What Is Quality Function Deployment Training in Namibia?UntitledCustomer-Driven Design, Made Practical

Quality Function Deployment (QFD) Training is a practical, one-day skills programme that teaches you to translate the Voice of the Customer into measurable design and engineering characteristics using the House of Quality matrix. Developed in Japan by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno, QFD is a customer-driven planning method used across product development, automotive, food processing, healthcare and service design. This Quality Function Deployment training in Namibia suits product designers, quality engineers, product managers, R&D staff and Six Sigma practitioners who want customer requirements to drive every design decision. Over eight hands-on hours you build and interpret a House of Quality, weigh design trade-offs using the correlation roof, and cascade requirements through the four QFD phases of product planning, parts deployment, process planning and production planning. It is hands-on skills training with no formal assessment, so you leave able to run Voice of the Customer and House of Quality workshops straight away, backed by a course completion record from Invensis Learning.

Why QFD Skills Are Worth ItReal Value on the Job

    For Individuals

    For Individuals

QFD training helps you close the gap between what customers want and what engineers design. You learn a structured, repeatable way to capture the Voice of the Customer, translate it into engineering characteristics, and make design priorities visible to your whole team. Whether you work in manufacturing, food and beverage processing, fishing, mining services or a service business in Namibia, these skills apply directly to how you plan and improve products and processes.

If you want customer requirements to genuinely shape your designs rather than getting lost in handoffs, QFD gives you the tools to make it happen. You leave able to run a Voice of the Customer session, build a House of Quality, and cascade requirements from product planning through to production controls.

    • Turn vague customer feedback into clear, measurable design requirements
    • Build and interpret a full House of Quality with confidence
    • Reduce costly late-stage design changes and rework
    • Prioritise design effort on the features customers value most
    • Apply QFD within Design for Six Sigma and DMAIC improvement work
    • Strengthen your profile for quality, design and product roles
    • Bring a proven, globally used method to product and service design
    • Contribute with authority in cross-functional development teams
    For Organizations

    For Organizations

QFD group training helps organisations design quality in from the start rather than inspecting it in later. Sending a cross-functional team, including designers, engineers, quality, marketing and manufacturing, means the House of Quality is built with input from every function. For Namibian manufacturers, processors and service providers pursuing local value addition and export-ready quality, this creates a shared language for turning customer requirements into design and process decisions.

If new products arrive late, over budget or misaligned with what customers need, QFD gives your teams a structured method to fix it. They learn to prioritise the vital few characteristics, surface design conflicts early, and trace every production control back to a customer requirement.

    • Standardise how teams translate customer needs into specifications
    • Cut development iterations and speed up time to market
    • Improve customer satisfaction by designing to real requirements
    • Align marketing, engineering and quality around one shared matrix
    • Reduce warranty and rework costs through stronger upfront design
    • Build a repeatable QFD approach across product and service lines
    • Upskill cross-functional teams together on your own products
    • Embed customer-driven design into your NPD stage-gate process

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

Quality Function Deployment is a customer-driven planning method that translates the Voice of the Customer into measurable design and engineering characteristics using the House of Quality matrix. Developed by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno, it is used across product development, manufacturing, healthcare and service design.

Quality Function Deployment is a customer-driven planning method that translates the Voice of the Customer into measurable design and engineering characteristics using the House of Quality matrix. Developed by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno, it is used across product development, manufacturing, healthcare and service design.

Yes. With a documented shortage of engineering and manufacturing skills and a national push for local value addition, professionals who can run Voice of the Customer and House of Quality workshops are in demand across Namibia's manufacturing, food processing and service sectors, and the method applies from day one.

The course suits product designers and design engineers, quality engineers, product managers, marketing and R&D staff, and Six Sigma practitioners. Anyone who needs to translate customer requirements into product or service specifications will benefit.

No. There are no prerequisites. The course introduces QFD and the House of Quality from first principles. Familiarity with product development or quality management is helpful but not required.

The programme runs for one day, around eight hours, covering QFD foundations, the Voice of the Customer, full House of Quality construction, matrix interpretation, the four-phase cascade, and QFD in Six Sigma and services, with hands-on exercises throughout.

    General

What is Quality Function Deployment and how does it work?

Quality Function Deployment is a customer-driven planning method that translates the Voice of the Customer into measurable design and engineering characteristics using the House of Quality matrix. Developed by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno, it is used across product development, manufacturing, healthcare and service design.

Is the QFD training worth it for professionals in Namibia?

