Market Pressures Making QFD Skills Valuable in Colombia

    Nearshoring Raises the Quality Bar

As Colombia grows as a nearshore manufacturing and services hub, global clients expect design that reliably meets their specifications, the exact discipline QFD provides.

    QFD builds customer-driven design skills

    Automotive Design Complexity

Rapid EV growth and APQP demands from assemblers and 600-plus parts suppliers require a structured way to turn customer and regulatory needs into engineering specifications.

    QFD builds requirement-translation skills

    Consumer Goods Competition

Food, beverage and personal-care producers competing across Latin America must design products around genuine customer needs to win and keep market share.

QFD builds Voice of the Customer skills

    Product Launch Failure Risk

Many products fail because teams build what they assume customers want rather than what they need. QFD makes those requirements visible and traceable through design.

    QFD closes the customer-to-design gap

    Design-Quality Talent Shortage

Colombian employers value professionals who can operationalise the Voice of the Customer and build a House of Quality, a skill still scarce versus general engineering.

QFD skills help you stand out

    Cost and Rework Pressure

Margin pressure pushes firms to cut late design changes and warranty costs. QFD helps teams resolve trade-offs early and get requirements right the first time.

    Your Colombia Skills Transformation

Your Design Approach, Before and After

    What Changes with QFD

Colombia's manufacturers, exporters and service firms increasingly separate teams that design around the customer from those that design on assumption. Here is which side of that line QFD skills put you on.

    Today

Seen mainly as a delivery or execution contributor

    After QFD

Recognised as a customer-driven design contributor on cross-functional teams

    Today

Competing for product and design roles without a standout method

    After QFD

Product design engineer roles in Colombia average around COP 92M a year

    Today

Rework and late changes stretch your project timelines

    After QFD

Fewer iterations as requirements are locked to customer needs early

    You apply QFD

    Before

You rely on intuition and assumptions about what customers want

    Now you have

You capture and structure the Voice of the Customer systematically

    Before

Design priorities argued by opinion and seniority

    Now you have

Priorities set by weighted customer importance in the House of Quality

    Before

Engineering trade-offs surface late, during costly prototyping

    Now you have

You spot and resolve trade-offs early using the correlation roof

    Before

Skills tied to one sector or a single product line

    Now you have

A transferable method you can apply across products, services and software

"Teams do not fail at design because they cannot build. They fail because they build what they assume customers want. QFD closes that gap."

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

Quality Function Deployment is a structured, customer-driven method for translating the Voice of the Customer into specific technical and engineering characteristics across product and service development. Its central tool is the House of Quality matrix, which links what customers want to how a design will deliver it.

    General

What is Quality Function Deployment (QFD)?

Quality Function Deployment is a structured, customer-driven method for translating the Voice of the Customer into specific technical and engineering characteristics across product and service development. Its central tool is the House of Quality matrix, which links what customers want to how a design will deliver it.

Is the QFD training worth it for my career?

Yes. QFD gives you a practical, transferable skill that Colombian manufacturers, exporters and service firms increasingly value: turning customer requirements into design specifications. It is directly useful in product development, quality engineering, service design and Six Sigma projects, and applies across many sectors.

Who should take the QFD training?

The course suits product designers and design engineers, quality engineers, product managers, marketing and R&D professionals, NPD project managers, and Six Sigma Green Belt and Black Belt practitioners. Anyone who needs to translate customer requirements into product or service specifications will benefit.

Do I need prior experience to learn QFD?

No. There are no formal prerequisites and the course introduces QFD and the House of Quality from first principles. Familiarity with product development or quality management is helpful but not required, so beginners and experienced professionals can both take part.

Is QFD used for both products and services?

Yes. QFD began in manufacturing but the House of Quality applies anywhere customer requirements must become design or delivery specifications. The course covers product development plus service, software and healthcare applications, so the method fits both product and service teams.

    Pricing

How much does the QFD training cost in Colombia?

Pricing varies by delivery mode, group size and whether the training is public or corporate. For current fees and available dates, the best step is to request a quote so we can tailor it to your needs. Talk to a learning advisor for a figure that fits your plan.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee covers instructor-led delivery of all six QFD modules, hands-on House of Quality exercises, structured courseware and learning resources, and a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning. Request a quote for the full inclusions that apply to your chosen format.

Do you offer group or corporate pricing?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with schedules and content tailored to your team, plus volume-based pricing for product, quality and engineering groups. Contact us for a group quote for your team in Colombia.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, and can discuss options for corporate enrolments. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the approach that suits you or your organisation.

Is there a discount for enrolling a whole team?

Team and corporate enrolments are priced by group size and delivery mode, and are often more cost effective per learner than individual seats. Ask about corporate or group pricing and we will prepare a tailored quote.

    Assessment

Is there an exam for the QFD training?

No. This is a non-certification skills course with no examination. Learning is reinforced through hands-on House of Quality construction exercises, case studies and team discussion during the programme, so you practise the method rather than sit a test.

Do I receive a certificate after the training?

Yes. You receive a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning once you complete the programme. It records your training in the QFD method; it is a completion record, not a formal certification awarded by an external body.

How long is the QFD training?

The course is delivered in one day, around 8 hours, covering QFD foundations, the Voice of the Customer, the full House of Quality, matrix interpretation, four-phase QFD cascading, and QFD in Six Sigma and services, with hands-on exercises throughout.

How is my learning assessed during the course?

There is no formal assessment. Instead, you build and interpret real House of Quality matrices through practical exercises and team activities, which lets you confirm your understanding by applying the method during the training itself.

What will I be able to do after completing the training?

You will be able to capture and structure the Voice of the Customer, build a complete House of Quality, calculate column importance, resolve design conflicts using the roof, cascade QFD through parts and process planning, and apply QFD within DFSS and DMAIC projects.

    Course Content

What will I learn in the QFD training?

You will learn to translate customer requirements into design specifications using the House of Quality. The course covers QFD principles and origins, Voice of the Customer capture, the Kano model, the six rooms of the House of Quality, matrix interpretation, four-phase cascading, and QFD in Six Sigma and services.

What is the House of Quality?

The House of Quality is the central QFD planning matrix. It links customer requirements to measurable engineering characteristics, assesses the strength of each relationship, uses a correlation roof to reveal design conflicts, benchmarks competitors and sets engineering targets, all anchored to customer priorities.

Does the course cover the Voice of the Customer and Kano model?

Yes. A full module covers capturing and structuring the Voice of the Customer using interviews, observation, surveys and the affinity diagram, and classifying requirements with the Kano model into must-be, performance and delighter needs to guide design investment.

Does the training include hands-on exercises?

Yes. You build a complete House of Quality from a realistic product or service scenario, structure the Voice of the Customer with an affinity diagram, run a Kano classification, calculate column importance, and identify design hot spots, so you practise the method throughout the day.

Is the course content relevant to Six Sigma projects?

Yes. QFD is a core tool in Design for Six Sigma (the DMADV Measure phase) and is used in DMAIC (the Define phase) to translate the Voice of the Customer into critical-to-quality requirements. The course shows how to apply QFD directly within both.
