What Is Value Stream Mapping Training in Mauritius?UntitledA Practical Lean Skill for Leaner Operations

Value Stream Mapping (VSM) is a Lean management technique for creating a single visual picture of every step, both value-adding and non-value-adding, needed to bring a product or service from concept to customer. This one-day, instructor-led programme teaches professionals across Mauritius to draw current-state and future-state value stream maps, expose waste and bottlenecks, and build a practical plan to improve end-to-end flow. Rooted in the Toyota Production System and popularised by Mike Rother and John Shook in Learning to See, VSM is one of the most trusted tools in Lean and Six Sigma improvement. Using the standard VSM symbol set, you practise mapping real operational scenarios so the skill transfers straight to your workplace, whether that is a textile factory, a food processing line, a logistics hub or a back-office service. The course suits operations and manufacturing managers, quality and process engineers, Lean practitioners and supply chain professionals. There is no examination; you build a hands-on capability and receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning. Start your value stream mapping journey and learn to see waste the way Lean leaders do.

What Is Driving Demand for Value Stream Mapping in Mauritius

    Low Manufacturing Productivity

Mauritius has flagged its manufacturing sector as low in productivity for over a decade. Value stream mapping gives operations teams a direct way to find and remove the waste that limits output.

VSM exposes the waste holding output back

    Cost Pressure on Textile Exports

Textile and apparel exports reached MUR 20 billion, but Mauritian factories compete with lower-cost Asian producers. Mapping the value stream reveals the waste that erodes already tight margins.

    VSM protects tight manufacturing margins

    Rising Labour Costs

As wages rise, doing more with the same resources becomes essential. VSM helps teams cut lead time and non-value-adding steps without adding headcount or capital.

VSM helps you do more without adding cost

    Continuous Improvement Skills Gap

Employers report skills shortages and thin continuous improvement capability. Training teams in value stream mapping builds the in-house talent to run improvement without outside consultants.

    VSM builds in-house improvement talent

    Complex Logistics and Freeport Flows

As Mauritius grows its logistics and Freeport role, materials and information move across many handoffs. VSM makes those flows visible so bottlenecks and delays can be designed out.

    VSM makes multi-step flows visible

    Moving up the Value Chain

The EDB industrial plan pushes factories toward higher-value production. Leaner, well-mapped value streams are the foundation for taking on more sophisticated, quality-critical work.

    Today

Efficiency gains are hard to prove to management

    After VSM Training

You quantify lead time, value-added ratio and inventory before and after

    You learn Value Stream Mapping

    Before

Waste stays hidden inside day-to-day operations

    Now you have

A single visual map that makes every step and delay obvious

    Before

    Only theory-level familiarity with Lean

    Now you have

A practical, in-demand Lean tool you can apply immediately

    Before

    Improvement depends on outside consultants

    Now you have

The skill to facilitate your own mapping workshops in-house

    Before

Your value stays limited to your current role

    Now you have

A transferable skill valued across manufacturing, logistics and services

"In operations, the gap between busy and productive is waste you cannot see. Value stream mapping makes it visible, and visible problems get fixed."

The training suits operations and manufacturing managers, quality and process engineers, Lean and continuous improvement practitioners, and supply chain professionals. It is relevant across textiles, food and beverage, agribusiness, logistics, healthcare and services.

Is Value Stream Mapping worth it for my career?

Yes. VSM is a practical, in-demand Lean skill valued by Mauritian manufacturers and service operations under pressure to improve efficiency. It strengthens your profile for operations, quality and continuous improvement roles and applies immediately at work.

Do I need prior Lean experience to take this course?

No. There are no formal prerequisites. Some familiarity with Lean ideas such as waste and flow is helpful, but the course introduces all the concepts you need in the context of mapping, so beginners and experienced practitioners both benefit.

What standard is the training based on?

The training is grounded in Lean and the Toyota Production System, using the standard VSM approach popularised by Mike Rother and John Shook in Learning to See. You practise with the standard value stream mapping symbol set used by improvement teams worldwide.

How long is the Value Stream Mapping course?

The course is delivered as a focused one-day, eight-hour programme covering Lean foundations, VSM symbols, current-state mapping, analysis, future-state design and implementation planning, with hands-on mapping exercises throughout.

    Pricing

How much does Value Stream Mapping training cost in Mauritius?

Fees vary by delivery format, such as live online, classroom or corporate onsite, and by group size. Pricing is available on request. Contact a learning advisor for a quote tailored to individual or team training.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee typically includes instructor-led training across all VSM modules, hands-on mapping exercises, course materials, and a course completion record from Invensis Learning. Request a quote to see what is included in your chosen format.

Do you offer group or corporate pricing?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for operations, quality and supply chain teams. Ask about corporate and group pricing for your organisation in Mauritius.

Are there any additional costs, such as an exam fee?

No. This is a non-certification skills course with no examination, so there is no separate exam fee. You pay only the training fee for your chosen format.

How do I pay and are instalment options available?

We accept major cards and bank transfers, and instalment options are available on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Assessment

Is there an exam for Value Stream Mapping training?

No. This is a non-certification course with no examination. Learning is reinforced through hands-on mapping exercises and group discussion during the programme rather than a formal test.

What do I receive after completing the training?

You receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning. No formal certification is awarded by an external body, because value stream mapping is a Lean technique rather than a certified credential; the value is the practical skill you gain.

How is my learning assessed during the course?

There is no formal assessment. Throughout the day you build both current-state and future-state maps for realistic scenarios, and the trainer gives feedback so you can practise and refine your mapping skills.

Will I be able to run a VSM workshop after the course?

Yes. By the end you can select a product family, walk the process, draw a current-state map, identify waste, design a future-state map, and build an implementation plan, which is everything needed to facilitate a mapping workshop at work.

Does this course lead to a Lean Six Sigma certification?

No, this course does not award a certification, but it builds a core Lean tool used in Lean Six Sigma. It is a strong foundation for further learning such as Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt, Green Belt or Kaizen training.

    Course Content

What topics does the Value Stream Mapping course cover?

The course covers Lean foundations and the eight wastes, the standard VSM symbols, creating and analysing a current-state map, calculating takt time and finding the bottleneck, designing a future-state map, and building an implementation plan.

Are there hands-on exercises in the training?

Yes. Hands-on mapping runs throughout the day. You create both a current-state and a future-state value stream map for a realistic operational scenario, so the skill transfers directly to your workplace.

What are the eight wastes covered in the course?

The course covers the eight wastes of Lean, remembered as DOWNTIME: Defects, Overproduction, Waiting, Non-utilised talent, Transportation, Inventory, Motion and Extra processing. You learn to spot each one on a value stream map.

Can the course be applied outside manufacturing?

Yes. While VSM began in manufacturing, it applies equally to healthcare pathways, logistics, financial services and back-office processes. The mapping method is the same wherever materials or information flow through steps.

    What materials will I receive?

You receive structured course materials covering the full VSM method, including the symbol set, worked examples and mapping templates you can reuse for your own value streams after the training.

    What training formats are available?

Can the course be delivered onsite for my team in Mauritius?
