What Is Quality Function Deployment and Why It MattersUntitledA Customer-Driven Design Method

Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is a structured, customer-driven method that translates the Voice of the Customer into specific engineering and process characteristics across product and service development. This Quality Function Deployment training in Malaysia gives product and quality professionals practical command of the House of Quality, the planning matrix at the heart of QFD. Developed in Japan by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno and first applied at the Kobe Shipyard in 1972, QFD is a standard tool in manufacturing, automotive, electronics, healthcare and software design. Over one intensive day you learn to capture customer requirements, turn them into measurable engineering targets, resolve design conflicts, and cascade decisions through the four QFD phases: product planning, parts deployment, process planning and production planning. This is a non-certification skills course with no examination. You finish with a course completion record from Invensis Learning and QFD skills you can apply the next day.

Why Malaysian Manufacturers Need QFD Skills Now

Competing on Design, Not Just Cost

As Malaysia climbs the E&E value chain under NIMP 2030, manufacturers must win on design quality. QFD turns customer needs into design targets that differentiate products, not just cut price.

    QFD builds customer-driven design skills

Voice of the Customer Gets Lost

Requirements captured by sales and marketing often never reach engineering intact. QFD and the House of Quality give teams a traceable way to carry customer needs into specifications.

    QFD makes requirements traceable

    Costly Late-Stage Design Changes

Design conflicts found during prototyping or production are expensive. The QFD correlation roof surfaces trade-offs early, reducing rework, warranty costs and time to market.

    QFD surfaces trade-offs early

    General

What is Quality Function Deployment (QFD)?

Quality Function Deployment is a structured, customer-driven method that translates the Voice of the Customer into specific engineering and process characteristics. Its central tool is the House of Quality, a planning matrix that links what customers want to how a product or service will deliver it.

Is this QFD training worth it?

Yes. QFD is a practical, cross-industry skill that helps you design around real customer needs, cut rework and speed up development. In Malaysia's electronics, automotive and medical device sectors, teams who apply QFD well clearly stand out.

Who should attend the QFD training in Malaysia?

The course suits product designers, design and quality engineers, product managers, R&D and NPD professionals, and Six Sigma Green and Black Belt practitioners. Anyone who translates customer requirements into product or service specifications will benefit.

No. The training has no formal prerequisites and introduces QFD and the House of Quality from first principles. Familiarity with product development or quality management is helpful but not required.

Does QFD apply to services and software, not just manufacturing?

Yes. Although QFD began in manufacturing, the House of Quality applies wherever customer needs must become design specifications, including healthcare, financial services, IT and software design.

    Pricing

How much does the QFD training cost in Malaysia?

Course fees vary by delivery mode, group size and schedule, so pricing is available on request. Contact a learning advisor for a current quote for public or corporate QFD training in Malaysia.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee typically includes instructor-led training across all six QFD modules, hands-on House of Quality exercises, learning materials and templates, learner support, and a course completion record from Invensis Learning. Request a quote for full details.

Do you offer group or corporate discounts?

Yes. Corporate group training is available with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for product and quality teams. Contact us for a tailored quote for your organisation.

Are there any exam or awarding-body fees?

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, with instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Assessment

Is there an exam for the QFD training?

No. Quality Function Deployment training is a non-certification course with no examination. Learning is reinforced through hands-on House of Quality exercises, case studies and team discussion during the one-day programme.

Do I receive a certificate after the course?

You receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning that recognises the practical QFD skills you have built. There is no external awarding body for QFD, so no formal credential is issued.

    How is my learning assessed?

There is no formal assessment. You apply your learning directly by building and interpreting a House of Quality during in-class exercises, so you leave able to use QFD on real projects straight away.

What will I be able to do after the training?

You will be able to capture and structure the Voice of the Customer, build a full House of Quality, calculate design priorities, resolve trade-offs, and cascade QFD through parts, process and production planning.

Is QFD linked to Six Sigma?

Yes. QFD is a core tool in Design for Six Sigma, in the DMADV Measure phase, and in the DMAIC Define phase, where it translates customer needs into critical-to-quality requirements. The course covers both.

    Course Content

What topics does the QFD course cover?

The one-day programme covers six modules: QFD foundations and business case, Voice of the Customer capture, building the House of Quality, interpreting the matrix, cascading QFD through four phases, and QFD in DFSS, DMAIC and services.

What is the House of Quality?

The House of Quality is the central QFD planning matrix. Its six rooms link customer requirements to measurable engineering characteristics, a relationship matrix, a correlation roof, competitive benchmarking and engineering targets.

What are the four phases of QFD?

The four QFD phases are product planning (the House of Quality), parts deployment, process planning and production planning. Together they trace every production control back to a specific customer requirement.

    Are there hands-on exercises?

Yes. You build and interpret a House of Quality from a realistic product or service scenario, structure customer needs with an affinity diagram, apply the Kano model, and identify design hot spots and conflicts.

How long is the QFD training?

The course runs for one day (8 hours), and can also be delivered as two extended half-day sessions. It covers all six modules with concept explanations, case studies and hands-on House of Quality exercises.
