What Is Design for Six Sigma and Why It Matters in NamibiaUntitledA Skill That Builds Quality In

Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) is a proactive quality methodology for designing new products, services and processes to reach Six Sigma quality levels from the very first concept, rather than fixing defects after they appear. Design for Six Sigma Training in Namibia gives you the structured DMADV roadmap, Define, Measure, Analyse, Design and Verify, and the core tools that build quality in from the start. Over one focused day you learn how to capture the voice of the customer, translate it into measurable critical-to-quality requirements, and use tools such as Quality Function Deployment, the Pugh concept selection matrix, Design FMEA and robust design to make sound design decisions early. Because it is the design counterpart to DMAIC, DFSS is ideal for professionals who already improve existing processes and now want to design new ones correctly the first time. The training suits product and design engineers, R&D professionals, new product development managers, quality engineers and Six Sigma practitioners working across Namibia's manufacturing, mining, food processing and industrial sectors. As the country pushes local beneficiation and value-added manufacturing under Vision 2030, professionals who can design quality in are increasingly valued. Build the skill with Invensis Learning and start applying it on live projects straight away.

Industry Challenges Driving Demand for DFSS Skills in Namibia

    The Local Beneficiation Push

Namibia's move to process minerals locally, including its 2025 ban on exporting unprocessed lithium, means new plants and processes must be designed correctly from the outset, exactly what DFSS enables.

DFSS builds design-quality and process-design skills

    Manufacturing Growth Under Vision 2030

With the country targeting a rise in processed mineral exports to 57% by 2030, manufacturers need engineers who can design value-added products to meet requirements the first time.

DFSS supports first-time-right new product design

    Strict Export Quality Standards

Meat, fish and food processors selling into demanding export markets must meet exacting standards, which DFSS supports by flowing customer and regulatory needs into measurable design requirements.

DFSS translates requirements into measurable CTQs

    Scarce Process and Quality Talent

Namibia lacks enough processing engineers, metallurgists and quality-control specialists for its industrialisation drive, so professionals with structured design-quality skills are highly sought after.

DFSS skills make engineers stand out

    New Industries Built from Scratch

Green hydrogen and energy projects are designing entirely new facilities, where DFSS tools such as robust design and Design FMEA help prevent costly failures before they are built in.

DFSS de-risks brand-new plant and product design

High Cost of Late Design Fixes

A lean manufacturing base cannot easily absorb scrap, rework and warranty costs, making the DFSS principle of designing quality in from the start a direct commercial advantage.

DFSS cuts rework by designing quality in early

Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) Training is a one-day, non-certification skills programme that teaches you to design new products, services and processes to Six Sigma quality levels from the start. It covers the DMADV roadmap and core tools such as VOC, QFD, the Pugh matrix, Design FMEA and robust design.

    General

What is Design for Six Sigma Training?

Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) Training is a one-day, non-certification skills programme that teaches you to design new products, services and processes to Six Sigma quality levels from the start. It covers the DMADV roadmap and core tools such as VOC, QFD, the Pugh matrix, Design FMEA and robust design.

Is the DFSS training worth it for my career in Namibia?

Yes. As Namibia pushes local beneficiation and value-added manufacturing under Vision 2030, employers increasingly need engineers who can design quality in from the start. DFSS skills help you stand out for scarce design, process and quality roles across mining, food processing and manufacturing.

How is DFSS different from DMAIC?

DMAIC improves existing processes that are underperforming, while DFSS designs new products, services and processes correctly from the outset using the DMADV roadmap. They are complementary: many organisations use DMAIC to fix what exists and DFSS to design what is new.

    Who should attend this training?

The training suits product and design engineers, R&D professionals, new product development managers, quality and manufacturing engineers, and Six Sigma Green Belt and Black Belt practitioners. It is ideal for anyone responsible for designing new products, services or processes.

Do I need prior Six Sigma knowledge to join?

No. There are no formal prerequisites. Familiarity with basic Six Sigma concepts such as CTQ and variation is helpful, but the programme introduces the DMADV methodology and all DFSS tools from first principles.

    Pricing

How much does the DFSS training cost in Namibia?

Pricing varies by delivery mode, group size and format, so the fee is available on request. Contact a learning advisor for a quote tailored to individual or corporate training in Namibia.

What is included in the training fee?

The fee typically includes instructor-led delivery, structured courseware, hands-on tool exercises, learning resources and a course completion record from Invensis Learning. Request a quote to confirm exactly what is included in your chosen format.

Do you offer group or corporate rates?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with schedules and content tailored to your team, plus volume-based pricing. Ask about corporate rates for design, engineering or quality teams in Namibia.

Is the training available online as well as in person?

Yes. The programme is delivered as online live virtual instructor-led training, in-person classroom sessions, and onsite corporate delivery. You can choose the format that best fits your schedule and team.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major cards and bank transfers, and can discuss instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to arrange the option that suits you.

    Assessment

Is there an exam for this training?

No. Design for Six Sigma Training is a non-certification course with no examination. Learning is reinforced through hands-on tool exercises, case study examples and team discussion during the one-day programme.

Do I receive a certificate after the training?

You receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning after completing the programme. No formal certification or external credential is awarded, as this is a practical skills course rather than an accredited qualification.

    How is my learning assessed?

There is no formal assessment. Instead, you apply DMADV tools such as VOC to CTQ flow-down, QFD, the Pugh matrix and Design FMEA to realistic scenarios throughout the day, so you build practical capability you can use at work.

Will I be able to apply DFSS straight after the course?

Yes. The methodology and tools are immediately applicable to new product, service and process design projects. You can lead or contribute to DMADV projects, run VOC workshops, build QFD matrices and conduct Design FMEAs right away.

What methodology does the training follow?

The training follows DMADV (Define, Measure, Analyse, Design, Verify), the most widely used DFSS roadmap. It also introduces alternative frameworks such as IDOV so you understand how organisations adapt DFSS to their own product development process.

    Course Content

What topics does the DFSS course cover?

The course covers DFSS foundations and the DMADV roadmap, the Define phase (VOC and Kano), the Measure phase (CTQ flow-down and QFD), the Analyse phase (concept selection and Design FMEA), the Design phase (robust design and DFMA) and the Verify phase (design verification, validation and transfer).

    How long is the training?

The programme runs for one day (8 hours) and covers all six DMADV phases with concept explanations, real-world case examples and hands-on tool exercises throughout.

    Are there hands-on exercises?

Yes. You practise VOC to CTQ flow-down, build a QFD House of Quality, apply a Pugh concept selection matrix and complete a Design FMEA worksheet, all on realistic product or process design scenarios.

    Can beginners take this course?

Yes. The course introduces DFSS from first principles, so beginners can follow it. Some awareness of Six Sigma basics is helpful but not required, and the trainer supports you through each tool.

What tools will I learn to use?

You will learn the voice of the customer and Kano model, CTQ flow-down, Quality Function Deployment, concept generation and the Pugh matrix, Design FMEA, the P-diagram and robust design, and design verification and validation methods.
