What is the PfMP certification and who is it for?

Is the PfMP worth it for professionals in Muscat?

Yes. As Oman advances Vision 2040 and its 11th Five-Year Plan, employers increasingly reward leaders who can govern portfolios and link investment to strategy. Portfolio Manager roles average around OMR 27,380 a year, with Head of PMO and PMO Director bands higher still.

Is the PfMP recognised by employers in Oman?

Yes. The PfMP is a globally recognised PMI credential valued across Oman and worldwide, including energy, banking, government, logistics and infrastructure organisations that run large, strategy-critical portfolios.

Do I need PMP or PgMP before the PfMP?

No. Neither PMP nor PgMP is a mandatory prerequisite for the PfMP. Eligibility is based on business and portfolio management experience rather than prior PMI certifications, though many senior portfolio leaders hold one or both.

How long is the PfMP certification valid?

The PfMP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle within each three-year continuing certification requirements (CCR) cycle.

What is the format of the PfMP exam?

The PfMP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the PfMP Examination Content Outline and the Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition. It uses scenario and situational questions across the five performance domains.

How many questions are on the PfMP exam and how long is it?

The PfMP exam has 170 questions and an allotted time of four hours (240 minutes). It is delivered via Pearson VUE, either online proctored or at a test centre.

What is the passing score for the PfMP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed percentage pass mark. Results are determined through psychometric analysis and reported as pass or fail with domain-level feedback, so focus on broad mastery across all five domains.

What is the PfMP panel review?

The panel review is a multi-rater assessment unique to the PfMP. A panel of portfolio management practitioners evaluates your documented experience and competency. Both the panel review and the written exam must be passed to earn the credential.

Can I retake the PfMP exam if I do not pass?

Yes. PMI allows up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period. Re-examination fees apply to the second and third attempts; confirm the current amounts on the PMI store.

Where can I sit the PfMP exam in Oman?

You can take the exam through Pearson VUE OnVUE online proctoring from home or office, or at a Pearson VUE test centre. Schedule it within your one-year eligibility period once your application and panel review are complete.

What topics does the PfMP training cover?

The training covers the five PfMP performance domains: Strategic Alignment (25%), Governance (20%), Portfolio Performance (25%), Portfolio Risk Management (14%) and Communications Management (16%), plus application, panel-review and exam strategy.

Which standard and edition is the course based on?

The courseware is aligned to PMI's Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition, and the current PfMP Examination Content Outline (ECO), which together form the foundation of the exam.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes 1000+ practice questions, full-length mock exams, an exam simulator and topic-wise quizzes to help you identify weak areas and build exam readiness.

Can I get help with the PfMP application?

Yes. The training includes guidance on documenting your business and portfolio management experience for the PMI application and on preparing for the subject-matter-expert panel review.

Will I receive a certificate after the training?

Yes. After meeting the course requirements you receive a course completion certificate along with the contact hours earned through the programme, which support your PfMP preparation.

What are the eligibility requirements for the PfMP?

Anyone can join the training. To sit the exam, PMI requires a secondary or bachelor's degree, 120 months (10 years) of professional business experience within the last 15 years, several years of portfolio management experience, and a panel review.

How do I enrol in the PfMP course in Muscat?
