills course with no exam, so there is no exam fee or external awarding-body charge. Your fee covers the training, materials and course completion record only.

    Assessment

Is there an exam for the Value Stream Mapping course?

No. Value Stream Mapping training is a non-certification course with no exam. Your learning is reinforced through hands-on mapping exercises and group discussion during the one-day programme.

Will I receive a certificate after the training?

You receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning after completing the programme. This is a record of attendance and learning, not a formal certification, as the VSM technique has no external awarding body.

How is learning assessed during the course?

Learning is practised, not formally tested. You build both a current-state and a future-state map for a realistic scenario, take part in group activities, and get trainer feedback throughout the day.

Is any external credential or governing body involved?

No. VSM is an established Lean technique with no certifying body or credential. The training builds practical skills grounded in Lean management and the Toyota Production System that you apply directly at work.

How long does the training take?

The programme runs for one day (8 hours) and covers Lean foundations, VSM symbols, current-state mapping, analysis, future-state design, and implementation planning, with hands-on exercises throughout.

    Course Content

What will I learn in the Value Stream Mapping course?

You will learn to build current-state and future-state maps, apply the standard VSM symbols, identify the eight wastes, calculate takt time, find the bottleneck, and turn your analysis into an implementation and Kaizen plan.

What topics or modules are covered?

The course covers six areas: Lean foundations and VSM basics, standard symbols and notation, creating the current-state map, analysing it, designing the future-state map, and implementation planning to sustain improvement.

    Are there hands-on exercises?

Yes. You practise throughout the day, creating both a current-state and a future-state map for a realistic operational scenario, so you leave able to facilitate a mapping session for your own team.

Which VSM symbols and concepts are taught?

You learn the standard symbol set (process boxes, material and information flow, inventory triangles, kanban and Kaizen bursts) plus core concepts such as value-added versus non-value-added activity, takt time, cycle time, lead time, and push versus pull.

Can a beginner take this course?

Yes. The course is beginner-friendly and introduces all the Lean concepts you need. It suits anyone in an operational or improvement role, from analysts and engineers to managers, regardless of prior training.
