What if I do not pass the PfMP exam on the first attempt?

You are permitted up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility window from the date of application approval. Reexamination fees apply to the second and third attempts. Our training and practice resources are built to help you prepare thoroughly before you sit the exam.

How many questions are on the PfMP exam and how long is it?

The PfMP exam has 170 questions and a four-hour (240-minute) allotted time. It is closed book, using single-answer and multiple-answer multiple-choice questions delivered via Pearson VUE online proctoring or a test centre.

What are the PfMP exam domains and their weights?

The exam covers five performance domains from the PfMP Examination Content Outline: Strategic Alignment (25%), Governance (20%), Portfolio Performance (25%), Portfolio Risk Management (14%) and Communications Management (16%).

Which standard is the PfMP exam based on?

The exam is based on the PfMP Examination Content Outline and aligned to The Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition (PMI). The 4th edition frames the five performance domains and the tasks and enablers the exam evaluates.

What is the passing score, and what is the panel review?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score that is not published as a fixed number; results are reported by domain performance. In addition to the exam, all candidates complete a subject-matter-expert panel review of their documented experience, and both must be passed.

Course Content

What will I learn in the PfMP training?

You will learn to align portfolios to strategy, govern and prioritise components, manage portfolio performance and value, handle portfolio-level risk, and communicate with executive stakeholders, across the five PfMP performance domains, plus application and exam strategy.

What are the eligibility requirements for the PfMP?

PMI offers three sets. All require 96 months (about 8 years) of business experience within the last 15 years, plus portfolio management experience: 84 months with a secondary diploma, 48 months with a bachelor's degree, or 36 months with a GAC-accredited degree. Anyone can join the training.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions mapped to the PfMP Examination Content Outline, full-length mock exams, an exam simulator and topic-wise quizzes to help you identify weak areas and build exam readiness.

Is the courseware aligned with the latest PfMP syllabus?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to PMI's Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition, and the current PfMP Examination Content Outline, covering all five performance domains.

Do I need PMP or PgMP before taking the PfMP?

No. Neither PMP nor PgMP is a formal prerequisite for PfMP. The PfMP is based on general business experience and portfolio management experience, though many senior portfolio leaders do hold one or both credentials.
