What Is Driving PMI-CP Demand in Jamaica

    Tourism Construction Boom

Jamaica's 10x10x10 Tourism Vision targets ten million visitors and is driving a wave of hotel and resort builds, demanding project leaders who can deliver complex schemes to schedule and quality.

PMI-CP builds scope and delivery discipline

    Road and Transport Megaprojects

The SPARK road programme and the Montego Bay Perimeter Road require portfolio-grade planning, contract administration and cross-party coordination, the exact competencies PMI-CP develops.

PMI-CP builds contract and governance skill

    Skilled Talent Shortage

A shortage of skilled construction workers has slowed major projects and led firms to import labour, making certified, standards-based project managers rare and highly valued.

PMI-CP makes certified leaders stand out

    Contract and Claims Complexity

Large multi-party contracts bring variations, delay claims and disputes. With Contracts Management at 50 per cent of the exam, PMI-CP equips leaders to administer contracts and resolve claims.

    PMI-CP builds contracts management mastery

    Housing and Water Investment

Growing public investment in housing, water and sewage adds regulatory approvals and community stakeholders, raising demand for managers who can engage stakeholders and control risk.

PMI-CP builds stakeholder and risk skill

    Climate-Resilient Delivery

Jamaica's push for climate-resilient infrastructure links funding to strategy and standards, so employers need project leaders fluent in scope, governance and value-driven delivery.

    General

What is the PMI Construction Professional (PMI-CP)?

PMI-CP is PMI's specialist certification for construction project management. It validates your ability to deliver construction projects across four domains: Contracts Management (50 per cent), Stakeholder Engagement (30 per cent), Strategy and Scope Management (15 per cent) and Project Governance (5 per cent), aligned to the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline.

Who should take PMI-CP training in Jamaica?

It is designed for construction project managers, site managers, project engineers, quantity surveyors, owner's representatives and consultants working on building, civil or infrastructure projects. With tourism, road and housing investment rising in Jamaica, it suits professionals ready to move into senior construction delivery roles.

Is PMI-CP recognised in Jamaica and internationally?

Yes. As a PMI credential, PMI-CP carries global recognition across more than 200 countries. It is valued by Jamaican contractors, developers and public agencies, and it travels well in international construction markets that seek globally recognised project management credentials.

Is PMI-CP worth it for my construction career?

For most construction professionals, yes. PMI-CP maps to in-demand roles such as construction project manager, contracts manager and project director, where Jamaican pay bands rise well above entry level. It signals specialist, standards-based capability that employers increasingly ask for.

    Is PMP required before PMI-CP?

No. PMP is not a prerequisite for PMI-CP. You can pursue PMI-CP directly based on your construction experience and education. The two credentials are complementary, with PMP covering general project management and PMI-CP validating construction-specific expertise.

    Pricing

How much does PMI-CP training cost in Jamaica?

Training fees vary by format, such as live online, classroom or corporate delivery, and are available on request. The PMI exam fee is billed separately by PMI in USD under regional pricing. Contact a learning advisor for a tailored quote for Jamaica.

What is included in the course fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware, practice questions and mock exams, guidance on the four prerequisite modules, PMI-CP application support, learner support and a course completion certificate with contact hours. Request a quote to confirm inclusions.

Is the exam fee included in the training price?

No. PMI bills the PMI-CP exam fee separately in USD under regional pricing, and members pay less than non-members. PMI individual membership also reduces the exam and renewal costs. Confirm current fees on the PMI website before applying.

    Exam

What is the format of the PMI-CP exam?

The PMI-CP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination with 120 questions, based on the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline and the current PMBOK Guide. It is delivered online proctored via Pearson VUE OnVUE or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

How long is the exam and how many questions are there?

The exam has 120 questions and an allotted time of 230 minutes (3 hours 50 minutes). Questions are distributed across the four domains, with Contracts Management the largest at 50 per cent.

What are the eligibility requirements for PMI-CP?

You must complete four mandatory self-paced prerequisite modules and meet one experience set: Set A (secondary diploma plus 60 months construction PM experience), Set B (bachelor's degree plus 36 months) or Set C (GAC-accredited degree plus 24 months), all within the past 10 years, plus 35 contact hours of PM education.

What is the passing score and how many attempts do I get?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score, so there is no fixed published cut score. Results report domain-level performance. You get up to three attempts within the one-year eligibility window from application approval.

What if I do not pass the exam the first time?

You can retake the exam, with up to three attempts allowed inside the one-year eligibility period. Re-examination fees apply to later attempts. Our practice questions, mock exams and trainer support are built to help you prepare thoroughly before your first sitting.

    Course Content

What topics are covered in PMI-CP training?

The training covers the four exam domains: Contracts Management (50 per cent), Stakeholder Engagement (30 per cent), Strategy and Scope Management (15 per cent) and Project Governance (5 per cent), plus application guidance and exam strategy, all aligned to the PMI-CP ECO.

Can a beginner take this course or do I need experience?

Anyone can attend the training. To earn the credential, PMI requires construction project management experience under one of three eligibility sets plus the four prerequisite modules. The course helps newer professionals build knowledge while experienced candidates prepare for the exam.

How many training hours does the programme provide?

The instructor-led programme provides 32 contact hours of training. PMI requires 35 contact hours of project management education for eligibility, so please confirm with us whether supplementary self-study is credited toward the 35-hour requirement.

Is the courseware aligned to the current standard?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the official PMI-CP Examination Content Outline and the current PMBOK Guide, so what you learn reflects the domains, tasks and enablers assessed in the exam.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions and full-length mock exams mapped to the 120-question format and the four domains, so you can find weak areas and build readiness before exam day.

    Enrollment

How do I enrol in the PMI-CP course?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website. Choose your preferred format, complete payment, and you will receive access to schedules, courseware and learning resources. A learning advisor can help you pick the right batch.

What training formats are available in Jamaica?

We offer live virtual (online) instructor-led training, classroom sessions and customised corporate group training. This lets professionals across Jamaica choose the format that fits their schedule and project commitments.

    How soon can I start?

New batches run regularly across live online and corporate formats. Enrol online or talk to a learning advisor to see upcoming schedules and reserve your place.

How do I complete the mandatory prerequisite modules?

All candidates must finish four self-paced PMI-CP modules before applying: Project Communications, Interface Management, Scope and Change Order Management, and Contract and Risk Management. Each is a 6 to 10 hour commitment and awards 14 PDUs. We guide you on completing them alongside your training.

Can I reschedule or transfer my enrollment?

Yes. Flexi options let you reschedule or transfer to another batch, and selected plans let you attend the training twice. Contact our support team to arrange this before your batch begins.
