What Is Six Sigma Awareness Training?UntitledA Practical Introduction for Every Team

Six Sigma Awareness Training in Namibia is a one-day, non-certification course that introduces the Six Sigma methodology, the DMAIC improvement roadmap and the everyday quality language used in process improvement projects. It is built for employees, supervisors and leaders who work alongside Six Sigma practitioners but do not need to become Green Belts or Black Belts. Six Sigma is a data-driven approach to reducing process variation and eliminating defects, first developed at Motorola in the 1980s and made globally famous by GE under Jack Welch in the 1990s. In a single day you learn what Six Sigma is, why organisations use it, and how the five DMAIC phases (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control) drive measurable improvement toward the Six Sigma goal of fewer than 3.4 defects per million opportunities. Across Namibia's mining, seafood, food and beverage, banking and logistics sectors, employers increasingly expect staff to understand quality and continuous improvement. This awareness course gives your whole team a common vocabulary so they can contribute to and support Six Sigma projects with confidence. Where Six Sigma Skills Lead in NamibiaRoles, Sectors and Demand

Process improvement skills are increasingly valued across Namibia's economy, from the mines and processing plants of the Erongo region to banks and logistics operators in Windhoek and Walvis Bay. Mining alone contributes around 10 percent of national GDP, and operators such as Namdeb and Rossing already apply Lean Six Sigma to lift plant performance. As employers push for lower cost, higher quality and reliable export standards, staff who understand Six Sigma, the focus of Six Sigma Awareness training, and can support improvement projects stand out. Here is what the market is telling us right now.

    • —Logistics, Ports and Supply Chain
    • —Telecommunications and Utilities

    • —Cost-per-tonne discipline across mining driving operational excellence
    • —Export quality standards pushing consistency in fish and meat processing
    • —Banks and telecoms improving service reliability and turnaround

The Process Challenges Driving Demand in Namibia

    Cost Pressure Across Mining

With mining driving around 10 percent of GDP, operators face constant pressure to cut cost per tonne. Reducing process variation and rework is exactly where Six Sigma thinking helps teams contribute.

Six Sigma builds variation and defect reduction thinking

    Export Quality Consistency

Fish, beef and food producers must meet strict export standards for EU and regional markets. Consistent, defect-free output depends on staff who understand quality and process control.

Six Sigma builds Critical to Quality awareness

Service Reliability in Banking and Telecoms

Banks and telecoms in Namibia compete on turnaround, accuracy and customer experience. Improving these service processes calls for people who grasp the DMAIC approach to problem solving.

Six Sigma builds process improvement awareness

    Logistics Efficiency at Walvis Bay

As a gateway port for the region, Walvis Bay demands accuracy, on-time handling and low error rates. Lean Six Sigma tools help logistics teams find and fix the causes of delay.

Six Sigma builds flow and accuracy awareness

    Scarce Improvement Skills

Namibia has few structured process improvement practitioners. Awareness training spreads the vocabulary and mindset widely, so more staff can support quality and continuous improvement work.

Six Sigma awareness widens the talent pool

    From Inspection to Prevention

Many organisations still rely on inspecting output rather than controlling the process. Six Sigma awareness shifts teams toward preventing defects using data rather than opinion.

Six Sigma builds a data-driven culture

There is no formal assessment. Instead, interactive discussions and team exercises throughout the day let you apply Six Sigma concepts to your own work context, reinforcing understanding as you go.

What can I do after completing the training?

You will be able to explain what Six Sigma is, use its vocabulary confidently, understand the five DMAIC phases, recognise the Six Sigma roles, and participate effectively in improvement projects. It is also an ideal foundation for Yellow Belt or Green Belt learning.

    Course Content

What topics does the training cover?

The one-day programme covers six modules: Six Sigma history and philosophy, key concepts and terminology, the DMAIC methodology, Six Sigma roles and structure, core tools at awareness level, and Lean Six Sigma in practice, with case examples throughout.

What are the five DMAIC phases?

DMAIC stands for Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control. It is the structured Six Sigma roadmap for improving existing processes, with defined tools and a tollgate review at each phase to keep decisions grounded in data.

How long is the training and how is it delivered?

The course runs for one day (eight hours) and is available in live virtual (online), classroom and corporate onsite formats. This makes it easy to fit around operational and shift schedules across Namibia.

Which tools will I learn about?

At awareness level you will recognise SIPOC, fishbone (Ishikawa) diagrams, Pareto charts, control charts, process capability and measurement system analysis. The focus is understanding what each tool does and why, not practitioner-level application.

Is prior quality knowledge needed to follow the content?

No. The content assumes no background in quality or statistics. Concepts such as variation, DPMO and Critical to Quality are explained from first principles with practical examples anyone can follow.

    Enrollment

How do I enrol in the course?

You can enrol through Invensis Learning by choosing your preferred format and completing your booking. You will then receive joining details, schedules and access to your learning resources. Talk to a learning advisor to get started.

    What training formats are available?

We offer live virtual (online) instructor-led training, classroom sessions and customised corporate onsite delivery. Choose the format that best fits your schedule or your team's needs in Windhoek, Walvis Bay or elsewhere in Namibia. If you prefer to learn remotely, you can join the Six Sigma Awareness course online through our live virtual sessions.

Can this be delivered onsite for my organisation?

Yes. The course is frequently delivered onsite to large employee groups as the first step in a Six Sigma or Lean Six Sigma deployment. Corporate delivery gives everyone a shared vocabulary at once. Ask about corporate and group options.

    How soon can I start?

Public sessions run on a regular schedule and corporate onsite dates can be arranged around your availability. Contact a learning advisor to see upcoming batches and confirm the next convenient date for you or your team.

    Can I reschedule my booking?

Yes. Flexible rescheduling options are available so you can move to another suitable batch if your plans change. Contact our support team to arrange this for your enrolment.