Yes. With a documented shortage of engineering and manufacturing skills and a national push for local value addition, professionals who can run Voice of the Customer and House of Quality workshops are in demand across Namibia's manufacturing, food processing and service sectors, and the method applies from day one.

Who should attend the Quality Function Deployment course?

The course suits product designers and design engineers, quality engineers, product managers, marketing and R&D staff, and Six Sigma practitioners. Anyone who needs to translate customer requirements into product or service specifications will benefit.

Do I need prior experience to join?

No. There are no prerequisites. The course introduces QFD and the House of Quality from first principles. Familiarity with product development or quality management is helpful but not required.

How long is the QFD training?

The programme runs for one day, around eight hours, covering QFD foundations, the Voice of the Customer, full House of Quality construction, matrix interpretation, the four-phase cascade, and QFD in Six Sigma and services, with hands-on exercises throughout.

    Pricing

How much does the QFD training cost in Namibia?

Fees vary by delivery mode (live online, classroom or corporate onsite) and group size. Pricing for Namibia is available on request. Contact a learning advisor for a current quote tailored to your format and team size.

What is included in the course fee?

Your enrolment includes instructor-led training across all QFD modules, structured courseware, House of Quality templates, worked case studies, hands-on exercises, learner support and a course completion record from Invensis Learning.

Do you offer group or corporate pricing?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with tailored schedules and volume-based pricing for product, engineering and quality teams. Request a group quote and we will build a package around your needs.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major cards and bank transfers, and offer flexible options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the arrangement that suits you or your organisation.

Is corporate training more cost-effective for teams?

Usually, yes. Training a cross-functional team together lowers the per-person cost and lets everyone build one House of Quality for a real product, creating immediate value. Ask about corporate and group pricing for your team.

    Assessment

How is learning assessed on the course?

There is no formal assessment. Learning is reinforced through hands-on House of Quality construction exercises, Kano classification activities and team discussion, so you practise the method on realistic scenarios throughout the day.

What do I receive after completing the training?

You receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning. The training builds practical QFD and House of Quality skills you can apply immediately to product development, service design and improvement projects.

Will I be able to apply QFD straight away?

Yes. Because the course is hands-on, you leave able to run a Voice of the Customer session, build and interpret a House of Quality, and cascade requirements through the four QFD phases on your own products or services.

    Is this a recognised methodology?

Yes. QFD is a globally recognised, established method used in automotive, aerospace, food processing, healthcare, software and services. The House of Quality is a standard planning tool within Design for Six Sigma and quality planning worldwide.

How does QFD support Six Sigma work?

QFD is a core tool in Design for Six Sigma (the DMADV Measure phase) and in the DMAIC Define phase, where it translates the Voice of the Customer into critical-to-quality requirements and project scope. The course shows exactly how to apply it.

    Course Content

What topics are covered in the QFD training?

The programme covers QFD foundations, Voice of the Customer capture and the Kano model, full House of Quality construction, matrix interpretation, the four-phase QFD cascade (product planning, parts deployment, process planning, production planning), and QFD in Six Sigma and services.

What is the House of Quality?

The House of Quality is the central QFD planning matrix. It links customer requirements to measurable engineering characteristics, rates the strength of each relationship, maps design conflicts in the correlation roof, benchmarks competitors and sets engineering targets, all anchored to customer priorities.

Does the course cover services as well as products?

Yes. While QFD began in manufacturing, the course covers applications in services such as healthcare, financial services and IT, and in software, so you can translate customer requirements into delivery standards in any sector.

    What hands-on practice is included?

You structure the Voice of the Customer with an affinity diagram, classify needs with the Kano model, build a full House of Quality from a realistic scenario, calculate column importance, and identify design hot spots and conflicts.

    What materials are provided?

You receive structured courseware, House of Quality templates, worked case studies and practice exercises, giving you reusable tools to run QFD in your own organisation after the training.

    Enrollment

How do I enrol in the QFD course?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website. Choose your preferred format, complete your booking, and you will receive access to schedules, courseware and learning resources. Talk to a learning advisor if you need help choosing.

What training formats are available in Namibia?

We offer online (live virtual) instructor-led training, classroom sessions and customised corporate onsite training for teams, so you can take the Quality Function Deployment course online or in person. Choose the format that fits your schedule and location in Namibia.

    When can I start?

New sessions run regularly across live virtual and corporate formats. View upcoming schedules or ask a learning advisor about the next available dates that suit you or your team.

Can you deliver the training onsite for our team?

Yes. We deliver onsite and live virtual corporate sessions for teams across Namibia, tailored to your products and sector. Request a group quote and we will arrange delivery around your team's availability.
